. There are plenty of examles where God permits the killing of innocent children in the bible. In exodus he kills all first born as revenge for the Jews not being set free. The children of Jericho are also slaughtered. The 42 children who mocked Elisha were tore apart by 2 bears on command by God for teasing him about being bald. I think if children at an early age were taught some of these bible verses they might grow up with a different take on God. Then again I think children are taught to fear God and and his wrath. The idea that you can pick and choose the Psalms that Got agrees with is just a bit silly.

Why dont they have a youtube clip of the following psalm: Psalms 137:9 Blessed is the one who grabs your little children and smashes them against a rock. Nothing like good family reading from the "good book".

Gerin Oil by Richard Dawkins Gerin Oil (or Geriniol to give it its scientific name) is a powerful drug which acts directly on the central nervous system to produce a range of symptoms, often of an anti-social or self-damaging nature. It can permanently modify the child brain to produce adult disorders, including dangerous delusions which are hard to treat. The four doomed flights of September 11th 2001 were Gerin Oil trips: all nineteen of the hijackers were high on the drug at the time. Historically, Geriniolism was responsible for atrocities such as the Salem Witch Hunts and the massacres of Native South Americans by Conquistadores. Gerin Oil fuelled most of the wars of the European Middle Ages and, in more recent times, the carnage that attended the partitioning of the Indian subcontinent and of Ireland. Gerin Oil intoxication can drive previously sane individuals to run away from a normally fulfilled human life and retreat to closed communities of confirmed addicts. These communities are usually limited to one sex only, and they vigorously, often obsessively, forbid sexual activity. Indeed, a tendency towards agonized sexual prohibition emerges as a drably recurring theme amid all the colourful variations of Gerin Oil symptomatology. Gerin Oil does not seem to reduce the libido per se, but it frequently leads to a preoccupation with reducing the sexual pleasure of others. A current example is the prurience with which many habitual 'Oilers' condemn homosexuality. As with other drugs, refined Gerin Oil in low doses is largely harmless, and can serve as a lubricant on social occasions such as marriages, funerals, and state ceremonies. Experts differ over whether such social tripping, though harmless in itself, is a risk factor for upgrading to harder and more addictive forms of the drug. Medium doses of Gerin Oil, though not in themselves dangerous, can distort perceptions of reality. Beliefs that have no basis in fact are immunized, by the drug's direct effects on the nervous system, against evidence from the real world. Oil-heads can be heard talking to thin air or muttering to themselves, apparently in the belief that private wishes so expressed will come true, even at the cost of other people's welfare and mild violation of the laws of physics. This autolocutory disorder is often accompanied by weird tics and hand gestures, manic stereotypies such as rhythmic head-nodding toward a wall, or Obsessive Compulsive Orientation Syndrome' (OCOS: facing towards the east five times a day). Gerin Oil in strong doses is hallucinogenic. Hardcore mainliners may hear voices in the head, or experience visual illusions which seem to the sufferers so real that they often succeed in persuading others of their reality. An individual who convincingly reports high-grade hallucinations may be venerated, and even followed as some kind of leader, by others who regard themselves as less fortunate. Such follower-pathology can long post-date the original leader's death, and may expand into bizarre psychedelia such as the cannibalistic fantasy of 'drinking the blood and eating the flesh' of the leader. Chronic abuse of Geriniol can lead to 'bad trips', in which the user suffers terrifying delusions, including fears of being tortured, not in the real world but in a postmortem fantasy world. Bad trips of this kind are bound up with a morbid punishment-lore which is as characteristic of this drug as the obsessive fear of sexuality already noted. The punishment-culture fostered by Gerin Oil ranges from 'smack' through 'lash' to getting 'stoned' (especially adulteresses and rape victims), and 'demanifestation' (amputation of one hand), up to the sinister fantasy of allo-punishment or 'cross-topping', the execution of one individual for the sins of others. You might think that such a potentially dangerous and addictive drug would head the list of proscribed intoxicants, with exemplary sentences handed out for pushing it. But no, it is readily obtainable anywhere in the world and you don't even need a prescription. Professional traffickers are numerous, and organized in hierarchical cartels, openly trading on street corners and in purpose-made buildings. Some of these cartels are adept at fleecing poor people desperate to feed their habit. 'Godfathers' occupy influential positions in high places, and they have the ear of Royalty, of Presidents and Prime Ministers. Governments don't just turn a blind eye to the trade, they grant it tax-exempt status. Worse, they subsidize schools founded with the specific intention of getting children hooked. I was prompted to write this article by the smiling face of a happy man in Bali. He was ecstatically greeting his death sentence for the brutal murder of large numbers of innocent holidaymakers whom he had never met, and against whom he bore no personal grudge. Some people in the court were shocked at his lack of remorse. Far from remorse, his response was one of obvious exhilaration. He punched the air, delirious with joy that he was to be 'martyred', to use the jargon of his group of abusers. Make no mistake about it, that beatific smile, looking forward with unalloyed pleasure to the firing squad, is the smile of a junkie. Here we have the archetypal mainliner, doped up with hard, unrefined, unadulterated, high-octane Gerin Oil. Whatever your view of the vengeance and deterrence theories of capital punishment, it should be obvious that this case is special. Martyrdom is a strange revenge against those who crave it, and, far from deterring, it always recruits more martyrs than it kills. The important point is that the problem would not arise in the first place if children were protected from getting hooked on a drug with such a bad prognosis for their adult minds.

