It's better to get bored under the PD than hurt under a Stiletto. In all honesty, I'm still a young newbie jumper under a fairly big square, and I'm having a blast. When I got really comfortable with normal landings I started playing with risers gradually (no hook turns for me thankyouverymuch). It's pretty fun to surprise people with what you can do on a bigger more docile canopy. How aggressively you fly the canopy can contribute to how quickly you get bored with it. I've jumped equal sized ellipticals a few times and had great landings under them, but at the same time don't think I am ready for one yet. Sure it turned out well, and I'm pretty sure I could probably learn to fly it without too many problems, but I still have a lot to learn, and the elliptical would amplify the mistakes I *will* make and make it more probable that I would hurt myself. But that's just my opinion. It's hard to fight downsize-itis -- Give them a sip of the darkside, and they just thirst for more.

OOC, what minor changes did you have done to it? -- Give them a sip of the darkside, and they just thirst for more.

I recently heard a story from SDSM a number of years ago (when GPS's only had numbers and no moving maps). As the story goes, there had been unfavorable weather for a number of weeks, and finally it was a light industrial haze and the pilot set up jump run (with GPS) hit the green light, people jumped, he landed and asked how everybody got down only to get puzzled looks from the people on the ground. "? We heard you call 1 minute to jump run, but nothing since then" when the phone rings... it was one of the skydivers calling from an airport 12 miles away.

Hrm, my rigger showed me that last night.. wierd -- Give them a sip of the darkside, and they just thirst for more.

Hrm, that is some scary stuff, because I have been stowing my excess through the risers also.. I usually insert the toggle through the loop (brake line inside) then take the excess to the outside, then through the riser, and around the toggle before stowing it. Will have to get some batteries for my digital camera to get a picture... -- Give them a sip of the darkside, and they just thirst for more.

Thanks Stan, I was just having issues b/c I'm still new to the protrack/jumptrack, and didn't realize jumptrack was set to fps by default and couldn't figure out how I got 300 on my pre-second speed dive. I thought I was ready to go pro.
-
Ahh, I just got it from Quade's post... fps, not mph... that is much less shocking.
-
Do you just get the max speed from the column in jump-track or am I missing something?
