It's really hard to tell whether the teacher or the school board is more representative of "Christianity" here. It's the school board who wanted to sing the Christmas carols and the school board who saw abortion and Satan worship in the opera. In other words, it sounds like the teacher's being persecuted for not being Christian enough. That was my take. It seemed to me that she was "guilty" of following the law (keeping religion out of the school by not adding carols to the Christmas program), but got nailed for offering some (religious) cultural education to her students. Faust is intended to be an object lesson, after all. Apparently, she's damned if she does and damned if she doesn't. I considered posting this in the "I am a Christian..." thread, because it speaks to windcatcher's original premise: that Christians are persecuted; but then I decided it deserved its own thread. I guess Christians are Christianity's own worst enemy. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb

Excerpt from The Rocky Mountain News: Tresa Waggoner, the Bennett School District music teacher put on paid leave for showing a video clip of the opera Faust, said Thursday that she's looking for a new job. Waggoner, placed on leave Jan. 30, said she called superintendent George Sauter on Thursday after a local newspaper reported that she would not be allowed to return to the classroom. She said Sauter said she'd remain on paid leave. Sauter confirmed that, but declined further comment. "I'm applying for other teaching positions in schools and colleges," said Waggoner, a vocalist with two Christian CDs. "Maybe I'll become a church music director." http://www.rockymountainnews.com/drmn/local/article/0,1299,DRMN_15_4529857,00.html If you read the rest of the article, however, it gets worse. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. That explains a few things. There's a bigger issue here than just a broken romance. If that were all it were, Melissa wouldn't have posted about it. No. The use of the word "fuck" is not prohibited. Maybe you should read the rules again. In the meantime, there's nothing like a fact to answer your argument: Forums: Search Results Your search for fuck returned 16132 results in 0.618s. I am grateful to all of you--support givers and wiseguys alike (because smart remarks are support of a sort, at least most of the time)--for the encouragement. Yes, there is a hole already dug on the side of the house, and it's looking good right now. Just kidding. I've gotten a lot done (not packing, but other stuff--and the little gecko has saved me $722/year on my car insurance , so I've been walking around for two days doing free advertising for GEICO ), and I'm feeling pretty good right now. The next question is: after I make it back to New Jersey, what do I do? Do I stay there? Do I move elsewhere? Do I keep doing the work in which I have expertise or do I find something new and different? This is something of a crisis, but it's a good crisis. I just don't know which direction to pick. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb

If your husband doesn't want to go, and you don't mind, there's no problem. She's your friend, not his. And putting pressure on you to force your husband to do something he doesn't want to do (especially when your concern is for his comfort) isn't very friendly. It would be a different matter if you were hellbent on making your husband go, but if you're comfortable with his absence, then it's fine for him to stay home. Etiquette dictates that husbands and wives who attend functions together only spend time together in the coming and going, not at the function. The social obligation is to mingle, not to remain joined at the hip. And your additional duties as bridesmaid will preclude you from spending much time with him anyway. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb

I bought my policy with GEICO today. The final cost for 6 months was $100 less than the quote they originally gave me, and I am going to save $722/year by switching from AIG. I still can't figure out how that happened, because the policy terms are nearly the same (the GEICO policy is better). Thank you little gecko. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb

Pack? Dig the hole? Shoot myself? Which one do you recommend, Mr. Hawkins? rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb

I'm ready to shoot myself. No worries, though, because at the present time, I don't own a gun. I don't want to pack. I hate it. So I'm doing all the peripheral mishegoss instead, and every time I look up from the monitor, I see something else that needs attention. I have until next weekend to accomplish everything, and I have to work all week next week. And Beck is here. I'm seriously considering taking my little shovel, digging a hole in the back yard and burying myself. The only thing stopping me is that digging a hole deep enough is probably as much work as packing. Other than that, life is ducky. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb

I see it as being just the opposite, because that has been my professional experience. And if it's not about payment avoidance, it's about continuing the marital war. Fortunately, we don't get to decide. As I said, the system is a pretty good system, and while it needs a few tweaks here and there, it seems to work better (for most children) every day. rl Edited to add: But we're way off the topic of tricking a man into parenthood. And that's something I think does need to be resolved better than it is now. If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb

You need to look at some other things. It is a verifiable fact that many non-custodial fathers lose interest. There are a lot of reasons for this, and it's not a slur on fathers, but merely a statement of what happens in the real world. And fathers who lose interest in seeing their children also lose interest in paying child support. I've been pretty much out of family law for a few years (at one time, it was nearly all I did), and based on what lawrocket has written here, California is different from New Jersey and the state of the law has changed somewhat in general. But people like lawrocket and me only see the more extreme cases, because the people who have managed to work things out on behalf of their kids don't need much in the way of legal services. I think we already have a real solution. Implementing it is the hard part--because people continue to use their children as game pieces in an ongoing post-marital war. Support awards are generally reasonable, but some people seem to think that the behavior of the spouse has something to do with what their children are entitled to. I know a guy who has gone to the state Supreme Court twice because he claims his wife lied...I can't remember what she lied about, but it didn't have anything to do with the kids. Still, he owes tens of thousands of unpaid support, and he is determined not to pay it. I know about this because he asked me to help him do some legal research. I told him to pay the goddam support. As I said, Beck's dad paid his support--regularly and on-time (except once time, but he made it up a week later when the snit had passed) and I paid mine when she lived with him. Our relationship was perfectly friendly, and the moments of consternation were solely the result of his current wife and her nuttiness. So everything else I write about is what I've read or what I've seen in the context of working as a legal assistant. And it's not pretty. Much of the world is populated by children in adult bodies. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb

so the father understanding how his money is going in support of his child instead of just having it ordered as some arbitrary amount doesn't make sense to you???? that is nuts And he's going to believe her? Even if he doesn't believe his own attorney? Or the court? Besides, if she knows, why doesn't he know? Are you saying that men are too stupid to figure out where the money goes? Most of the time (the way it has been told to me by clients), the guy thinks that the mother shouldn't have anything, that she should spend every dime she has on the children. It's her job, after all, as a mother. So he doesn't really give a flying fuck about where the money really goes, because every dime she spends on herself is "his" money that she's spending frivolously. Talk about nuts. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb

What's a mother to do? I was wondering if you could crop it a little more and make the picture even smaller. We can still make out what it is. I didn't crop it. Her friend took it with her phone right after it was done. You can even see the bandage. It's actually really pretty on her neck. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