From one of my other post: Jesus was a tyrant on many levels, but probably the worst of all of Jesus's ideas is the teaching of hell. He did not invent the concept of eternal punishment, but the promotion of the christian hell originated with Jesus. In the old testament, hell was just death or the grave. With Jesus, hell became a place of everlasting torment. In Mark9:43 Jesus said that "hell is th fire that never shall be quenched" In Matthew 13:41-42 Jesus gives us a graphic ( and almost gleeful) description of the place he created:"The son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity; and cast them into the furnace of fire; there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth". Hitler's gas ovens were horrendous andthe suffering unspeakable, but they did not burn forever. The murderd victims of the holocaust suffer no more, but the victims of Gods anger will scream forever and ever. I don't beleive in Jesus or God, so I qualify as one of those "things that offend" in the above verse. Anyone who thinks it is moral for someone like me, a person who has used kindness and reason to come to conclusions- to be eternally punished for my views hasn't the faintest concept of morality. Any religion or system of thought that contains such a threat of physcial violence is morally bankrupt. For this reason alone Jesus deserves to be denounced as a tyrant. And who could think he was wise? The teaching of Jesus includ these pearls of wisdom; don't make any plans for the future (Matthew 6:34) don't save any money (Matthew 6:19-20) don't become wealthy (Mark 10:21,25 ) sell everything you have and give it to the poor (Luke 12:33) don't work to obtain food such as meat, because it dosn't last forever ( John 6:27) don't have sexual urges (Matthew 5;28) marrying a divoriced woman is committing adultery ( Matthew 5:32) act in such a way that people will want to persecute you (Mtthew 5:11) let everyone know you are special and better than the rest (Matthew 5:13-14) hate your family (Luke 14:26) take money from those who have no savings and give it to the rich investors (Luke 19:23-26) if someone steals from you, don't try and get it back(Luke 6:30) if someone hits you, invite them to do it again (Matthew 5:39) if you lose a lawsuit, give more than the judgment ( Matthew 5:40) if someone forces you to walk a mile, walk two miles (Matthew 5:41) if anyone ask you for anything, give it to them without question (Matthew 5:420) if you do something wrong with your hand, cut it off, and if you do something wrong with your eye, pluck it out ( Matthew 5:29-30 said in a sexual context)

[ I would say that is a cop out about the 'holy spirit" One that is in the Holy spirit is one who is not using all,if any of their critical thinking skills. The NT is so filled with historical errors, contradictions, and just plain hogwash that if one has to be in another state of mind to accept this as fact is scary. People drive airplanes into buildings using this logic. To say Jesus was a good guy is just plain wrong, read the gospels for your selves. If you think Jesus provides a good moral compass you are heading in the wrong direction.

I wonder what position Jesus had on the poor? Did he not say that one should sell all of their possesions and give them to the poor?

