Both my brother and I have Turkey week birthdays. On the one hand it's nice because it means we often spend our birthdays with family, on the other hand if/when we had parties, they often ended up being well away from our actual birthdays because of the holidays. But, y'know, firstworldproblems. That firstworldproblems hashtag on good stuff cracks me up! Always be kinder than you feel.

OMG. Will she kick your ass if she sees this?? Always be kinder than you feel.

11/22/63 - I wasn't born until 1968, so like I said previously, I was just a sparkle in my Daddy's eye (they were trying to get pregnant for a 7 years before I came along). 01/28/86 - I was a senior in high school. All 3 of us kids were home sick with the flu that day. We were in the family room laying around watching television when it came on the news. I remember I went to my room to watch the news and cried in there so my brothers wouldn't see me and bust my balls. My Dad was working the desk at the police station and kept calling home to check on us. I remember he was upset as well. 9/11/2001 - I walked across the police station parking lot, looking up at the sky and told myself this was a perfect, happy to be alive day, the weather was amazing and the sky was a gorgeous, deep shade of blue. I was working from a police department in their Emergency Operations Management Room where we had a computers set up for training the state computer systems. I was due to have foot surgery the next day and had to get some pre-op bloodwork so I worked close to home. The police chief came in and changed the television channel to the news after hearing about the first tower being hit. He said something along the line of it being a little Cessna or something. I remember telling him no way, it had to be a bigger airliner or something due to the hole in the tower. As we were sitting there watching, in frame comes the 2nd plane and it hits the south tower. It was surreal. Later you could smell the smoke on the wind that come down the NJ coast from NYC. A few hours later my cell phone rang and it was the hospital cancelling my surgery for the next day because they said they were on standby waiting for survivors. As we know know, they never came. Always be kinder than you feel.

Would you ever consider having children with a friend?
LuckyMcSwervy replied to npgraphicdesign's topic in The Bonfire
Certainly not going to get hammered by me. I assumed that wanting a child and experiencing the pregnancy process went hand in hand with wanting to give a child an amazing life, helping them grew into a good person and strengthening the bonds of a happy, loving family. Now that I think about it, I may have been wrong when I hear about women who have children for the government welfare money. Also, there are people who become foster parents just for the money, too. Sad. Always be kinder than you feel. -
Well yeah, but it's cool that the grownups can play nice enough to give the kids a chance to hang with all their sibs. +1 My parents always got along like champs even after their divorce. Made for some really nice birthdays, holidays, parties, etc. and some good memories!!

Nice! Funny, I just thought of you and your FB posts to come when I heard the weatherman talking about the weather for that game!! Enjoy!! Always be kinder than you feel.

I will absolutely concur. I recall arriving at Mt. Bachelor at about 730 a.m. on January 1, 2000. There were a few inches of fresh snow (never been on undisturbed snow before or since at a slope) and there may have been a total of fifty people there. Within an hour maybe 100 more arrived. It was awesome. As far as Thanksgiving, Dawnmarie, our kids and I are doing Thanksgiving at my ex-wife's house with my former in-laws and my first two kids. I know, I know... Glutton for punishment, eh? The skiing thing sounds amazing and the dinner thing. I'll pray for you. LOL. Seriously, Jersey Girl can handle anything! Always be kinder than you feel.

That sounds just perfect. Family, birthday, movies, only heating dinner and no shopping on Black Friday!! You're lucky!! Well, I can't arrange a Turkey-week birthday for everyone, and family time may not work out for all, but the rest is possible for anyone. Especially the "no shopping" thing.

Oh man! That's beautiful!! Sounds like the rain that's coming may swell the river as the website mentions. 40s for hiking sounds great. Take pictures, please! I think it's sweet you guys all got together beforehand since you wouldn't be in town. Hope your SIL picked up on that one!! Always be kinder than you feel.

Yes, they are!! We just got some breaking weather news here that the Poconos (STOP LAUGHING!!) are getting snow this week with the N'oreaster heading our way. I'm hitting the slopes alone if I have to. Won't be the first time, won't be the last time!! Are you a First Trax person? I am! You guys are getting some snow now, right??

If You Could Be Invisible For 24 Hours What Would You Do?

I was just thinking there's some cell phone and Internet connections of a couple of people I'd like to disable for a few days so they'll stop bugging me with idiotic BS. Was last night the full moon? Always be kinder than you feel. -

That's good you have friends to help soften the terrible blow with some laughter!! I used to kiss logbooks and leave a big pucker lip marks (after I put on some bright lipstick) on some people's logbooks after a few celebration or other special jumps. Hope that makes them smile on day.

So, what are you all doing? This is my favorite holiday.

Exactly!! Especially at an uptight, prudish, conservative job!! Which DZ do you work at again?? I don't work at a DZ... Always be kinder than you feel.

I'm so sorry or your loss. I lost a younger brother to a heroin overdose November 3, 2002, while he was IN a rehab facility. I feel your pain about what drugs do to a person's life. Always be kinder than you feel.

We do focus the presents on the kids. My mom insists on still buying her kids presents too, even though we're all still in our 40's. The adults play "dirty santa" with a good gift and a white elephant gift. I have the prized greek statue of two naked guys in a compromising pose. So far, I've refused to put it back into rotation because everyone anticipates that it will be there this year. I'm going to hold on to it for a few years and catch them by surprise! That's fun!! Every year at work I've thought of putting a vibrator in the Cut Throat Pollyanna wrapped gift pile but I know I'd get blamed. Always be kinder than you feel.

+1 I tell the dive boat crew do NOT touch my scuba gear. I'll set up my own rig and switch it over myself. I hate when I turn around and they're already doing it because then I look like a dick stopping them but oh well. Just happened to me last week in Cozumel but I think there was a language barrier with that one. I tell people about my gear when we're doing the BWRAF drill. I have my dive computer on a retractable clip that crosses the front of my BCD from right to left and crosses my releases, integrated weights and a bright yellow octo. That's all you need to touch and that's for an emergency. If someone effed with my gas I'd be livid. Always be kinder than you feel.
