Don't open it. Call your local municipal Animal Control, and let them know you have an animal in the chimney. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb

And now we're back to what started this...because they don't want to alienate women in general, and yet what they post repeatedly are pictures of perfect women...which brings us back to my cranky comment in that other thread. Don't misunderstand, I understand that men are far more visual than women--it's purely biological. And I understand that men will always look, given the opportunity. But what I'm saying is that it sends a message. Given that we see men bemoaning their single status almost as often as they post perfect bodies...I'm saying that it's counterproductive to make the latter posts and scare off the real women. There are a lot of ways of sending a message, and regardless of what sweeping statements men don't want to make, the actions speak as statements. Still cranky, rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb

With the right company and a beautiful exit point, there are few things I'd rather do. Jumping is secondary... Damn. I forgot who I was writing to. Make that "dawn, two days hence" instead. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb

Jeff, you've really run away with this, but I'll respond anyway. He wasn't asking about the relationship. He didn't give a shit about the relationship or about me. He just wanted to know that he was making a good impression all the way around. That's all that ever mattered to him--the impression he was making. I was talking about this particular little tic some people have--total self-involvement is another way of describing it--upthread. I give my friends plenty of positive reinforcement, but some people are black holes, bottomless pits and it's all about them. That's why I kept telling him to "focus outward," because he never stopped looking at himself long enough to know that he wasn't the only person in the world. And this is on one of the topics we've touched on here, because this is one of the biggest things I look at when it comes to figuring out who someone really is. People who are totally self-involved online will not be less self-involved in person. It's one of the biggest clues you're ever going to pick up about another's personality. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb

Wouldn't walking next door and visiting Peter be the same as visiting you? Shorter trip. The problem is that he keeps going out on the town without me. I'm tellin' ya, Chris, your teammate is a bum. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb

I'm not sure if we're looking for a series of "here's what *I* look for" responses, or if we're looking for refutations/affirmations of entrenched stereotypes regarding what each sex looks for in a partner. Well, this started with my criticism of all the "hot chick" threads. I told the culprits that it's no wonder they're not getting laid when they make real women too insecure to make a move...or something that meant that. So, for me, that's the issue. I don't know what it is for everyone else. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb

The one line most uttered by my ex-husband in the time we were together: "How am I doin'?" After about six months, my answer was: "Focus outward." rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb

I've been known to do that, but I wasn't the one who started talking about red fags. Back on topic, I don't care what a guy looks like (what he smells like to me--i.e., pheremones--is something I have less control over, but it hasn't been too much of a problem), but I do care that he's smart and clever and not complacent about his relationships (read "is emotionally involved in vs. wants people around him only to serve his needs"). If I detect control-freak or verbally/emotionally abusive tendencies or if complacency sets in early on, I run, but sometimes those are hard traits to ferret out at the beginning when a guy is on his best behavior. And really, I don't want a guy to be on his best behavior. I want to know what I'll be dealing with six months from now, before I waste six months. The couple of times I've picked a guy because he was pretty (without regard for whatever else he was), it was a disaster. I'd rather know someone's heart and head, because I know I'll love how he looks just because I love him. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb

Don't do it, Jaap. He'll trap you at the exit point at dawn, and he'll start talking and the next thing you know, it'll be midnight. And a hearty to you, Tom. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb

Don't you go trying to hijack my thread with all this talk about some new brand of cigarette, Jeff. (Or is this a spinoff from SC about gay commies? Must be if you're talking about the FBI.) I really do want to hear what people think about this subject...if we could get back to the subject... rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb

I don't think the factual stuff is really the issue. Well, okay, it's an issue, but it's not the big issue. What I look for is evidence that someone is a control freak or sees others as two-dimensional. In earlier years on the net (I've been around since '89), I wasn't very good at discerning character from a person's posts, but in the years since (especially after a few bad experiences), I've gotten better at it. (Not all the time, although that's more because I don't want to see it, not because it isn't there.) Everyone makes mistakes, and some of my favorite people are those who have made them and made up for them. But making a mistake is not the same as being the sort of person who is totally self-centered and uncaring towards others, but extremely needy nonetheless. Often you will find this person to be one who oozes sympathy and compassion at every opportunity, but there's no substance behind it. Isn't it funny how these threads go. I hijacked the other thread, and the discussion then went in the direction I took it. You started this thread to continue that discussion, and now look where we are. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb

I notice that five people have voted that only men experience sexual pleasure. Hyuck, hyuck. But there may be a kernel of truth in that. Some years ago, Dear Abby did a poll of women: "Would you rather have sex or cuddle?" Overwhelmingly, the women who answered the poll wanted to cuddle. If I recall correctly, this wasn't that many years after the Hite Report (70s) told us that only one in three women experience orgasm through intercourse alone. And it was a time when oral sex still wasn't talked about all that much, although I believe that some men perceived their divine right to fellatio, even if cunnilingus never occurred to them. Further, I had a black male friend tell me that black guys don't go down on women (this, at least, I have a date for: 1977), but I believe that has changed in the intervening years. We now have evidence that insists women have more powerful orgasms than men. And women talk about sex--a lot--and seem to be having more interesting sexual experiences than in the past. But I have run into a lot of guys who still think that if a woman doesn't have an orgasm before they do, there's nothing they can do about it. So even though women can experience sexual pleasure, maybe some of them aren't just because the men in their lives are unimaginative. Just a thought. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb

RhondaLea replied to kallend's topic in Speakers Corner
If she thinks she's getting coded signals from the TV, she's probably schizophrenic, or at the very least, prone to psychotic breaks. So there doesn't seem to be much blame to assign there. The judge, however, needs to have his head examined. What he did in signing the TRO is inexcusable, and as I said above, he should be removed from the bench. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb -

I don't think such posts should be deleted. It gives the people who make them a free pass. Better that the unmitigated meanness and lack of empathy should be out there in the open so that everyone can know what sort of person they're dealing with. There's enough support in this thread--and in the kinds of threads that attract psycho ravers and trolls--that the garbage can be ignored except to the extent it lets you know who to avoid. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from.
