Here's what will happen: the people who believe this person are next on the victim list. People who behave this way are compulsive. They cannot help repeating the behavior because it seems normal to them. They never run out of "friends," but their friends are never the same from year to year. You did what you could do to help someone. Your goodness is not diminished by the bad acts of another. Hold that thought. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. You should've posted it 12 hours (or more) earlier. Happy Birthday, Squink.

It was your method, not your point, that I was making reference to when I said "shit-stirring." I think there's a big difference between that and trolling. Then you should have said that. And there's no point in lumping them in with Christians. Anyone can call himself whatever he wants, but there's nothing in their philosophy that comports with Christianity. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb

You and I disagree on the interpretation of the stripper's performance. But that is a very subjective thing, whereby each person can come up with their own idea of the symbolism, if any, that they think is taking place. I came up with one idea, because I think like a man, and men have "dirty" minds. I have a lot of experience being a man, and have been hanging out with them for many decades. This is the kind of thinking they do, in private. They won't tell the women they think like that, because they're too polite, but amongst other men, they make such comments. One of my ex-boyfriends explained to me that guys walk into a room and size each woman up thusly: "I'd do her." "I wouldn't do her." I've spent most of my life around men who spared me nothing, John. How many times do you suppose that stripper performs that act in a week, a month, a year? Do we think that all actors and actresses are living their roles? Do we realize that many people in the sex entertainment field are gay? Lisa, did you give that guy a hardon, you naughty girl? Your life experiences must have been pretty bizarre. I have no bad feelings, but I've lost all the respect I ever had for you, such as it was. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb

there are saner people in lunatic asylums Yeah, well, count me crazy, Ian, because I believe it too. I just don't happen to believe it has anything to do with the Judeo-Christian God. But as I mentioned earlier in the thread, I lived in Buckhannon for three years, and I made friends with the folk of the town, even though I was a student, and the town and the college didn't much mix. There's no doubt that they were mostly devout Christians, but they were good people, and they were kind to me. Making fun of them in a time of pain and suffering doesn't sit very well with me, and I wish you would put a lid on it. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Yeah, well, about him, I sure am. I love the guy to death, and if all good things don't come to him, someone's going to answer to me. I do things for people when I can, even if it means stretching myself a little, but I'd bend myself into a pretzel for him. If that sounds like hero worship, I guess it is. He's my hero. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb

I can't keep up when people redefine the English language to mean what they say it means, not what English-speaking people understand it to mean. "mean" does not mean "meant". It means what it means. You miswrote...whatever, but it is what you wrote, and now you're changing the meaning. No one can argue like that. And it's a bad reflection on you, not on those who don't understand you, because no one but you interpreted it the way you're now casting it. Good grief. Not funny, Ian. They're entitled to what they believe, as much as you are. As long as they're not in your face, you have no gripe. I know a minister who lived his faith. When his child ran out into traffic and was hit by a car, the first thing he said was "Praise the Lord." He believed that God would give him no more than he could handle, and that whatever happened, good or bad, was God's will and for a reason. All in all, in a choice between that and sneering at everything, I would choose those who thank God for everything, even if it doesn't happen to be my belief. I don't agree that it's okay to get in someone's face and preach at them. But that's not what you're describing. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. You have this remarkable inability to tell the difference between an apple and an orange, John. Just how far down her butt crack do you think that guy got with her pants still on? Can you ever admit that you went off half-cocked without giving something a little thought beforehand? Sheesh! rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Here's mine. Suds and I started to be friends in the usual way--a funny line, a PM. Over time, we would correspond sporadically, debate occasionally. Then came the thread wherein he did something that I find well nigh unforgivable, and I wrote him off. I'd decided well prior that it was the sort of thing I'd no longer tolerate from anyone because no matter how many times I've tried to explain it in the past, my listener has failed to understand. No more beating my head against a brick wall. I missed him. There's no doubt. But sometimes it's better to just stick with people you can trust to hear you, few though they may be. My mistake. I did end up explaining the problem in another way in another thread. It wasn't something that someone would easily relate to what had happened, but a day later, I got a PM from Suds that said, "You could've told me." I just...cried. I don't really care if someone agrees with me--and he and I never actually talked about that part of it--but I do care that they'll take the time to hear what I'm saying. It's all too rare in the world...but Suds...well, he heard it when it wasn't even directed at him, and he took the time to let me know. He's one of the smartest people I know, not to mention one of the most empathic and giving. I'm sometimes fearful that he's going to run dry or burn out because I'm not sure people realize just how much he gives. He's probably going to kill me if he ever sees this post, so don't tell him about it. Just know what a great human being he is, and try to appreciate what a gift he is to all who are lucky enough to know him. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from.
