I have yet to see a clear and pull student burn in and I have been watching S/L op's for most of my life and throwing them out for most of my adult life, and besides that, it's not like we're still using sentinals AAD's.......... With todays AAD's no reason the baby them. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -

You totally got it right unlike some of the young ones who have not been around to see the advent of the other programs come online. I train a hell of a lot of FJC students who go S/L and 95% of those make more then one jump, while I don't have the numbers to post, I guess 40% will earn an A. We train a lot of college students who always talk about being broke as hell and they love S/L, for the cost of one AFF or TDM jump they can make 6 to 8 jumps depending on cost of lift and where in the program they are. Two weeks ago I trained a class of 9 S/L students and two LV 1 AFF's were in the same non method part of class. 6 out of the nine left with second jump tickets in hand and appt's to be back in two weeks. Last weekend one of the AFF students returned to make another jump. After thinking it over for a week she decided to go S/L method for the simple reason of cost per jump. She got a second review in the hanging harness and on AC emergencys & exits. She made 3 DRCP's and did a C&P all on Saturday, left with a real log book and had us transfer the jumps from the "sheet style" log to the new book. In other words we now have a new skydiver progressing faster then one expensive AFF jump at a time and more likely to earn her A and keep jumping then burning out in a couple jumps because of spending a weeks worth pay on one jump. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -

Do realtors like to sit open houses or do they like to be out showing?
stratostar replied to Twoply's topic in The Bonfire
You got it right and it keep's Mr & Mrs home owners thinking the agent is "working hard to market their property". Some people really do go to open houses, but 98% are tire kickers and not there to make an offer on that house. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -
So what soapbox are you going to stand on when people start going in on skyhooks? You think it can't happen? I say it can and it will happen, it's only a matter of time & time will tell. I'm not saying its's a bad device, just that it's not 100% cure all to keep people from tumble'n thru a deployment and thus bouncing. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Frickin Tandem Factories....
stratostar replied to mamajumps's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
And this is why Skydive The Farm is one of the best DZ in the USA. Your crew (Hans & Staff) go above and beyond to see to it all jumpers are welcome. I had a student on a road trip with some other jumpers, we stopped at a USPA GM DZ and with current ratings in hand and log books and current student, we were not allowed to get this student in the air, hell even the 101 st. AB guys offerd to take the student up, but were told no, so we wasted a whole day of great conditons. I called Hans up and told him the deal and that we would be stopping there the next day and asked if there would be any problem with getting the student in the air. Not only did Blake refuse to be paid for the jumps he JM'ed, Hans refused to charge us the full AFF rate and only charged lift tickets and rig rental. Because of that kindness it made up for the other dz, and this jumper who lives in ATL, now calls the farm home when she is not in school up north. I can't say enough good things about how well jumpers are treated at your dz, I just wish I was closer and could jump there every weekend. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -
Any other DZ's want copies of all tandem vids?
stratostar replied to sbhesq's topic in Photography and Video
Yep I got every tape I have ever shot in the last 20 years, all jump and non jumping footage in a catalog, I have had a number of people call up over the years asking for reedits, had one last year from 5 years ago. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -

stratostar replied to hackish's topic in Safety and Training
You only being part of the misinformation of the many who think this, I guess your only repeating what you've been told and not what you know as fact from your own use and or landing of such canopies. Maybe you could have the guts one day to try it out for yourself a see first hand, but like most I doubt you will. Oh and Hackish..........MK 2's suck and land like shit, better make sure your in the peas dude, if your going to hang that old shit out get you a MK 1 or Jumbo PC. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -

Unless you jump a round reserve, there is way less risk of a entanglement. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -
DUDE, WTF! I bet the idea of getting your rigging ticket is seeming a lot better now. You know it never should piss off any real rigger if you ask to see their ticket before leaving your gear. Sorry to see your getting screwed over. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Get your riggers ticket, problem solved, after you get your rig back or if you get your rig back. Yes I would show up to not only the dz but his home as well and get in his face till you get answers or your gear back, if the AAD was taken the dzo owes you a replacement or cash to replace it. Make sure you have he SSK info in hand, if need be call the cop's and file a theft report if you keep getting blown off and not get your gear back. Also go to the county court house and file a lien on his house for the value of your rig & AAD, you might also look into filing a lien on the DZ aircraft. That will keep um from closing up shop and leaving town. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Well I did make about 50 copies for the family of my baby's movies and I handed them out as a gift to family members. Now I spent money to make them and I made no money nor took any money for the videos. If the Johnny Cash Estate or publishers some how find my home movie about my baby boy and want to sue me because I used a Cash track, let um try it, I won't even hire a lawyer, I'll show up and tell the judge it's a home movie and I paid for the box set of Cash recordings, this is not for sale to the public and has not been sold. My guess is it would be thrown out even if i made a 100 copies for family & friends. Now the youtube thing, while I thing it sucks there is a high risk, this is the reason you can't see the four baby movies I have made full of copy righted music. I'm surprised to see so many videos on U-tube with copy righted music and video clips that are clearly not the domain of the uploader, dispite the warning about uploading such violations. I have been waiting for someone to get their tit in the ringer for doing it and I guess it's only a matter of time, same as DZ's who still are using commercial music in tandem-AFF videos. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Again if it was your works being taken without your permission or pay for it that you might feel different about this issue. Do I think Tom Petty really cares if his free falling songs is being used on a millon tandem videos, my guess is no, however his record company is a whole different story and I would venture to say they do care and would think nothing of suing the piss out of a DZ and video flyer. Have I done this in the past, sure we all did for many years, still don't make it right as far as the law sees it, NO! I don't do tandem videos any more, if I did I would use my licensed music. If I make a video for my own use and not for sale to public or upload to public, I will use any and all music I own on CD's I paid for (right or wrong under law), because I see it as I paid them for cd and my little home movie is not for sale, it's only or my personal enjoyment and maybe to be shown to friends in my home. I have a number of shorts I would love to share with the world via youtube or such, but I don't because I don't want the hassle of being one of those people who think just because everyone else is doing it, it must be ok. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

If you were trying hard to make the money to fuel your tour bus as todays price running you 1500 or so for a full tank, you might think other wise. Now if you were a freefall photographer, say like lazlo and some scumbags like skyride stoled your image and didn't pay you for them, you might think other wise when your hungry. Hey gotta go I'm dubbing some vids with Tony Orlando & Dawn & Marie/Donnie Osmond sound tracks. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Welcome to the world of skydiving and petty assholes who have to flex what little power they have or think they have. I just got kicked off a dropzone last week because of what I posted and said as a former constituent of my USPA regional director, because he didn't like the fact that I called him out in a public fourm for violating the very rules he was to be up holding. Moral of the story is there are a ton of enormous ego driven pricks in the sport that if they feel crossed by you they will try to bully you around like some school yard punk. Again welcome to skydiving, we're family here! you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Any realtors want to post my house up on MLS or Realtor.com?
stratostar replied to Twoply's topic in The Bonfire
That depends on the state your in and the local MLS rules. I have a FSBO client in the Dayton Ohio MLS who has their listing on the local MLS and realtor.com all part of the 899.00 they paid to forsalebyowner.com and a for sale by owner sing in the yard. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -
