  1. When traveling with your rig do you check it or take it carry on?
  2. To preface I'm old enough to jump and am licensed. However, after reading 2 posts recently, one about someone who is 16 wanting to learn here in the states, and a 15 year old over in the U.K that got licensed, a question came to mind. Can someone who is under the age of 18 who holds a license jump at a USPA member dropzone?
  3. I never had a hard landing but I did have problems with flaring too high through level 10. Are you looking out at a 45 or straight down? On those first ~10 I was looking straight down but once I started looking out at a 45 it made all the difference in the world. Since then I've stood a majority of my landings and I don't usually flare high anymore but when I do I just stay in the 2 position until I'm low enough to go to 3.
  4. Question for you. I was talking to my friend today who is going through union classes and had OSHA training this week. And I was talking to him about if a steel worker could wear a BASE rig instead of a fall protection harness. I mean if you fall your good if you just wanna get down quick at the end of the day your good there too. Plus it'd just plain kick ass. Any insight?
  5. The part that freaked me out the most was the initial air blast after the door was opened. Thats when I had my 'oh, shit.' moment. But after that it was great. I started AFP the next day. You'll probably freak out a little bit too if you see experienced people leave the aircraft (assuming you jump somewhere with a large aircraft). I remember being on a load (well after I graduated AFP) where we had a 4 way do a tube exit and the tandems just freaked out when they saw that exit.
  6. A chick that likes to party, skydive, and puts out. Thinking... thinking... yes, thats most girls on the DZ.
  7. The lesson here is what? Thats right, not to vote.
  8. Under Armour is basically the same. That's why I only wear it under my jumpsuit or other clothes.
  9. Why was I never informed there was skysurfing in the x-games? Granted I would have been 13 when it ended but still.
  10. He's right. If you bring her around Skydive Chicago after her 17th birthday shes fair game. I'm just messing around, but seriously I wish I could have started at that age. Congratulations to both of you.
  11. First, do it. Everyone in here makes good points but nothing that can't be avoided by doing things properly. If your shirt comes up over your handles, you're wearing it wrong. My first and only cutaway so far was in shorts and a t-shirt. I did have it tucked in and it did come out but I have never had get high enough to cover handles. As far as sliding it in goes, yeah it can mess you up. Don't slide in. With all that said, never, ever do anything you are not comfortable with. BTW, I'm assuming you are talking about doing this on solos either belly or free. I wouldn't recommend it if you are doing RW because then people have nothing to grab onto. I also bought a black suit (live in IL which can still be a bitch in the summer) but I have a bunch of Under Armour from my high school football days. That stuff makes a world of difference. Pick up a short sleeve heat gear shirt and heat gear compression shorts. Don't wear anything over them except for the jumpsuit otherwise you kinda defeat the purpose. It makes things much more bearable.
  12. If you are willing to pay a fee so you don't have to do the work, check out this place: http://www.legalzoom.com/non-profits/non-profit-corporation-overview.html I know they are legit. Almost used them for something but never did so can't tell you much more about them.
  13. So true. Once on gear check while going through AFP, meaning we weren't packing for ourselves yet, I caught the RSL routed through the large bottom ring. Caught it, fixed it, jumped it. Everything went fine. One of the instructors told me if I hadn't caught it I could have had a 3 ring malfunction in the air.
  14. Don't worry about the leaving the aircraft. You will probably hear this word from your instructor a lot, and that word is... relax. As far as worrying about money... you should. It'll get real expensive real fast. Especially when you have to rent gear while you are waiting for yours to arrive from the manufacturer (if you go the new route). Plus jumps and pack jobs. Lucky for me I have a college fund to fall back on. It's worth every single cent I ever spent on it though.
  15. What gave me away? I'm sure it couldn't be the name. I think I know who you are but you need to update your personal information so next time I see you I can pretend I remembered your name, even though I can't for the life of me. sorry.
  16. Make sure to get some coached jumps and be sure that you are tracking. Track perp to the jump run your solo's, never up or down the flight line. Of course anything bigger, do what makes the most sense, normally 180 from the center of the formation. Get in the habit of that now. You can slow down while tracking too if your doing it right. Promise...
  17. I'm not saying you guys are old and have bad bones, I'm just saying I don't think I saw a single standing landing. No but seriously, congratulations to all of you. I got to see the video on the 18 way and it looked great. You guys are true skydivers and I hope I'm still jumping at that age. blues I guess you didn't see my landing, or LT's Probably not. I'll be honest I was kinda watching for all the sliding landings because it was funny to see people with 1500+ jumps sliding in on their butts. It was classic.
  18. Yeah ever since the incident I've been going to my belly at around 5000 and catching as much air as I can for a few seconds then back to belly so I'm not moving too slow at opening (3500ish).
  19. Thank you. Yeah, thats what I do. I impress the ladies. And if they are mods, all the better for me.
  20. crabs are endangered due to loss of habitat. LMFAO

  22. To echo someone elses post. No one. But your parents can still sue. You could be waivered out of the ass, and since you are not old enough to enter into a legal binding contract it all means nothing. You say you won't sue but you can't be sure your parents won't. Even if they promised you now, do you think they would keep that promise if you were to die or become a vegetable? Do sometime in the tunnel and just wait till you hit 18. 16 is what, sophomore year in high school? IMHO thats way to young to be making huge decisions like these. Hell when I look back on high school and being 16 I think of just how dumb I really was even though, at the time, I thought I was all mature and shit.
  23. yeah. but once i was down there wasnt really any pain. my ribs were actually fine. I had a fresh tattoo on my ribs but even that was relatively ok. the only "injury" i had was a strained calf due to a poor set up and crosswind landing. (tried to stand it up and run like 12 mph, actually worked too) all i had to do for that was take some ibuprofen and it was gone about an hour later.
