I could never see the need to spend that kind of cash for a fancy sight when the orange one works real nice and besides that after a while you use it less and less as your eye gets trained and then only really use it for tight work once you learn where your "centered spot" is. This money better spent on lenses and such, IMHO. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Well yea, but I knew you already knew that, don't get me wrong here, we on the same page in regards to skyscam and those who deal with them. I find myself between picking the lesser of two evils in order to jump now, the same as many other jumpers across the USA. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Yep! I hate to say it but SWC started to take the tickets again after stopping for a long time due to the scam, BUT (according the the dzo) @ the Reno 2007 DZO's meeting when they saw how many big name DZO's and the local comp stand up/raise hands that they were taking skyscam tickets, the DZO said they couldn't believe it, then on top of that a new DZ opened up and has undercut every dz in the region for the price of a TDM's & AFF and fun jumper lift tickets and even made attempts to get collage clubs & staff to jumpship. So when I asked about "how can you support jerks and crooks" this is the repy I got (above) and they see no reason to turn away the business sent to them. So as long you see places of the likes of:, Alabama Skydiving Center, Prattville Bay Area Skydiving, Byron Perris Valley Skydiving, Perris Skydive Elsinore, Lake Elsinore Adventure Center Skydiving Inc, Hollister Ca Skydive San Diego, San Diego, Skydive Taft, Taft, Skydive Greensburg, Greensburg Skydive Jacksonville, Jacksonville Florida Skydive center, Titusville Skydive Tampa Bay, Mulberry Florida Skydiving Center, Lake Wales Missouri River Valley Skydiving, Lexington Skydive Rolla, Rolla - Accepts Freefall Express Skydiving, Missouri Nixa Canton Air Sports, Alliance Skydive Toledo, Toledo Skydive Dallas, Whitewright, Skydive Spaceland, Rosharon Skydive Superior, Suprerior Skydive Midwest, Sturtavant Then I can't really blame a one 182 DZO taking them to try and keep the doors open, this dz used to run a twin otter, D-18 and two 182's all day long, then no one wanted to jump the beech and the Totter was light, so they sized down to a C-208 for a few years then downsized to a Porter, after the engine blew and the owner Eddows and partner fucked um for the last two years promising & promising an engine (blowing smoke up the DZO's ass for two years) there still sits the porter taking up hanger space, for the last two seasons it has been down to one 182 nothng but students and not a fun jumper in sight, but one or two loyal few who seem to want to spend all day to get a/one hop N pop between student/tandem loads out of a 182 to try to help keep the doors open after 38 years in the business. So I can't really blame this DZO for taking the skyscam tickets. I don't have to like it, but it's not my DZ or my company to run. In fact I have been not involved much this season at all, other then the boogie and a few AFF/SL FJC's to keep my ratings current, but I too am part of the mass exit. As long as the big dogs and competing local dz's take the tickets and the skyscam lowlifes keep inventing new ways to out market the local dz's you will see people hop on board the 1-800-get-fucked network and take the tickets, thinking it's better to have them walk in "my" door then XYZ DZ down the road or accross the state, and if they get video it will have our name and number. So in the long run, you can print the t-shirts and boycott the dz's listed if you want too, but dare I say, your pissing in the wind and a handful of jumpers or DZ.com posters won't change shit, the jokes on you! Last time I was in Perris (May & june 07) there were two USPA BOD's & 5 or 6 DZO's jumping and spending money there, you think they don't know Perris takes Skyscam tickets? Face it the sport has been sold out. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

