Weird skydive dreams?
skittles_of_SDC replied to Tuna-Salad's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
i've only had 2. they were both similar though. the first one was when I first started packing my own chute. i dont remember what i throw out at but i know it was about normal and my canopy snivels for a long fucking time, till about 50 ft from the ground and even though its fully open by that time i end up going in. the second one was similar. i throw out at about my normal altitude and the canopy comes out but it stays in a ball. it doesn't inflate, not even slowly. so i grab the risers and pull down and it starts to inflate a little bit at a time each time i tug down on the risers. it ends before i find out if i burn in or not. -
I was also told one time that you should leave your slider uncollapsed. Basically anything you can do to make noise.

they have a corn maze right by SDC. Luckily I haven't landed there... yet.

NO, wait to do the Blue bottle while in Colorado.... I wanna see you SQUIRM!!!! g You think that would do the trick, try Icy-Hot on the junk... LMAO. I was gonna say the same thing. I saw a guy on my hs football team do it a couple years back. he said it felt great... then about a min later he ran out of the locker room stuffed one of the hoses from the watering station down his pants and stood there for about 2 mins running cold water over his sack. Edit to add a link: This is what happens when you put icy hot on your sack.

I haven't seen anything that proves me right, but I also haven't seen anything that proves me wrong. Prove me wrong.

That's not really applicable here though. A $45 Protec will offer much better protection compared to a lot of the $200 skydiving 'hair holders'... As far as I'm concerned if you take a hard shot to the head from the ground or a tree or something of the sort it doesn't matter what type of helmet you're wearing you're pretty much screwed. If its just getting kicked in the head in freefall well then either type would probably protect you.

Fear sitting next to the door
skittles_of_SDC replied to chrismgtis's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Yes they are quicker but jumpers on their belly drift more than freefliers. Says who? Who made the decision for "YOU"? What BS is that? As per my experience, jumpers talk to each other. (High pull? How many jumps? Doing what? OK, you're behind me ..... etc.) so are you saying you determine exit order after you are in the aircraft rather than boarding in exit order? -
Fear sitting next to the door
skittles_of_SDC replied to chrismgtis's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Low(er) jump Nos. usually do open much higher, so will not jump at first. At least where I use to jump. Accordingly, a 100 #s jumper will not sit next to the door and exit before FF groups, large RW groups. I thought that was clear to everybody. Or: @ skittles_of_SDC: During jump run, do FF or RW groups at your DZ step over the guy with 100 jumps sitting next to/opening the door?? What is mysterious to me: Why is OP complaining? Is it a MUST for him to sit next to the door? How many times did he do it? If he's got that much fear, why not talking to his DZ folks to let him sit in the tail of plane? OK, if he's in a small Cessna with a tandem and an AFF guy ... that's different. I wouldn't say more experienced jumpers open MUCH lower. See my thread. You still don't seem to understand that people with 100 jumps are sometimes on those RW groups. Also when I was still at like 30 or 40 jumps I occasionally was first one out doing belly solos because the rest of the load was freefliers. and since I was first out I was the one sitting next to the door. I have no idea what you are talking about with people stepping over 100 jump numbers. IT DOES NOT MATTER HOW MANY JUMPS YOU HAVE. IF YOU ARE ONE OF THE FIRST ONE'S OUT YOU WILL BE SITTING BY THE DOOR. Your logic is very flawed in the way you are looking at the exit order. -
or you can lie to uncle sam, say you're in grad school, get loans and spend them on skydiving like you were talking about before.

well i just put up a poll. hopefully it will get enough responses to be representative. -
pull altitude for more advanced jumpers.
skittles_of_SDC replied to skittles_of_SDC's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
a different thread got me thinking about what more advanced jumpers pull at. We'll still include A and B license holders though. I know the pull will vary depending on many factors but on a normal routine everyday jump where do you pull? -

