  1. I'm not arguing any of your points. You do it your way and I do it mine. The reason I do it my way is to help to prevent exactly what seemed to happen with Shindig. Of course nothing is 100%. Just because you don't find something wrong before you pop the toggles doesn't mean something won't happen later. If you're going to loosen your chest strap I think it's very important to have retightening your strap as part of your EP's. This is a circumstance that has always remained in the back of my mind. It's not any different now in terms of my procedures but because of this incident it's at the front of mind. Of course an RSL probably would have saved his life. In this instance however having a camera on his head among other possible personal reasons precluded this option. We agree about the reality of skydiving: it can kill us without notice.
  2. I did. Just to make it clear the suggestion is to check for and be clear of traffic, collapse and then stow the slider, release toggles and perform canopy control check and then finally loosen the chest strap. I can't see where any other way would make sense. You're wrong on this one. Chest strap should be loosened BEFORE popping the toggles (for a number of reasons). Ian I am bumping this thread up because of the recent incident in Elsinore. It seems to be apparant that a loose chest strap may have been a significant factor in the death of this skydiver. He loosened the chest strap before popping the toggles. I have to ask specifically what Ian's response is to his personal suggestions and how it relates to an incident such as this one.
  3. Or....you could just hook him up kelly.
  4. Package for tandem????? The website specifically say to call for AFF pricing. The only AFF price listed is for the FJC that includes the first jump. The tandem pricing is just that: the price for a tandem. It doesn't say anything about tandem progression. I doubt they even do tandem progression. Furthermore AFF ends after level 7 in most cases. The jumps after that are coached until around level 13 or so. After that the jumps are solo. I'm not sure where you got the 300 bucks each for 25 jumps thing but you are way off dude. Why don't you call them, get accurate information and then report back on this thread?
  5. Damn ya'll are nuts. It's too cold for me to jump in the winter here in South Texas! I know what your winters are like too I spent 4 years at UW Madison.
  6. I fucking hate ALL snakes. Identification is pointless for me. I don't care if they're venomous or not. If I saw one of those I'd run like a mo fo.
  7. Skydive San Marcos has/had a big boy rig. I believe it's a converted tandem container with about a 300 sq ft canopy. I'd give them a shout if you're not too far.
  8. Must be nice. My dropzone won't jump on any Friday afternoon. Or any other afternoon for that matter except for the weekends.
  9. ***Your opinon is worth to me exactly what I paid for it. IMHO of course.*** Ummmmm. Then why start the thread to begin with if you don't respect other's opinions? If you want an accurate response then represent yourself in an accurate manner. It sounds to me like you don't like what you hear and are becoming defensive. As far as I'm concerned I think you lack the experience to jump a wing suit whether you have the jump numbers or not.
  10. Same diff. Scotch used in the general term. How often do you hear somebody ask for an Irish on the rocks?
  11. Ummmmm...I'll jump with you. Let me see if I can catch a flight from south Texas. Can I stay at your house?
  12. To be specific The Balvenie Cask 191 is a very superior single malt Scotch whiskey. Aged 50 years and it goes down like silk. If you can find it, it will set you back about $1000 or more. There's supposedly better out there but this is my favorite. I think I'll pour me one now. And yes...that's one thousand. For a good everyday easy to find Scotch it's hard to beat Jameson Gold.
  13. Are you a fucking history teacher or what? I've been here all my life. UT class of '86 myself and 2 kids at A&M at the moment. I have no idea who these guys are. But since my office is 1 block from the Alamo I know a little bit about that: It's where the Battle of the Flowers parade starts during Fiesta week....right?.
  14. Interesting comments you share however a profile is all there is to go by on a forum. If you noticed I asked how many jumps the OP had. If he has enough experience then that's great! Obviously though he wasn't experienced enough to call the day of jumping when his body was phyisically challanged. Something that most skydivers learn early on if they don't already have the wherewithal to do such. I'm sorry but the post is consistant with inexperience. IMHO of course.
  15. That's funny. My experience is completely opposite. I can plane out my Pilot much nicer than a Sabre 2 or Stiletto and I use a 2 stage flare....go figure
  16. I did the same Pilot vs Sabre 2 comparison and I totally agree. The Pilot is simply more fun to fly and the openings are softer, more consistant and end cell closure free.
  17. Couldn't help but notice: 1 year jumping and only an "A" license...in a wing suit? How many jumps do you have? Ummmm. I don't mean to flame you but maybe that has more to do with your mishap than lack of sleep.
  18. Hmmmmm.......That's what I thought when the same thing happened to me. I was close to a repack so we opened it up and it was wet inside although from the outside it seemed dry. I personally would not save a few bucks to chance it. Some people will tell you otherwise but I can think of at least one person that is dead most likely because of a wet reserve. This subject is a huge controversy mostly because the reserve manufactures don't test wet reserve canopies.
  19. Easier said than done. Actually, easier done than you think. If you live in an at-will employment State and are a small business owner, all you need is an employee handbook that differentiates issues for termination for cause and issues for progressive counseling and have all the employees sign a copy. Small Business Employee Manual Template Little bit of time could save you a lot of stress and heartache. Texas is an "at will" state and I do have employee handbooks but the problem is the training. I spend thousands of dollars in training each employee. I can't just get rid of one and get another. The other obstacle is the Texas Employment Commission. In most cases they award the employee that quit or is fired for any reason unemployment compensation. That money basically comes directly from my bank account.
  20. Easier said than done. Not to mention the fact that the next person will be the same. If I could only hire the people that really want to work: Illegal immigrants from Mexico.
  21. Why is it that so many employees have to take their nephews and nieces to the emergency room? And what about court that takes all day? And of course they didn't remember until the morning of. I am a small business owner that pays a very generous wage but that doesn't seem to make a difference. Is there anybody out there that can come to work other than to pickup a paycheck? What goes on in the minds of such a people?
  22. I love it to see a woman my age skydiving instead of the 20 years olds that think their hot shit but are totally clueless. When you've come as far as you have in life vskydiver you are what you make yourself to be. You may feel "old and frumpy" when you think about having kids in college but I have no doubt you felt hot and sexy when you were posing for your avatar photo.
  23. I used to do Kelly's embroidery for his Infinity rigs before he moved to Oregon! But I think you might be thinking of someone else. Ahhhh yes....you're the one.
