  1. Hmmm Some joke Al Franken Franken earlier this week: “I don’t know what’s going on in Donald Trump’s head or through his hair, but I condemn him for a lot of things he’s said.” He's still got it.

  3. The article may make some valid points about how one counts the number of deportations of Mexicans, but we are getting off topic here. The topic at hand is that the original poster's friend is from Portugal, not Mexico. I'm trying to help the original poster help his friend on a nonpartisan basis--not get into a partisan debate. My advice to the original poster is NOT to give up and NOT to assume that the friend will be put on the next plane back to Portugal. If the friend's most serious legal problems are the DUI and that he overstayed his visa, he ought to at least qualify to be released on bond while he fights deportation--assuming he has someone willing to post bond on his behalf. But the interaction between criminal and immigration law is a very tricky one and he may need a good lawyer--ideally one who understands both state criminal law in the state where the DUI occurred and federal immigration law. To be able to say for sure what the friend's prospects of release are, though, I think the lawyer will need a lot more details than have been posted here. Like I say--the article you post may well raise some valid questions about the official numbers, but because the focus of the article seems to be exclusively on the southern border--and that's not the friend's situation--I think we are veering too far away from the main topic here. You're friends best chance is talking to an immigration attorney. Just out of idol curiosity, I wonder if a "nolo contendere" plea makes any difference in a case like this?
  4. I think "open" primaries vary by state. Perhaps democrats could be organized enough to pull off an "operation chaos" like Limbaugh tried. But then again, what did Will Rodgers say about the Democrats being organized?
  5. The best hot dog in the world? The ones you get on street corners in Mexico. A simple hot dog wrapped in bacon and then grilled.
  6. I don't think your sentence works with the phrase "right mind" But A quick poll of who donated to Kerry from here might illuminate. Or wait til later on and see if anyone throws bad money at Trump once this season gets going.... In the grand scheme of things, any money thrown at Trump is, and always will be bad money. While he may lead the polls with 20% of Republicans, 70% of all voters say they would never vote for him, I think Pallin has a higher favorability rating. I bet if Sarah was running right now instead of Trump, she would be the current front runner. I think anyone who is perceived by the left as being absolute bat shit crazy, will always be assured of 20% from the far right. I think trump leads the polls for a while, at least until a large number of the other candidates throw in the towel... That could be a while. Lucky for Trump, there's 15 others in the same race diluting the poll numbers.
  7. As a democrat, I'm thrilled to watch the GOP clown show, they are so short sited. Remember when Bachman was leading in the poles? What I really want to know is how much of his own cash is Trump spending on this campaign. What person in their right mind would given money to a multi billionaire?
  8. I really enjoyed his speech this morning announcing his intention to seek the GOP nomination. What a stark contrast from the current field, it's unfortunate that he doesn't stand a chance. http://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2016-election/john-kasich-says-hes-running-president-n395396
  9. Wow. No wonder California is broke. It may not be as bad as you think. They can just up the gas prices. This will be good for their economy. With the sales tax in California at 09%, and over 12 billion gallons of gas used yearly by the state, I think the state is in no hurry to see prices come down.
  10. Take it easy on third graders... Third grade was the greatest 2 years of my life.
  11. Not defending Trump. But I am enjoying him saying fuck you to the loony left attackers. On that point I agree with him So Trump complains that McCain labeled his follows as "crazy". How does Trump respond? Acting crazy. The positive side to all this Donald idiocy? He makes the rest of the GOP look like serious candidates.
  12. There is no such thing as a carrier qualified naval aviator that is also a crappy pilot.
  13. I recently read this: https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/extreme-fear/201101/mind-traps-the-fatal-mistake-hanging-too-long
  14. Oil prices are not the problem. At this particular moment the world has a surplus of "cheap" oil. Six months ago the price of oil was about where it is now, $50, yet then I was paying $2.50 a gallon. Somewhere between entering the refinery and the pump it gets very shady.
  15. The price of gasoline is not directly related to the price of a barrel of oil. There is a relationship there, but it's not as linear as one would expect. A big portion of it also has to do with "what the market will bear." https://blog.gasbuddy.com/Crude_Chart.aspx
  16. I cannot understand how the price of oil has dropped by over 50% in the last 12 months, and yet the price of northern California gasoline is still almost $4.00 a gallon. I guess this means when oil goes back up to $100.00 a barrel, it's going to be $6.00 a gallon.
  17. While suicide among service members is a problem (depending on the source you use it's 1 per 18 hours up to 22 a day) I don't think access to guns have anything to do with it. Service members are all ready banned from having guns on base and the suicide rate has gone up in recent years. More guns does not equal more suicides. My guns have never tried to talk me into killing my self. However, being trained in the use of a fire arm and having one on you can give you a fighting chance in a time of need. Now if you were to suggest limiting firearms to people who were still active duty or separated with honorable discharge, then you might convince people that you know what you are talking about. Some reading for you. http://www.militarytimes.com/story/military/benefits/health-care/2015/04/01/suicide-troops-veterans-combat-study-says-no-link-between-combat-deployment-suicides/70771276/ Some more reading: http://www.stripes.com/news/experts-restricting-troops-access-to-firearms-is-necessary-to-reduce-rate-of-suicides-1.199216
  18. It was nice to see Bush Sr being released from the hospital today... Despite the fact that he's a total loser for being shot down by the Japenesse In WW2. The only thing that saved him from absolute disgrace was being lucky enough to be plucked from the Pacific by the right boat and avoiding capture.
  19. I think it's just a little bit easier for Iran, nimbyism isn't so much a problem.
  20. I'm fairly certain, if I can continue contributing to my 401K at my current level, pick up a few extra shifts a week, i can retire when I reach the age of 83.
  21. Maybe because even for a kid born in Calgary, it is a mouthful? (Cruz was born on December 22, 1970, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, where his parents, Eleanor Elizabeth Darragh Wilson and Rafael Bienvenido Cruz, were working in the oil business source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ted_Cruz#Early_life) And the fact that he was born out of the country, and if you would listen to the Tea party folks explain things, that would make Cruz ineligable to be POTUS. I also thought that Trump, back in 2012, had some top notch private dicks in Hawaii about to blow the whole Obama birth certificate scandal wide open... But I digress. I'm just wondering, why the right wing refers to no one, other than our current POTUS by their full name. What makes this man so different, I would submit that perhaps, just perhaps, there's a small amout of hatred based on his perceived lack of acting like a proper American.
  22. My guess is for the same reason the left wing media doesn't use it. I don't think it's the same reason. I think the right loves accentuating on Obama's middle name, just to remind everyone how really foreign and out of place he appears to be.
