  1. I've gotten feedback from a lot of people in freefall who love me having a chest mount. None care enough to buy their own however :-) Even tandem masters like it when I do video of them - as I like it when tandem masters put a chest mount on their students. Its a great thing to have for other people. Its unfortunate that more people don't do it... Its funny - we had an AFF student here - who we just figured out her turning problem had to do with reading a wrist mount altimeter. She's going to get prescription goggles, but with her glasses under goggles, she was having trouble reading her wrist mount. She wants a chest mount.
  2. I wear both. I use my wrist mount during freefall, my chest mount during tracking. Largely the chest mount is for other people more than me. Its really easy reading other people's chest mounts - I love videoing tandems where the students are given chest mounts - I know the altitude the whole way! Even having one other person on a load with a chest mount is very handy! Unless one breaks, I can't foresee not wearing both anytime soon...
  3. It was funny. I thought you left after the first jump so I told Bob that. Then I thought he left for food and you were still there. So I told you you just missed him, and less than 2 minutes later after you left, he was there! On the good side of things, we hired a new manifester this weekend so I am free to jump again :-)
  4. I never watch my canopy opening on CRW jumps. All I do is try and stay on heading and watch the 3-5 people exiting after me with my hands on my risers. More than one person has been killed on CRW exits by concentrating on things other than the people following them. Have your hands on the risers and watch the others...
  5. I agree completely. Broken A lines - chop ! Seen some hard landings from not following that rule. But broken D lines? I once did an entire 4-way CRW jump from 14k without realizing I had a broken D line! It didn't affect the flight at all, and it wasn't until I was para-hiking back and noticed something dragging behind me that i realized I even had an issue! W
  6. We have a rental rig with a PD 190 in it as well.
  7. Yep. A couple people signed up today. Its popular for sure..
  8. Mark Mark and Penny are both turning 50 that week so we are having a grand birthday celebration! We're gonna have margaritas and beer, formation loads, tons of jumping and great partying. I'm trying to get some Smart Reserve Demo's out that weekend as well to jump. Come out and celebrate them becoming old farts!
  9. FYI I just scheduled 2 tandems (and there may be 2 more) for Friday afternoon the 16th so Temple will be jumping then as well..
  10. Actually call me or the dz :-) I'm answering the dz phone this week and can take down your info. If you sign up then only 2 slots left..
  11. Many of us do! Though some better than others :-)
  12. Where do you find insurance that cheap? I looked all over last spring, and the cheapest I could find was catastriophic insurance for $90 a month. I would love to either pay less for catastrophic, or the same amount for something decent but I couldn't find anything available. I'd switch in a heartbeat if I knew something was out there... W
  13. Oh dear lord - yeah those guys take it low. I remember in Brazil doing a hard 180 to final and watching Lyal and someone else go by me in a downplane (not horizontally close but vertically lower)! Startled the crap out of me cuz I thought I was doing a low turn. Course according to Lyal they weren't even close to low! W
  14. That's it. Unfortunately its not digital.. :-( W
  15. Are there any smaller cameras out there which take remote switches? I saw a guy awhile back who had a pretty dang tiny camera with a bite switch - he said he had to do some work to get it functioning but it does.. I'd just prefer to get something less bulky and heavy than so many of the cameras. W
  16. I'm looking at buying a digital still camera and was looking around at parts. Anyone know what the setup is here at this site? http://www.square1.com/manufacturers/square1/p1055.asp It looks like a much smaller camera than the Canon's and it apparently takes a bite/tongue switch.. W
  17. Subterminal for sure. One of my CRWdogs here has a Triathalon 160 in an Aerodyne container. It is the "tight" side of what can get in there. Practically every single CRW opening he has is a PC in tow for a while.. I've seen him have 10 second unintentional delays before.. Another friend has a Javein container with a traditional freefall main - we did CRW a while back and he had such a long pc-in-tow he reached back to pull his own pin and spun himself into such spectacular line twists! Luckily we were at 14 grand so he got out of em but it was amusing to watch... We had another case of a young jumper having a pc-in-tow a few weeks ago. She was watched from above by someone experienced who swore than the pc was out and inflated but wasn't pulling anything. Her container did have a tight pack job, but the main came out as soon as she fired the reserve so its hard to say the cause. We are positive it wasn't a misrouted bridle though. W
  18. Sounds reasonable to me. I wouldn't go much lower in case something suddenly happened to make the situation worse.. But seeing as how most CRWdogs stay very current in their emergency procedures, I'd say lower for true dogs than for freefallers...
  19. I once had my spinning line twists and my Pro-track never saw the deployment of my main - just my reserve...
  20. What did he say was wrong with the container? Some people will bad-mouth Racers for no reason. They're good rigs. If there is a legitimate problem with the container its one thing, but don't get a different container just because he doesn't like Racers... W

    Moon Sand

My niece has some of that - we played with it over Christmas! Worked quite well actually.. W
  22. I can flat pack as fast as a pro-pack, but pro-packs open consistently slower..
  23. Apple always used to give free OS upgrades to anyone who had bought a computer from them in the last (60?) days or something like that.. So if you buy direct from Apple, you should get free software updates if they come out soon. But I'd wait till Tuesday just to be sure :-) W
  24. More than happy to do my part in keeping the community togetehr. The really funny part of it is - I do more computer and website work now than I did when I was a full-time computer geek!! And I must say I'm proud of myself - when I left tonight - those of you who were at my CRW boogie know - "4 vodkas and a taco" was soundly passed out sound asleep when I stumbled home tonight :-) He still loves his Indian name!
