  1. I got a skydive with the pants + jacket today. Pretty insane forward speed. I felt like the suit was flying me vs the other way around. More practice would be nice. My vertical descent was much higher than normal for my tracking, granted I've gained a little weight and the jacket didn't fit too well. I will probably buy a pair. I exited over 1.5 miles away and made it back and then some.
  2. I almost pissed my pants looking at those. Great job!
  3. Since the hurricane is going to hit where I am on the Gulf Coast dead on, I'm going to head on up there tomorrow. Should be in the area this weekend.

  5. Jesus!!! How have you been? I haven't seen you in like 3 years or something like that! Hope you are doing well. Has Joey been coming around?
  6. I've always been under the impression that tresspassing as it exists in the US isn't present there. You are forbbiden to tresspass on structures, ie homes, but its perfectly fine to be on other peoples property. Kjerag is private property if I remember correctly.
  7. Friday's are good for me too. I need to reline my Velo. Hopefully I'll have that done and be there a week from Friday! Assuming there will be a group. When did Marion get back?
  8. I'll be back in NC in two weeks. I have about 30 min in Flyaway and about 5 hours freeflying in Skyventure. I'll write up a review here when I finally get up that way! The pictures look awesome! How did Joao like it?
  9. No idea... I haven't been on the Ortega since I've lived here. Excellent view in that area though. Wasn't much help was it
  10. You should realize he said: He'd be lucky if the thing didn't explode on him.
  11. Qualified instruction is great as they do offer lots of background information, as well as have the ability to show the jumper if they are digging out of the corner. Newer swoopers certainly need to see this if they are doing it over and over. It is in my experience that qualified instruction does not drill into the slow progression regarding turns, as well as provide the necessary experience needed. Slow progression, which I think is the most important part is straight ins, double fronts, 90s, 180s, and then onto 270s and bigger turns. At each interval you should do A LOT of jumps. This does not mean five 90 degree turns and then do a 180 degree turn. It means at least a hundred. If you do this on every new you will likely develop a site picture that can later save your life when you are digging out of the corner on bigger turns. Once you are able to do 270s you can downsize, but then you have to start over. This means when you are doing 270s at 1.3 and you downsize to a 1.5 you have to start the progression over from scratch because you will not recognize the corner anymore on that canopy and you will bounce. I think I am alive at this point solely because even though I was a terrible canopy pilot at 400 jumps with a too high wingloading. I still stuck to that progression.
  12. Yeah PeeJ you rocked. PeeJ and Colin both cried at the exit point at a Potato State bridge. Colin was crying a little harder than PeeJ when he realized I had packed for him. I'll try to make it to South Africa in the next year. I'm leaving Perris in about a week and a half.

I want one to anyone who will give one. Email me at my name @ dropzone.com. Thanks!
  14. This is a total guess... But I'm guessing the planform area. The 175 Smart packs much smaller than the PD176. In addition the posted pack volume is about 100 in^3 smaller.
  15. Nick: It's basically a difference in measurement there are two types: Planform Area: Defined as the product of the finished chord times the finished span of the canopy. Projected Area: The area of the inflated canopy as view from above, perpendicular to the chord line at the centerline of the parachute. Due to canopy curvature and cell inflation bulging the projected area is always smaller than the planform area. I think PD reserves are measured in projected area whereas mains are measured in planform area. Since you are probably jumping a rig with a 176 and a 190 main they are really close to the same measurement.
  16. I imagine its for a variety of reasons. The most important one being the reserves are measured differently, so they are marginally larger than the size. I know that to be the case because I work there.

    Late or Lazy

I want to climb 1000 ft when I get back so I hope you are ready.
  18. I'll try to be there around then. I need a rig though. Mine won't be ready till after :(
  19. Tell Ross and Dawn hello and to drink 2 hurricanes for me!!!
  20. This could easily have been: Maybe all of us should just do solos? I thought the point of A license was you demonstrated enough ability to jump by yourself and not kill anyone else like was previously stated.

  22. Yeah, you have actually made the DZ lose revenue quite a few times when everyone has left to go huck something.