Amazing, amazing, amazing, what comes out of the conservatives’ mouths just simply amazes me. We have conservatives that tell us that liberals have imbedded impoverishment upon the impoverished. That is amazing. Just because liberals are actually concerned about the poor and want to assist them in rising above their plight, does not make them the cause of poorness. Man, they’re just never going to get it. They vote blindly for a man that has his hands in the pockets of the rich and they blame poverty on Democrats, amazing. I never will understand the Republican philosophy. Yes it is true that Democrats do want to give a little of our wealth to the lower classes. That’s not a terrible thing. I distinctly remember Reagan back in the eighties (yes the father of our trickle down fiscal irresponsibility) holding up a newspaper with want ads displayed, telling the world that there are “plenty of jobs available in this country.” The classifieds that he displayed were full of fast food jobs, vacuum sales jobs, and cemetery plot sales. Those aren’t jobs that will pull the poor man up by his bootstraps and lead him into mainstream society. They’re not the jobs that will help the woman and her children buy a house and live like the rest of us. They are the jobs that keep the poor man down and promote unemployment and welfare. We are living in a country that is exporting jobs by the thousands every month and filling the classifieds up with nowhere jobs, but cursing the Democrats for giving a hairy hoot about poor people. That is amazing. Out of the mouth of conservatives comes the arrogance and ego-centered crap that they have dished out for two centuries in this country. Had it not been for the forward thinking of such men as Jefferson and Franklin, we would be living in a Calvanistic theocracy today bending to the will of every born-again Christian holding a public office (and there would be plenty of them).

The attacks for the most part were not launched from afghanistan rather the taliban provided refuge for Bin Laden. If we reaaly wanted go get to the root we would be going into the tribal area of Packistan, where we sill would not stand a chance., Afghanistan is a lost cause that is just going to swallow more US lives and money. We can never win a war like this employing the tatics we use now.. Look at how brutal the Russians were and they still got their asses kicked. Outside of a few left wingers in congress I think most of the Dems will support more troops.

Why do christians pick out the few verses about gays in the OT but ignore all the other verses about stoning adulterers and selling their daughters into slavery and such?
-
They should. He needs to grow a pair and stop giving into the right. Anyonre that thinks we can make a difference in Afghanistan is sadly mistaken.

my apologies

[ Made my day! While I oppose illegal imigration and am all in favor of a fence, the thought of land mines on the border is apalling. I am sure Jesus would be in favor of blowing up poor women and children.

Separation of Church and State. NONSENSE!
jclalor replied to ChangoLanzao's topic in Speakers Corner
Of course they are different, they were written 50 to 100 years after Jesus died and most of the apostles did not write anything. What is so hard about worshipping your God in your house, your church or private school. Let a muslim group want to put up a display in the town center and see how many christians go to bat for their freedom. Better yet, lets see how the christians like it if instead of a manger I Put up a display from psalms 137:9 that says"happy is he who dashes the heads of infants against rocks" -
I started jumping at Hollister while it was still under the old owner and the facilities consisted of a couple old trailers and a 206. How things have changed in 14 months: the PAC,no more trailers, several thousand feet of new packing area and tons of up-jumpers. I'm not sure about what all the legal drama with Mako and the previous owner is all about but Mako has done wonders with this place. When I went thru AFF 14 month ago their were very few up-jumpers, now this place is packed with them on the weekends and I have yet to meet anyone with anything negative to say about what Mako has done with the place. The million FT for a thousand bucks has to be one of the best bargains anywhere, (I do beleive this is the last weekend it is being offered) and while every load may not make it to 15k I have yet to have been on a non weather related load to 12.5k, 14k to 15k is the norm. Who ever wrote the previous negative review is someone with ulterior motives. The facts speek for themselves as Hollister is growing at a very rapid pace with very happy and content jumpers.

You are so right and you have the scripture to back it up. What this country needs to do is follow more of God's word. I was just reading the bible this morning and was astounded to see that we are not stoning rape vitims who do not cry out loud enough after being raped. Even though it is clearly stated in 1 Dueteronomy verses 22:22 thru 22:24. Clearly we fall way short of God as a nation by not being able tp stone a few women from time to time.

I do keep tract of incidents and I don't think of it as a video game. I don't think anyone else here does either. I was very happy with how the year was going and thought it could be a good year.

my point is before I had witnessed any fatalities I had very little percieved risk. Even reading the incidents on DZ gave me the feeling that shit only happens to other people but not to me. Sitting and talking to someone minutes before they die tends to make you realize that this shit could happen to any one at any time and it has made me a bit mose conservative.
