  3. I spent some time trying to get it to happen on the ground. I was using an FXC 12000 to pull the bridle. Fastest thing I could think of. Could not get it to happen. As best I can figure the bridle is being pulled over the pin before the pin is loaded. I believe longer pin attachment tape (I've seen longer than this one) and not only position of bridle and pin but slack or no slack in pin tape is important. I did some rough calculations once on the speed the bridle would be going by the pin before loading the pin. Even when I decreased my assumed speed by 90% it was still something crazy fast. There were reasons that we did it the way we did but those reasons may be long gone. Bottom up is easier than figuring out mechanism and preventing it, but I still do it old school.   4. As I said, the jumpers at your local DZ may be the best place. It may not be advertized but there may be gear for sale around the DZ. If not your DZ a nearby DZ. Call those near enough to drive to and ask around. See who your size just bought new gear. Hang around and get to know the folks. A few websites list used gear. Square 1, Chuting Star are two, I'll let others add more. All of the used gear I've bought for jumping (versus rigger training) has been local and I'm at a small DZ. That's 6 or seven rigs.   6. Once again I have to recommend experienced rigger. Many riggers may have no more than a general idea that a rig might be too big, have never measured anybody for a rig, have never dealt with a wings container, etc. A rigger ticket requires basic knowledge and skills and no skydiving experience. You may very well be asking the right folks and the rig may very well be too big. But simply asking a 'rigger' may not get you the experience you need. Getting with your dealer and the manufacturer is the way most appropriate. And while it may be too big remember this is the first rig made for you and it will feel different than any rental or student rig.   7. If in airworthy condition the Dolphin is fine for RW, that's what it was designed for. Including normal pre freeflying skydiving maneuvers like back loops, front loops, barrel rolls, tracking and all sorts of goofy exits. Being airworthy but not suitable for a back loop are somewhat conflicting opinions. As for finding gear small is 5' 100 lbs. While lot more bigger gear around because many more male skydivers your the size of lots of skydivers. One thing may be to get to know the other women at your DZ.   11. For a hundred bucks your good to go. I'm a little worried that's too cheap from a service center. Has it been serviced or is it an as is trade in? To expand on what monky said. This is not a double needle machine as used for parachute seams or binding tape. Instead of creating two independent rows of stitching with two needled,.two hooks and two bobbins this uses one needle shank with.two needles that looks like a pitch fork. There are two threads on the.top and only one on the.bottom. If.you want double needle for something completely unrelated to skydiving (crafts, decorative stitch on clothing) then it MAY do what you want. It will not .serve as a double needle for rigging.   13. Obvious, his ability to instruct was sub par in that he thought it was a good idea to hand a full auto weapon to a child. Any instructor with the mind set that doing such is a good idea needs to re-examine their ability to teach. There was no teaching here. It was a thrill ride. The mind set was to make money. This was a tourist attraction to allow folks to shoot the guns they see on tv and in video games. {You could argue, but I won't, that if full auto firearms weren't restricted fewer folks would be interested and more people would be familiar enough to know not to hand it to a nine year old.} A better analogy to this incident is the lady falling out of the tandem harness. Someone who could/should have been told no, instructors and others who perhaps didn't do their job and a need to cater to the thrill ride customer. Might be called instructors but little instruction goes on with either this gun situation or most tandems. Is this stupider than someone doing a tandem? Sure. But this incident has little to do with gun rights, gun instruction, gun safety or even parenting.   14. What's a pretty good price? Any more than $50 is probably too much. It would not be my first choice for an older home machine. Viking and Necchi have worked well for me and still do. I don't know about that one but stay away from any home machine with nylon/plastic gears. If can sort out how pull the top and see if the gears a plastic or metal. I still choose to make toggles sewing through 6 layers of type four to make the nose with one similar to this rather than my industrial zig zag machines. I'm old for my age.   16. When Leslie Irvin first set up his factory in England in 1926 he advertised for male and female workers."Good looks" were.one.of.the requirements for the women. He initially hired 3 men and 7 women whose first job was to install the equipment. Attached is a photo of the English staff from 1926. 16 women and 10 men including Leslie. BTW the group of parachute in cront of the staff are LAP parachutes. Integral harnesses and center pull ripcords. Of course the women were probably running sewing machines, just like today.   18. I did a lot of rigging in my apt. Rounds at the dz. But my 1000 sq ft house had a 42' basement. When we shopped for our.current house all the realtors in town knew us as the.couple that needed a 40' basement. Ended up with room for 60' of temporary table and second 40' table. And room for 9 or 10 sewing machines. A full inspection can be done on floor in flat pack layout. And getting a rating is the first step to building a shop, home or otherwise. I'm old for my age.   20. I've meant Alan and respect him. But I've seen this idea years ago even though the video is new. It's also from a shop in the Netherlands but couldn't quite figure out whether it's Jo's shop or another. This is something that could be added to helmets with a Fastex type buckle that might help. If your going to jump it anyway might as well try. But not sure I'd rely on it as a sure release. Kind of better than nothing if you can't get a more positive release. I'm old for my age.     True for all AADs Some other brands have a much longer list of failing to save lives when they should. A longer list of SYSTEM failures where the AAD worked as designed but.the rest.of.the system failed. And the AAD didn't capture the loop. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
