They get dirty over time, not jumps. In other words, they don't stay clean if you don't jump. Derek

I'm not. Derek

Do you clean your cutaway cables every 30 days? Derek

petition for exemption to the 120 day reserve repack cycle denied
Hooknswoop replied to jsaxton's topic in Gear and Rigging
Everywhere I have been it is the same, the majority do not take good care of their gear. Looking at customer's rigs and the rigs on people's backs, it is the same. Some people take very good care, most don't. Let's find out in a poll: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_view_flat;post=1873728;poll=results Derek -
petition for exemption to the 120 day reserve repack cycle denied

Just the U.S. side. Maybe an inspection every 120-days without un-packing it, unless something was found to warrent it, and a 180-day or annual re-pack/inspection? Derek -

petition for exemption to the 120 day reserve repack cycle denied
Hooknswoop replied to jsaxton's topic in Gear and Rigging
Skydivers in the U.S. generally do not take good care of their gear. The 120-re-pack cycle gets a rigger's hands on it before something goes too long usually. Extending the re-pack cycle would mean more problems would go longer without gettting fixed. If people took better care of their gear, I would be all for extending the re-pack cycle to 180+ days. I had a though that if all the componets were brand new, reserve, AAD, and container, then it would be a 180-day re-pack cycle until a rigger dropped it to 120-days. That idea is full of problems though. Derek -
Have you ever stuck a 9 volt battery on your tongue?
Hooknswoop replied to skycat's topic in The Bonfire
A lot of people haven't. For example, you don't need one for those little rat dogs women carry around in their purses. Our pup, Sherpa, is a high energy, short attention span Belgian. Without an electronic remote collar, we would not be able to take him anywhere off-leash. Calling "Sherpa" is not going to stop him from chasing a rabbitt, just not going to happen. It doesn't hurt him, it just gets his attention. I've had it up to 80 on my neck, which is much more sensative than a dog's neck. It is a humane and effective training tool. Derek -

No worries. Someone else thought I was the TI because of that post. Thought I should clarify

I wasn't the TM on that skydive...........I just quoted from the discussion below the download button on skydivemovies.com. Derek
-
Simple. I would like to skydive, I have never stopped wanting to skydive. Maybe if things change, I will be able to jump again. Maybe I will make a little difference (not likely) to that end. I guess it is because I still want to jump and I am trying to change the things that caused me to stop. As for the current topic, It doesn't give a good impression of the DZ when the Instructors are doing stuff like this. It may have been an isolated incident, whatever. I don't think the DZ is being or should be hung out to dry. I do think some Instructors excercised some very poor judgement and shouldn't be Instructors anymore. Derek
-
I would agree, but not only does that not work at DZ's, it just gets you in trouble. Derek
-
If he was trying to trash the DZ, wouldn't he name the DZ? Derek
-
Ya, that would work.. What happens in reality is the person is ostracized from the DZ if not banned entirely. DZ's are little kingdoms and the DZO is the king. They don't answer to anyone. Derek
-
Sure, but we aren't talking about a newbie. Sounds like this DZ has been around for at least a little while and you can;t convince me they don't know they are violating the FAR's and BSR's willfully. Then to sign the pledge that says they aren't breaking them.....I have no sympathy and USPA lets them do it. You don't let newbies get away with that crap either. Derek
-
Let me fix the anaolgy for you: Same jumper, knows he should wave off, track, etc, but doesn't care. Doesn't want to learn how to do that stuff and tells everyone he does know how to track and wave off and does on every jump. In fact he will sign something (pledge) to that effect. I'm not helping someone that doesn't want help and lies about what they do and know and I'm not going to try and tell people that they are OK and just need some guidence. Derek
-
And they tend to fire higher when the jumper is rotated head up by the deploying main canopy, 1000+ft. Bottom line is Airtec knew the Cypres could fire under an open canopy when they printed the Cypres2 manual, but stated that it would not fire under canopy, regardless of what you did. The 78-mph activation speed isn't helpful information since there isn't a reliable, easy, and accurate way to measure that descent rate. He didn't have the information he needed to make an informed choice even though the infoirmatiomn existed. Derek
-
Clearly USPA doesn't do anything except say they are breaking the rules and if you don't like it, you do something. Thanks a lot. This is one of the big reasons I quit skydiving. USPA is a joke. Derek
-
It doesn't say "is available", it says "personally observes" and "direct supervision". That means they have to watch the parachute being packed. The FAA changed the FAR specifically to address this. How can a rigger "personally observe" if they aren't standing there watching it being packed? As for riggers debating the FAR's, LOL! Get rigger's opinons on who may alter a main. The only opinion that matters is the FAA's. Why does the USPA allow DZ's that violate the FAR's/BSR's to continue to GM DZ's? What about the pledge? What exactly does "self-regulate" mean? Do whatever you want and police yourself? Anarchy? Derek
-
i think he is saying there is no manned radio, no bull-horn, no smoke, no paddles, nothing. I.E. no manned communications. Derek
-
The FAA controls/issues rigger's ratings in the U.S. Senior Rigger = re-pack reserves and minor repairs Master Rigger = re-pack reserves and major repairs. You have to be able to rig and pack reserves to be a Senior Rigger in thge U.S. Derek
