Yep. I had 48 jumps when I got off of student status and was given the bowling ball speech once. I'm glad I was too stubborn to quit..
-
I jumped there a couple of years ago. I had to buy some sort of National Insurance, and had to join their skydiving association (I think I bought a 1-month membership.) A Japanese work associate helped me with all that stuff luckily cuz I never would have been able to figure all that out! That being said, the club was great there. Fantastic people, very friendly, I slept on the floor of their building with everyone else. Only a couple spoke any English, but we had international language of beer and cards :-)

I tell everyone who orders a rig - from ANY manufacturer these days - to lie about what size canopies you are putting in it. I've never understood why people want to wear a brick. I was trying to teach someone how to pack last week, who was putting a brand new 210 (slippery as heck) into a rig built for a 190. It makes learning to pack 10 times than it should be...

They're still around but not sure if they read on here. I know other locals in the area do though so they can hook ya up!

I support it too. Wendy Faulkner D-17441 USPA 100252 I've got over 2000 CRW jumps and am very comfortable around other canopies in the air, but I'm frigging scared to death to have to land in the same landing area as people doing big turns on final.. I've come really close to being taken out more than once..

Near incident low opening AAD fire
faulknerwn replied to Fullonmother's topic in Safety and Training
Absolutely - more so in my younger, skinnier years but still quite true now - at the end of any RW dive I would just relax and instantly be 10 feet above the formation and would be a thousand feet above a lot of folks at the end of the track. Being light and slow is a huge help in that, but for bigger folks, dead-spidering first would make a big difference.. On a dive I was on recently, I was tracking forward about the same speed as the guy beside me, but he was dropping like a rock. He dumped at the same horizontal distance from the center of the formation as I, but I was a thousand feet above him so I kept tracking. I feel much safer being able to look down at most of the people around me on a skydive after a track.. -
There may be wear, but they last a lot longer than that. I have a PD 150 - loaded at about 1.1 to one - that actually surfs nice on no-wind days! It lands beautifully (Brian Germain even commented on that in the canopy control course he had here). I know I'm at minimum the 3rd owner and I've put at least 200 jumps on it. Its not even beginning to show a problem with flare...

Responding to "Swooping is not a crime"
faulknerwn replied to pop's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I can land in the peas 90% of the time and I never use my altimeter under canopy. I use my eyeballs - where I start my pattern can vary greatly - it depends on where the spot was, how easy it was to get back, what other canopy traffic is doing etc. Once you train your eyeballs, you don't need to use your altimeter so much. It reminds me of a time an old-timer had the young jumpers he was doing an RW group with lay on the ground. When they did, he told them to look at the ground. He explained that they were zeroing their primary altimeter :-) -
Highlight of my weekend!

What Made You Start Skydiving?
faulknerwn replied to Kiakambala's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'd wanted to do it since I was a little kid (actually wrote off to a dz when I was 12 to get literature on it :-) but didn't start till I was in grad school. It was exam week, and I felt like jumping off of something. I called up a dz on Friday, drove 3 hours to get there Saturday morning, did 2 static line jumps that day and never looked back! -
Lots of green still on the radar all around.. And yep, we have a grass strip. Even if it was asphalt, you're sinking up to your shins in mud if you walk in the grass around here. Depending on exactly where you are, according to the local newspaper, there's been between 10-20 inches of rain since Thursday.
-
Considering the fact that we've gotten non-stop rain for a week now, we've decided that since we can't jump here, we're going to have a swim meet. Do a couple of laps up and down the runway - winner gets to serve drinks out of our poolside margarita machine.. Sigh. Ok. We're not quite THAT flooded - but we're pretty dang close. Its pouring buckets here yet again today...

Ring finger is longer, and I have a Masters in Math. I always heard it was a male/female thing - I've got the "masculine" measurements but I always was a tomboy!

Texas has grass :-) That's a big plus over Arizona. Everytime I've ever been to Arizona, I've come home sick from breathing dust all day long. It really bothers my lungs..

Are all licensed skydivers in Maryland wealthy??

Course if they're only a tandem mill, why do they advertise load-organizers, camping and showers? -
Stupid Human Trick- 'Mr. Bill'
faulknerwn replied to missann1320's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Actually - everyone I've ever seen do Mr Bill's - even successful ones - still always end up beat up! -
How many passengers for each of these jumpships?
faulknerwn replied to RkyMtnHigh's topic in The Bonfire
I know if CRW were last out of the PAC here, Mark would slow the plane down to about 60 for me :-) I loved those exits! W -
I actually like it - its better than Dos Equis or Corona in my opinion...
-
Absolutely! One time when I was in Japan, I spent half an hour wandering through a district before I found a restaurant (all of whom had outside picture menus) that served a picture of recognizable food! I didn't care - meat, fish - but I just wanted to have a vague clue of what picture I was pointing at!
-
Well its fixed - Stitch came down and helped work on it. Still not sure exactly what the problem was but its working now! W

Sex offender registration...always appropriate?
faulknerwn replied to livendive's topic in Speakers Corner
There was a guy in Texas recently who ended up on the sex offenders list because of "display in public" - his crime - taking a leak outside! That's just goofy. -
I had that problem and put gaffers tape on the center part of the buckle. Worked like a champ - no more slippage!
-
Yeah - I've wondered that myself. I've been told both that I need wings and that I don't. But I've NEVER had an issue with going slow, and filming our faster tandem masters, I wear a tight RW suit with weights! Couldn't figure out why some people swore I should have wings...
-
Yeah there's a switch that can be turned on and off there. Basically it just makes the ignition happen (the clicky stuff) if I turn it on... Stlll doesn't light tho!
-
No selector switch - it automatically turns on. The water is definitely not hot - ran out of propane yesterday and its definitely not hot!
