  1. Unless your rigger is a seamstress also I'd suggest finding someone who sews clothes, not parachutes. I've tried to cross over and I'm no good at clothes. Mainly because it's tough for me to use anything but e thread. As to plan, that's up to you. Not sure I'd cut the sleeves off my ONLY jumpsuit. Seems that is what you want to do. I'm old for my age. 2. So what happens to the paraglider? I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  3. Doesn't strike me as a good idea either. The food grade silicon doesn't contain larger chain hydrocarbons. WD-40 we don't know what's in it but seems to work well. I'd want to stay away from the waxes in something like Pledge. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  4. I haven't had less than two rigs since 1981 and usually three or four. I never liked riding the plane down when throwing static line students. We all know landing in those things is dangerous. But I'm a pack rat and none of my stuff is newer than 1997 except a cypres. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  5. George Galloway was Paratelemetry. It was the same system he now puts on the Plexus. In theory he had set ups.for.the.system designed with several manufacturers. The kicker was having the 700$ plus receiver. Call George at.Precision to see if he could still supply it and who might be willing to have it on their rigs. I'm old for my age. 6. So is a 2 way roundabout a roundabout or just a really short ring road? Do show that thing to our traffic engineers. We have enough trouble with one way roundabouts. Here in MI the state is starting to use them on the interchanges on the interstate. Not at highway speeds but at the ramp/secondary road intersections. Also have added them at some busy suburban interchanges and on WMU campus. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  7. The Plexus FIDO started life by the same folks as Paratelemetry.com many years ago. Old idea. Based on off the shelf Falcon/Hawk tracking equipment in adapted risers. Never became wide spread or popular. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  8. I hope your not drinking "strongly acid" water.. Water at the pHs they claim would be burning your mouth. And wouldn't be water, it would be strong mineral acid. What few scientific words they throw around on their website don't make sense. I guess Kangen water is the alkaline version coming out.of the $4000, pyramid scheme machine. But 11 is pretty alkaline. Would want to drink that either. Think snake oil. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  9. Look up valsalva maneuver in your favorite reference. Google and you'll get youtube, wiki, etc. Do that to try to equalize the pressure in your inner ear. I'm not going to try to explain here except to say you can think your doing it but not pressurizing the right area of throat and eustacian tubes. Should feel in ears. Obtain Afrin or similar nasal spray. Used in US military high altitude chamber training for people who can't clear their ears during the descent. Faster than systemic oral decongestants. 10. But in the spirit of my other post who has packed a Strong Aerosport (in a free sleeve)?, a Preserve V in a back? in a SEAT. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  11. Actually, he made all the prototypes and two or three lap containers but has never packed one. I think he has done the back. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  12. Plummer was the only alternate that I know of. Dave was certainly around and might have been. This was all before I moved up here. But I'm pretty good friends with Don Carpenter. I think I would have heard over the years if Dave was. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  13. I've got a Chinese seat courtesy of Jerry but no canopy. Of course there are sub-types. Strong squadron versus 'normal' one - canopy goes around opposite ends. Strong Aerosport with a 28' in a nylon free sleeve. I now have two of those. Softie with a Preserve V. I may have had the only ones of those or at least first. I sold them new, I think they were the first, and the bag versus container size was a little off. Softies also with Butler lopos. Butler with their lopo, their hx and with c9's. I'm old for my age. 14. My FAA inspector expects me to test senior rigger candidates on both round and ramair. And I expect to train and test both. Next lap rating test is in a couple of weeks. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  15. Friend of mine just made his first round jump after a couple thousand jumps. Didn't believe my spot and hung out too long. 195 under phantom 28 was just fine. BPA allows.it not.hard.to.find out Put an old round reserve on 3ring risers with a bag and a throw out PC and put it your sport rig. Routinely stood up.when 170lbs under a 35 ft T10 like in the video. On occasion stood up Paracommander. And with modern round reserves you have control. Last time I jumped one was 18 years after the previous round jump. Hit pea pit from 5000ft. exit and 1/2 mile out. But landing approach starts at opening. I'm old for my age. 16. If its 3 inches they are longer than they used to be. And I'm not using a male ruler. He may very well have a newer rig than the one i'm remembering from 15 years ago. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  17. Okay, this.makes up for the thoughts thread. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  18. Your supposed to be looking for a bar tacker! What's with this crap? But my kind of philosophy. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  19. Yeah, what do you want? Try a multiple city craigslist site. Ebay with sellers that don't want to ship are often better deals. Refine search for distance from home. There's a 7-34 and walking foot brother in N Wi on craigslist. I've bought machines from business closing.sales, craigslist, ebay local, ebay shipped, government liquidation auction, dz.com classifieds and local liquidator online auction as well as used HD home machines from local sewing stores. But.you need to have an idea of models you wants in order to search effectively. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  20. It was scary and IIRC it was a Talon. There was no way I would have hung from those risers and cables on the ground let alone in the air. But the guy was a wannbie sky god that you couldn't tell anything to. I was looking at converting a northern lite sos to normal and didn't see too much special about that one. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  21. I know where a couple of student 1pin northern lites with SOS systems are. Still air worthy so not salvage cheap. But not too much technical about them. All three housings to left side. All three cables on one D handle. Cables staged to cutaway before pulling reserve. Still includes rsl in case of incomplete pull. Makes sl/iad student (and I guess aff) emergency procedures easy. Pull handle all the way. But then requires retraining later if students stay in sport. I know one experienced jumper that choose to keep it. Was doing 200 plus ways with it. But I never packed jt and it scared me. He had NO MORE THAN two inches of cable through each 3 ring loop. Really think it was less. PM me if your interested in the container. I'm old for my age. 22. Don't count on just the classifieds here, ebay or other used gear online. Your profile is empty but become a friend with you dzo, instructors, riggers and other jumpers, not just a student. I, for instance , have lots of used newbie airworthy gear that I might be willing to sell, rent, loan with deposit etc.to a FRIEND but would never bother advertising. In years passed rigs would start out new but when the original owner upgraded they would get passed from newbie to newbie from year to year. Until they got old, out dated or worn enough to be retired to rigger training. I have one that has had 6 owners, 23 years, 2000 plus jumps that I serviced for much of its life. Common is an older javelin, vector, or northern lite with a reserve and older zp main for $1500. Make a hundred and resell. Buy the new aad that you will need/want anyway and move to you new rig when you get one. For example. I know where there is a brand new old stock reflex never assembled. Actually I know where there are two. $500 or so. Raven, tempo,, glidepath, swift.plus reserves and triathlons or sabre mains. The stuff is around but its not out looking for you, you have to ask people not websites. Of course I'm a pack rat. I'd actually forgot.about my new reflex for the last year or so. 23. Doesn't Germany have a mandatory 15 year service life? I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  24. The silli stuff is from Europe, been around in some form for 17 years and never became very popular. Tube stows used by more folks but many.people.think rubber bands hold better. They also break easier when you might want one to break. Of ciurse the don't last as long but they are much cheaper. One issue is the black locking tube stows.are temp sensitive. I had a customer that brought me a rig that had been in his car in winter all day. We opened it up and the black tube stows has now elasticity. Pulled the.lines out and the stayed stretched out until they warmed up. That was enough.to.turn me off. Single stow versus double stow.is.like Ford and Chevy trucks. You'll find as many people that like each. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
