I was going on memory, don't know why I was thinking that (it stood out in my mind) other then knowing fuel issue, but to say there was as you know, much talk about the "pissed off coke dealers" messing with the plane to get even for the so called missing coke or coke money etc. So that is most likely where that memory came from. Yes from what I understand the hard shell was on (based on reports) this would add a lot to getting out for sure, as would your rig being under your seat. Bungee Wallace, anyone remember his story? I only remember small parts, like a rig in the plane that was found near his body, both were 1/2 mile from AC impact??? (I think) If anyone reading don't get it, hire you a pilot willing to do dives & spins and do it twice, once with your rig off so you can try and get it on and make your way to the door & a second time with your rig on, & see how hard it is to do for yourself. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Getting out without the pilot's permission may improve your odds while at the same time screwing everyone else on the plane. it seems like most of the crashes were from low enough altitudes that there would be nothing you can do except ride it in and hope. what am i missing in terms of what i can do to "break the chain"*** It starts before you ever climb into an AC for jump op's, you should take a flying lesson and learn how to do a real pre-flight, so you know some of what to look out for in the AC maintaince. Also refuse to fly with those who don't hold the legal documents to do what they are doing or ride with and encourge hotdog pilots , don't support crooked DZO's and AC operators, learn how to spot them. IDK 2-3 hrs? I would have & I would sit next to the door if at all possible to improve my odds of getting out if we had to, but I don't know what others would do. Well if the pilot fly's into terrain, your screwed. As for time to get out, in the recent case we don't know yet, to early to know. To a point your missing my point of the post. There have been a number of them, in most cases the one who got out didn't jump out, they were thrown out by the centrifugal forces due to the spinning. Many new people posting here are living through their first or second large loss of jumpers with the crash in WA. Many of us older jumpers can think back to many lost AC's, with all these crashes there is always something to learn, sadly it is at the expense of the passangers in the AC and sometimes people on the ground the plane falls on. To many new/young jumpers are left in shock when an even like this happends and always ask the question " they had parachutes why/how didn't they get out?" There are many reasons as to why only some or none get out at all in the events of the past. These events of the past should be a big wake up call for a lot you, yet many of you seem to think your the exceptions to the laws of physics & gravity because you wear a parachute or have the mindset your just better then others. Yet all to offten we hear people make statements contrary to what we know as facts based on the past events. Or we still see people boarding the AC not ready to bail out in an event. There are many reasons as to why these AC's went down, from poor piloting, CG, lack of planing, fuel, weather, botched buzz jobs and a whole host of other "links in the chain" of events. It is never easy to know that a whole load of our friends died while wearing their parachutes and had enough altitude to make a safe bail out or they had parachutes in the AC but were not wearing them. Thanks, every now and again I get to hit the ball. Just telling it the way I see it, I have a very close immediate family member who has worked for the FED's & U.S. Army for the last 25 yrs. with in a strong aviation field & background (former jump pilot too 17 yrs) and I know those videos get around for a fact, after awhile, cuz they get sent to me. It might take sometime before the clips get sent to me from them, with a note that says WTF are these people stupid! There are a lot of DZO's & aircraft operators who allow staff & fun jumpers to film stupid human tricks and then the stupid skydivers allow incriminating clips to find there way to cyber space, so they can look cool, but funny thing is too many don't stop to think of the bigger picture before uploading. True many systems look like shit, even to skydivers, let alone to some office fresh FED. One thing that you & others may not have though of, is, today we see many videos getting posted to so many sites like youtube, skydiving movies, and DZ.com. I know we have a few jumping FAA peeps here, but if we (skydivers) think we're the only ones taking a look at the stupid stuff people post, like the video of the dude staggering out of a KA on a civilian HALO jump (I've seen it posted here at least twice) then we need to take more care in how we operate #1 and what "we" post for all to see #2. Videos of people allowing a person to stagger and fall down, flail around on the floor and then fall out some 30 to 45 seconds after trying to get to the door, after clearly showing signs of being hypoxic before they even tried to get to the door, is pretty fucked up, even more so that not one person on the load took action, other then yelling at the person to hurry up and get out. In a way I'm not surprised the FAA is taking this action, even if they are wrong. Jet-A will not explode unless it is in a fine mist form, so leaking Jet-A will not blow up, with a spark or hot item (it will burn as you know though) . Not really, cuz if your to stupid to try and stand up in a C-182 knowing you have a camera on top of your head, then you'll be to stupid to not bash the side of your head on the door on climbout. Now that you learned the hard way and it cost your old cheap ass money to fix your camera, you won't do that again, now will you......unless your stupid! At your age it would be best to keep the weight centered on your spine anyway, learn to use the tools you already have and stop wasting money getting additional equipment because you didn't spend the amount of time needed to learn to use what you have. Get the eye sight and use it, it's way better then a paper asshole on your goggles (ever notice all the pro's use them and not paper assholes), your goggles aren't always in the same place on your face, also if your using a protect the helmet will shift around on your head too and throw off your paper asshole. Site in your cameras on the ground with the sight, use a tv and a photo on the wall, so you can do it yourself and not depend on someone else's idea of "centered". Maybe if it's a nice rig..... The thing is we see all kinds of fancy new crap hit the market in order to woo todays fashion savy skydivers to buy the latest greatest bullshit, some of the new toys are great for the design (3-ring/skyhook come to mind) but with brake line stows, a .2 cent rubber band works just fine attached to the links, hard or soft as well as the velcro stow, if you have or build the right kind, so why try to reinvent the friken wheel? To sell more shit, look cool or brag'n rights about how you got the hot new XYZ risers and that's it. If your going to pack for pay & under supervision of my riggers ticket, then your going to earn the money by doing the whole job start to finish! When I pack my own canopy part of the pack job would be doing the stowing of the brakes, uncollapsing the slider, and resetting the PC as well as flake'n, folding and baggin and line stows and bag placement and closing the container and folding and placing the the PC in the BOC. There for if I hire a packer to do the job and pay them money to do it, I expect them to do the whole job or offer a nice discount per pack job, like 3 bucks!