This actually presents an interesting question. How many people wait till their minimum pull altitude to pull? -
Fear sitting next to the door
skittles_of_SDC replied to chrismgtis's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'm still trying to understand your logic. Are you saying they should not be sitting next to the door simply because of their number of jumps or because they MAY be pulling higher with their number of jumps? The higher pulling is somewhat faulty thinking as well because, in the states, with an A license (25 jumps) you can pull at 3,000. I know some D license holders, some with PRO ratings, that wont go under 3. I'm not trying to be offensive or insulting. I'm really trying to understand your logic behind 'low jump numbers shouldn't be sitting by the door'. I'd really appreciate it if you would elaborate more or give more detail on your thinking on this view. -
Fear sitting next to the door
skittles_of_SDC replied to chrismgtis's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Largest groups, RW and FF, at first. After, single jumpers, lowest numbers beeing the last (pulling higher). AFF, tandems. the group portion is the same as my dz with the exception of the single. It goes ALL rw from biggest to smallest (solo belly) then ALL freefly from biggest to smallest (solo freefly). this is where your logic is faulty. you seem to be assuming that people with 100 or so jumps are not doing RW. Now he may not have been, idk, but still. Idk what they recommend as number of jumps before starting RW in Germany but here its basicly from graduation on. -
To go along with your train of thought on your wants changing, if you are going to do freefly you may want an open face helmet. You can use a full face helmet with freefly but most of the people I know who freefly aren't a fan of full face helmets. But that is just a personal choice on their part, its not like you cant use them for freeflying. as an aside, another reason its funny they cost so much is because a lot of them have stickers right on them saying 'this helmet serves no protective purpose'. then why the fuck did i buy it and do i continue to use it?

I was wondering that too. the conclusion i came to was putting on a flame retardant suit. due to the flaming that the poster was sure would ensue.

Fear sitting next to the door
skittles_of_SDC replied to chrismgtis's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
OK, in your well experienced eyes it's weird. It's not, buddy. RW in large groups, with about 100 jumps? Perhaps. Doing FF, exiting in large groups? Perhaps. If you do not know what I'm talking about (you're in same jump No. range like OP), ask your instructor. For what I know from jumping here and in several other countries, the low numbers are not sitting close to the door. But, as mentioned, that depends on the plane. In a small Cessna, he probably will be placed close to the door. Like I was with my poor 30+ jumps, compared to the other 3 jumpers which just left AFF jumps behind - yes, I opened the door as I was the most "experienced" one. OP complained about sitting next to the door. How many time, always ??? 4 people is considered a large group now? I'm routinely on loads where a 4 way is first out. Also idk how your dz does it but at my dz freeflyers, no matter how big the group, are always out after belly. I still don't see what jump numbers have to do with sitting next to the door. If you could elaborate a bit I would appreciate it. -

Fear sitting next to the door
skittles_of_SDC replied to chrismgtis's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
he probably does a lot of group belly. hence hes close to the door. what do jump numbers have to do with opening and sitting next to the door? thats a pretty weird (see: dumb) comment. -
if you have stairs in your home take 2 at a time everytime you walk up them. it wont be as quick as doing squats but it does tighten up the gluteus maximus.

skittles_of_SDC replied to skittles_of_SDC's topic in Speakers Corner
You are exactly the kind of person I was talking about. Always trying to get people to switch to your religion. Seriously it's fine that you wanna blow Jesus, but I don't wanna have to listen to your crap. Have a nice night. -
20 here, wish I would have started at 18. At my DZ they just graduated an 18 year old from AFP last week. Like everybody else said it gets easier. When I was going through AFP I was so scared and tense that i actually managed to fail level 2...twice. Now after 103 jumps im still anxious sometimes but not scared. I think being anxious on occasion is good though, it'll make you do your gear checks, keep you thinking about what you have to do on the jump and therefore improve your safety. I've spent a lot of my college money on skydiving. Good thing I'm going the community college route. you wouldnt be the first one to use a loan though. I've heard stories about people who have done that. Oh yeah and my parents don't know that I've been spending my college money.
