    Congrats! Shirtail cut or do they still even do that? The Wright brothers signed off my solo. And the FAA, are the slowest f's as far as pushing some paperwork through.

    Besides some of the sites mentioned, are you an AOPA member? Exceptional resource. From aircraft valuation to title search help..etc.. Be aware, there are plenty of scammers out there in the plane selling arena.

    It was set up for "ferry". Extended range tanks were installed. The range listed in the article was for normal range. Something happened and it easily could have been a venting issue, or a leak of unknown origin, etc, etc, etc... Most people jump to conclusions, especially the media.

    Any report on "why" he ran out? Excess fuel feed, leak, etc? He's a ferry pilot, I'm sure he started with the required amount. edit to add: Nice ditch!

    Many pilots are totally unaware of what the tiny parachute emblem on the sectional means. True story. Few years ago, I went flying with a whuffo friend that owns a Baron, went tooling around Texas. He's blasting right up on a DZ. I said ah, hey let's give that DZ a wide berth. He thought...I was crazy for that suggestion. He had no clue....at 180 kts. There are many of them out there....just like that guy. Yep, see and avoid.

    I've heard of them called "assault" landings. But tactical is another word that was thrown around for them.

    Does Lowe's really have this ??? Damn, ever since I bought my house, I've been there a dozen times each weekend. Think they'll give me a retroactive discount ? Lowe's and Home Depot give the 10%. Although Lowe's will allow the 10% vet discount on top of a sale discount. HD doesn't.

    My understanding is that flightaware presently (or until very recently) allowed the suppression of IFR filed plans for "privacy" reasons. The change that either has been made or is being considered would change that to only allow suppression for "security" reasons--a narrower category probably. Yes, believe you're right. I've plugged in a Lear the other day, and no info was given.

    Been in effect for a while. www.flightaware.com is one site at least. IFR filed plans only I think?

    He didn't lower the nose (still prolly 100 kts) until after the blue dot. That's only about 1500 ft remaining. Anybody know his approx. touchdown point?

    Looks like he got rid of it in an open area, hopefully. Amazing how much punishment the P-51 took and still held together, from the looks of the video.

    The video shows the P-51 having a little time to level off, and then it nosedived. One still shot shows the ground, the Mustang and the pilot with still opening parachute. Low low, but not sure of actual altitude.
