  1. I have some friends with about 30 jumps traveling the east coast. They say no matter were they go noone allows them to jump together. They both have their A-license. When did this start happening? I was always allowed to jump with 1 other person starting out. Anyone think its a good idea?
  2. Keep in mind that is not necessarily a fully inflated, pressurized canopy. IE. if hit the ground in that configuration you will likely die.
  3. I forgot to add all you bit*$*$*$es better be ready to jump when I get back!!!
  4. You'd think all of you were from California with all the bitching going on. I'll try to keep this short. Jason is super heads up jumper on a level I don't think I've seen with anyone. He refused to teach anyone when he had over 200 BASE jumps, but did offer a lot of guidance if you were willing to be patient. A friend and I got somewhat mentored by him and the crew he frequents with largely because we were jumping on our own anyway. Seeing that refusal to take me early on makes me reluctant to take anyone at my 160 jump experience level and probably for a long while (not to mention I suck ). My personal consideration if I were to take someone would be how driven they are. This comes from the 2 years I spent debating if it was for me. If they aren't really ready to spend a gob of time and money on learning the necessary skills (packing, skydives with BASE canopies, pool exits, balloon jumps) then what would make me think they'd be ready to pay with their life? BASE jumping isn't a novelty jump the likes of what's to be had at Rantoul, most of the time it requires precise planning and execution with lots of backup plans if things go gnarly and they frequently do--quickly. I've seen a lot of people get into it with no concept of this, because skydiving so frequently goes well. This leads people into BASE way too early, and is probably the primary factor for 20 jump wonders taking even less experienced people. Most of the time they come out ok, but more often than not its pure luck getting them through it--I sure had a lot starting out. Still knowing everything in theory means you have to have the practical aspects as well, so things can still go wrong even if you do everything just right. On the flip side everyone makes mistakes and sometimes people pay for it dearly. Its the way of skydiving and BASE jumping. You won't truely know this fact until you see someone bounce, or have to help a friend in the car because he's paralyzed. I've done enough jumps with both groups to know they both have solid jumpers that care a lot about the sport. You guys should probably think about learning from one another and go jumping together Especially since I've seen the benefits to both groups first hand, and there's a lot to learn there.

    SL v Freefall

Personally I think you should have to freefall and SL every object to get your number. I had almost accomplished that when I got mine, but I hadn't freefell a B. I got to freefall that last object about 2 months after I applied for my number. SL's are often very fun jumps. I don't believe rollovers are real base jumps, although they can lead to very real object strikes.
  6. I've been playing it on an internet cafe computer. It runs about 30 fps, which is playable. I'm on the end of the delta labs I think.
  7. I found a ton of objects just near MS when I lived there last summer. Can't be too short of objects :)
  8. I'm back safe as well, can't say too safe as the plane ride back at night with no power over mountains was pretty sketchy. Had a bitchin open and flare jump this morningto end my 2 day trip. Nice meeting you guys ( spence and BPS ). Hopefully we didn't fuck up the Outback check too bad.
  9. I've not jumped the Flik, but have a bunch of jumps on Fox's, Ace & BJ with and without the composite. I have limited experience with the Troll, 6 jumps total, and loved it enough to buy it. It felt as strong in the flare as a composite BJ I jumped. I might just be a better canopy pilot now, but the way it flew and flared sold me. I had a awesome jump with one rolling on my back from 800 ft deploying at 5 seconds and still making a landing area that was really far. The thing will sink really well and glide incredibly far if you let it. I'm still shocked at the distance I can get with it. I'd jump everything and make your own decision.
  10. Here is the marvelous Illusion #3. I think its the 3rd one made.
  11. I too own one. Best camera helmet I've jumped so far, but most of my previous ones were largely hacks

    video helmet

The rat hat is a tunnel helmet, and I'd definitly not use it for BASE as a gnarly cliff strike would probably knock it off. Get the Illusion from Bonehead its their new helmet that probably isn't listed on their website yet. Has lots of protection and stock cutaway system. I've done 3 BASE jumps with it and its been great for my needs. Alot of the camera flyers at Perris are switching to it.

    Pacific NW Crew

After my short visit up there ending last night I have to say: "You F$*%&$ers are hard core!" Thanks for the great times of drinking and jumping even though the jumping only consisted of 1 E. Reminds me of why I love wilderness parachuting so much.

    Incident in Wa. ?

Who was it? I am going up there in 5 days to visit a friend who was talking about doing that.

    Aerial Delay

I think with a pin rig opening sequence would start sooner. My theory is that the pilot chute is using its energy to turn you thereby slowing things down a little. Yes this is very present in my first gainer video.

    Aerial Delay

I have a theory relating to throwing the PC while still on your back after a botched aerial, and was curious if anyone had discussed it. My guess is that when you pitch in that configuration that you add time to your delay for the PC to rotate you back around to center. Do the physics back this up? I know that one guy died last year after a seemingly normal delay after pitching on his back.
  17. I had three settings on my Fox as well. Actually it looked just like the photo...
  18. Depending on what type of flying you want to do you may or may not want to use your suit. If you will be doing RW bring your own. Otherwise if freeflying you will probably only be on your back so your suit should be fine. They also aren't the same company. The dropzone owns the tunnel as a franchise.
  19. Because while tunnel flying is a lot like skydiving there are a lot of notable differences with respect to flying, especially freeflying. You also don't have to worry about others, your spot or altitude, all of which are key points to being aware in freefall. I log it separate.
  20. That helmet is the Rat Hat which is more of a tunnel helmet. This is completely different than that.
  21. Don't forget about me. I was there in the tunnel controlling for all you guys. Too bad you had to do your session with Dominick though. Hopefully we'll find someone better for you next time.
  22. Didn't meet you in person but I was the one that you stuck your tongue out at in the control room of the tunnel! Congrats on 1000 jumps.
  23. Look for this new Bonehead helmet soon. Its a new camera helmet in the same class as the Optik, but with some great new features. It feels much more secure than the Optik due to a really nice henged jaw. It also dons its own cutaway system. The top mount portion is also larger for easier mounting of the SLR models. Very impressive
  24. I was admitting fault to them when I confronted them and they indicated that they had not. They saw me for a good amount of time and made no effort to move.
