  1. Ignore the skeptical. The fact that you can construct a coherent English sentence is more than enough of a credential. What you do for a living is icing on the cake. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
  2. This would be okay except that some people have skirted right along the edge of saying "rape is justified" and "she deserved to be raped." I'm pretty sure I tried to separate the issues, but you're trying to merge them again. The original post had nothing to do with walking around in a bad neighborhood. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
  3. I don't think it was a joke that had anything to do with the security staff. College student, remember? I'm sure it was some dumb idea she conceived with her friends and none of them ever contemplated the thought of what might happen at the airport. The target for the joke was probably one of her friends at home. There's a context for everything, and taking things out of context always makes them look different. No matter how she carried it, flour is flour, not a drug and certainly not a weapon. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
  4. Rhondalea I do believe you're being a prick tease. I deserve a spanking. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
  5. Maybe you should try showing how thankful you are by paying for it like everybody else does. Apparently you failed to follow the thread, Mark. Maybe you should go back and read it all again for comprehension. You know, how it started, how it progressed. The post to which you are replying fits perfectly into the context of the thread, whereas yours is, at a minimum, out-of-place. How you can turn something nice into the reason for venting bile is beyond me. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
  6. Almost, except for one thing. When did it become the law that one may not carry condoms and flour in one's suitcase? rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb

  8. I don't know if I should post in this thread or not. If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
  9. I don't understand why you're mad at her. She didn't do anything wrong, and it is kind of frightening to me that flour could be "confused" with cocaine and opium. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb

  11. I think everyone is so boggled that we have our very own adult film stars that they failed to notice your offer. I think it's cool as hell, and it makes me wish I'd never stopped jumping. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb

  14. Well, you didn't hear the part about what I would do if I thought I'd run into you at the grocery store, Michael. Love ya, boy toy. If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
  15. I post personal things here as a way of making a point or making a connection. I am fully aware that people I know live and in-person (people I may run into at the grocery store) will read what I write. It doesn't feel anonymous to me. I would rather be judged by my friends than by strangers. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb

  17. I want you to think about that for a bit. I think I know what you mean, i.e., what your intention is, but life is drama. People who make mountains out of molehills have no real drama in their lives and they're usually pretty self-centered, so they have to make every little thing "about them." Getting away from "invented" drama is good. But I know there are people in this world who are so determined to "not get involved" that they end up abandoning the people who need them and count on them in the name of "avoiding drama." I'm not very good in day-to-day life. I fall out of touch, I don't return my phone calls or answer my emails in a timely manner, but if a friend comes up with a crisis, I try to do what is needful. That way, I manage to avoid the mundane mishegoss that people make for themselves so they don't die of boredom, but I rarely let people down (although I do have a few spectacular failures of which I'm very unproud) when they really need me. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. 18. Okay... As I mentioned, I lived on a dropzone (three different dropzones, actually) for a little over two years. And I also worked at all three (one of them only for a few weeks). I've talked about why I quit jumping (and why I may yet begin again), but I haven't talked much about why I stopped living and working on the dz, and I don't intend to talk about it now. But I think you've got an idea about skydivers that is false to fact. They're just people, like all other people, although I would say that, generally speaking, their emotional state is probably a bit more extreme than the norm. If you really believe what you wrote, you need to have a conversation or a few with some of those people who are always on the dropzone--the packers, the coaches, the instructors. And especially don't forget to ask a manifestor or two for their perceptions of dropzone life. What you will see in this sport above all else is movement. You may think people go from dropzone to dropzone because of the weather, and that's at least partly true. But it's not the whole of the story, and it's that other, unspoken part that you need to examine. Skydiving is just a microcosm of the real world, but because it is more intense, everything else is magnified too. Everything. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
  19. Mine too. I'm totally disgusted. I can't believe there are women who act that way. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
  20. Nope. It's generic naughty words all the way. If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
  21. A woman who is not very funny in her own right, but who has the occasional knack for writing things that draw others out. And some people are easier to draw than others. You're the best, Tom. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
  22. Mine can. Maybe she's faking. If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
  23. In 1999, I left New Jersey and a job that paid well to live in DeLand, in a tent and a job on a dropzone for $7 an hour. While I would not trade that two years--because I learned a lot about myself during that time--I caution you to think it through and consider all the consequences. And be sure to have a fallback position. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
  24. But isn't it sad that these people have no person in their lives to tell their secrets to? Some of those things...if a friend told me some of those things...I would want to hold them and comfort them. I don't see much comfort to be had in anonymous sharing, if you want to know the truth. Catharsis, I suppose, but not comfort. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
  25. I think, perhaps too much, that is too simplistic an approach. I believe it is only through introspection into our true motives that we can begin the path to self-actualization. If we don't know where we are coming from, how can we know where we are going? I know people who have spent the better part of their lives on this question. They went nowhere because they were so focused on themselves that they never had a clue what was going on around them. It's a double-edged sword. The way we really get to know ourselves is by examining our interactions with others. Being less self-conscious and more other-conscious makes people happier and more well-rounded in the long run. A certain amount of self-esteem, self-awareness and self-love are necessary to survival. Beyond a certain point, however, all three qualities become self-defeating. At least if we hope to have any kind of relationship with the world around us. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