I gained weight and it's a better wingloading for me and I'm older now and don't need to run so fast, I have injurys from repeted high speed impacts with solid objects. (earth, cement, wood, cars) But no bad major broken type injurys from jumping in the past and I want to keep it that way. Also having some disk issues from repeted body abuse and age'n. Sucks getting old, but somebodys got to do it. Starting with a upsize in one of my reserves, it long over due, that means I have to upsize a container too. Mains I'm ok with for now, but see an upsize down the road. 170's to 190's you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Not now, now that you told Ryan your plan, he'll buy it up just to keep you from it. The smarter way would have been to buy it and build it then tell us about it. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Canon ZR850 vs Sony DCR-HC38 for Skydiving?
stratostar replied to brettski74's topic in Photography and Video
Because that's not what I'm saying! What I'm saying is EVERY Canon, JVC, Panoshit, I have seen people just like you who were told to NOT get those brands for skydiving and didn't head the advice, found out those brands are crap and won't hold up, there fine if you want to film grandma's B-day party or make a home porno tape and shit like that, but they SUCK ASS for skydiving, period! Then you didn't search enough or read through enough posts then, because there are ton's of posts talking about the TRV's, PC's, HC's as well as the HDV's. Had you really done your homework, you wouldn't be asking those questions! It sould be clear to you by now or had you done your homework, you not going to get that kind of info here, no one uses that brand, we all use Sony. So as I said, if you really want to "out grow it" and spend more money down the road, then go buy the ZR850 slap it on your head and try it out. If you want to be smart and save money in the long run and have years of use out of your investment, then GO BUY A SONY! Even a used TRV 520, 70, 80 90 etc. top mounted will last for a long time and can found for a few hundred on ebay, if you must have a side mount the PC's and HC's are the way to go, yes you will spend more for those. The bottom line in skydiving videography and still camera work is, don't be a tight ass, buy the right tools for the job, good glass & cameras, you get what you pay for! you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -
It's still out Don just have to know where to look or sometimes people you have never met open their dz home to you even when they can't be there. So don't take for granted your REAL friends in the sport and enjoy what you have got, yes you meet dickheads and con artist who try to rip off folks, but for the most part, what you talk about is still out there. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Canon ZR850 vs Sony DCR-HC38 for Skydiving?
stratostar replied to brettski74's topic in Photography and Video
Look dude, if you want to be a cheap ass then go ahead and buy the 300 dollar camera with a MFG-WAR. and when it don't hold up to the abuse and enviroments of skydiving and you have to go buy a new camera, don't come crying here about it! If you really want to know why sony is the pick of 99% of skydiving videographers and why they hold their value, 1. do a search first!, 2. go buy one and use it and found out why for yourself. I mean all the people in the many post on here about sonys have a damn good reason why they say that, also open this month parachutist mag if you have one to page 44. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -
That was MAYBE part of the plan, but first there is business that MUST be attended too there first. So I was wanting to know who to say hello to while there visiting. You know we love the farm and had a blast there Hans, and anytime we can stop there it's high on the list places to visit, thanks for the invite. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

You would be correct. But I know at least one DZO who has stooped to taking the skyscam tickets in order to keep treading water in the current economic times and other dz's in the area offering super low prices, so this one justifies dealing with skyscam to keep the doors open. No matter how you slice it, I think it is fubar and hope to see B&C doing time, sadly just like the "girls gone wild" dude they will be able to run their other shell company from behind bars and keep on ripping off the fools who call them. If more real DZO's wouldn't be such tight asses with marketing dollars and knew how to market in the first place at an affordable rate, then these guys wouldn't have been able to waltz in like they did and fuck up all the local markets. Then we have people bitchen about the likes of Fayards taking skyscam tickets (if they really do???), yet some of those who cry the loudest about skyscam being crooks, are the same people who would hire CSS AC for their events and boogies, so in turn you are only helping to support & keep in business those who support and keep in business skyscam! It's all about the almighty dollar, get a clue, DZO's are not your friend (even though you all think they are) and could care less what the fuck you think about how they run their businesses. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

It's a can't beat um, join um thing. Why let the scumbbags & scumbbags who work for them, get the cash flow by sending it down the road a few hundered miles, in these tight economic times DZO's need to get all the cash flow they can get, gotta pay for the toys the up jumpers want. I see both side to the issue, however the dz I train at still has SOS in use, it has been a reliable system in the ten years I have put out students with it, NOT one student has bounced because of it. I'm not posting to debate what system is better. But I still train as follows. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Where does the word boogie come from?
stratostar replied to Marios's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
To add to that bit o history, Garth was home again 2004 and was still jumping and seeing old friends again. He has also donated his 1974 red and black jumbo PC to the vintage collection. -

Stunts; pissing on our sport to make money.
stratostar replied to tdog's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Most non jumping public 90% just think your a retard dumbass and stupid for doing it (jumping) with a chute let alone without a chute and having one handed to you. Stunts like this do very little to improve the image of the sport, in fact it helps to feed the idea that people who jumpout of an aircraft are stupid death wishing morons who deserve to die when the chute don't open & the only reason a lot of people would tune in to a live TV show, would be to hope to see you go splat and then they would be disapointed if you don't. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -
Because people can pull the handle only far enough to cutaway, then panic and not pull the rest of the way to deploy the reserve, so there for a RSL is installed. If you really feel you need an RSL on your rig the missing ring is an easy fix and can be done cheap by a rigger. Some rigs like early sweethogs didn't have a shackel type RSL, they used a different type of attachment to the riser. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo
