  1. Congrats! Hope it works out!
  2. Yup, yup, yup. I am definitely in competition with myself. But I enjoy it! I might beat myself up a little over a stupid maneuver, a bad sideslide, going slightly low or slightly high, a poor exit, etc...but I try not to dwell too much on it. I definitely don't enjoy the "zoo" loads as much as I used to. My goal right now is vague, just to get better in general, learn the 4-way dive pool...But I'm also trying to work with a budget right now, so my skills haven't progressed as fast as I'd like. I'd like to go to Nationals next year. And god, I need a tunnel fix soon or I'm gonna explode!
  3. 1:2:0 1 fun unemployment/housewarming/birthday party just 2 jumps. (lazy!) 0 beer. (some firsts, but nothing skydiving related)
  4. No more tinker-toy boy?
  5. Definitely have at least one other person, preferably a few, look over your resume before distributing it. I have seen so many poorly written resumes. I always tossed out the ones with spelling and grammar errors. Some looked like they were written in 5 minutes flat. Then I'd weed out the ones with too many "BS" terms. First impressions are so important. And typically the first thing they see about you is your resume.
  6. You do a lot less work than I do! My job is just more nebulous. I work my ass off just about all year-round, except around Christmas, when we're all lazy. You do nothing all year, except around Christmas.
  7. For instance: I do a gear check every time I leave my house. I think "keys, purse, etc," which is probably normal, but it is always involuntarily followed by "helmet, goggles, altimeter." Cannot help it! Added wierdness - I haven't worn goggles in a looong time. And I always think "helmet, goggles, altimeter" while I'm getting ready for a jump too. Can't seem to get rid of the "goggles" part of that. I've also seen cars pass me and thought "wow, he falls like a rock." Maybe I'm just going insane. Anyone else??
  8. Since when is meeting new people and moving to a new area a bad thing?? Families move all the time, and if anything, it is good for the kids. Moving constantly, every year or something, sure that could cause some havok, but moving ONCE when they were teens made them go psycho? So there were no bad kids to influence them in their old towns? I'm sure they would have encountered a few "bad seeds" there too. My father moved us to FL when I was 14. Yes, we moved for his career. Yes, I missed my friends at first, but I also learned a lot about another part of the country and about myself. There were no black or hispanic kids at my old school, and at my new school, a third of the kids spoke spanish fluently...that kind of thing. I learned how to make new friends and adapt.
  9. Sheesh, what's with all the redhead bashing lately?? We need a coalition.
  10. I paid for my first rig. It was an impulse buy! I had cash to burn, and I didn't feel like I was going to fall out of the rig, so I bought it. (used) It was a very quick decision. I only had about 20 jumps. And back then, there were so many Javelins at Z-hills that I figured, "if it works for them, it'll work for me!"
  11. :4:0 Just four 8-way team jumps on Saturday. Fun stuff, except for poor Jeannie's visor incident!
  12. 113 here...bullshit artist not as bad as I thought though, for working at such a giant company. Each and every day at least one person walks by me and says, "So, what do you do exactly?"
  13. 99.9:3:0 felt like 99.9% humidity today! just 3 jumps, but they were all fun.
  14. several:6:0 Several drinks....I was in rare form. 6 jumps, including one fun demo and some 4-ways. 0 beer owed as far as I can tell!
  15. I got rid of my DirecTV a few days ago. I was paying $45 a month for something I hardly ever use. (and there are really high satellite taxes in FL, 13%, sheesh)
  16. I forgot. Of course, I haven't seen any of this season, or the last, for that matter. So, oh well.
  17. Be careful while on conference calls...make sure you have the mute button on! I was chatting with a friend on and off during a call and I said "I'm going to jump my ass off this weekend"....and heard the call leader say "what was that??" Oops. But people at work ask me all the time about jumping. I have some photos up at my desk. I'll be taking a group over for tandems some point soon!
  18. bump! So...is Stacy-Palooza still on?
  19. :5:0 A little partying and 5 jumps, it was a nice, relaxing weekend. Finally got my 600th in - my friends succeded in scaring me and I turned and tracked at around 6 grand. (they were up to no good!) And I'm still loving my new Pilot.
  20. Talk to Jeannie and Stu about being vets. Jeannie works for someone else and Stu owns his own practice. They'd both have a lot of insight for you. Jeannie had a psychology degree and went to vet school much later after graduating. Not sure about Stu.
  21. I do really like the Prius...one concern though is whether or not maintenance costs are higher than regular vehicles. I haven't been able to find any figures on average maintenance/repairs costs for the Prius. I drive 37 miles each way to work, a hybrid would be really nice! Do you own one, billvon?
  22. OK, Bill, what is that in your avatar? :2:0 Lots of family stuff over the weekend and massive headaches too, so only 2 jumps in. 1 2-way (Ron is an evil fruitlooper) and 1 impromptu sorta-tracking dive. My new Pilot behaved very well...I am thrilled with it.
  23. He's shy. (ok, maybe not) Jerm - I'm sorry, I suck! I didn't even call. I even had it on my outlook calendar so I wouldn't forget! So you're 33 now, right? *ducks*
