Well, if you need something to do, I have to get my house ready for an open house tomorrow. You're welcome to come and help! Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea. -Robert A. Heinlein

It's bad karma, I know, but I was hoping for rain this weekend since I can't jump! Misery loves company, and all that. Instead, it's a beautiful day, and I keep hearing the jump plane going over. I'll choose option #1 as the worst, because at least with #2 I'm at the dz, hanging out, having fun. Variety. I love that every day is something different. Weekdays only! I worked shift work for so long, I didn't know what I was missing. I love having weekends off. Phone flirting. Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea. -Robert A. Heinlein

Can't say I hate my job. I hate knowing that I could be doing so much more, that I'm capable of something bigger and better, and that I keep missing/losing/not seeing the opportunities to do so. Holy Shit... Good work clearing that. My heart is pounding just from watching. Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea. -Robert A. Heinlein

(begin heavy panting) Scotish guys in kilts... (continue heavy panting) Nice way to start the morning! (Still panting) I'm a McFadyen of Lochbuie on my mom's side, and a Connolly on my dad's. Plenty of Scot/Irish blood there! The McFadyen motto: Vinceri vel mori. To conquer or die. (Starting to drool at thought of men in kilts) How am I supposed to concentrate on work now? Agreed. Go with dad. It may be painful not to jump, but just think of how much he'll appreciate it, knowing that you wanted to jump and chose to be with him instead. Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea. -Robert A. Heinlein

I keep so busy at work that I don't have time to yearn for the sky... I do that after work! It's a good thing the dz is only open on the weekend. I'd be a basket case knowing that I could be jumping right now... I spend most of my waking hours thinking about skydiving, and have since jump #1. WARNING! The obsession only gets stronger. Work for me is marketing produce to grocery stores. Ooh. So NOT exciting. I also write, but not in a professional(=published/paid) way. I really need to make a change, I just can't decide on what to do. Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea. -Robert A. Heinlein

It was pretty uneventful. Followed instructions, almost stood it up, lost my balance and went to my knees. Now, my first landing on my own gear... the thought that stands out in my memory is 'Damn this is fast!' Couldn't believe the difference in speed and misjudged my height and the responsiveness of my 175 compared to the student gear. About altimeters... did IAD. No alti until 10 second delays. And I admit that I didn't so much as glance at it the first time I wore one. Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea. -Robert A. Heinlein

Woohoo! Congrats on the B. Lets see... Missed a 50th B-day party Friday night at the dz when family stuff came up. Sounds like it was a goood time Spent all day Saturday at the dz. Planned on two jumps, but when Norm offered to do a coach2 jump with me I couldn't say no and did a third. Very very sweet jump! Although, you know how a brand new foal struggles and fights to stand up, and they are all wobbly and uncontrolled when they do? I feel like that, especially when I'm in the air with someone like Norm! Hit the pub for awhile that night, crashed out and got up early to go back to the dz. Told my hubby I was just going to hang out, wasn't going to jump. (So why then did I bring my gear, hmmmm?) Couldn't resist, did three more jumps. Only a few more and I'll have completed everything I need for my 'A'. Yay! Today I'm still completely bushed, and sore all over. What a great weekend.

You too?

1:6:1 1 = big long snivel. So nice and soft, but kinda freaky while I waited... and waited... Pulled before my coach, and ended up well below him. 6 kickbutt jumps, including two of the necessary coach jumps for my 'A'. Slowly but surely taking care of those CoP requirements. Beer for jumping in a borrowed jumpsuit with booties. Nice. When I eventually buy a jumpsuit, it will have booties! (begin pout) Nothing I do works! I can't get it to play no matter what I do, from any source. (/ pout) I'll keep trying. And I"ll watch for it in the video vault... hint hint Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea. -Robert A. Heinlein

Michele, take a deep breath... okay, smile! It'll be awesome! Someone please tape it and post it for those of us who exist without ESPN2. Please! Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea. -Robert A. Heinlein

Naw, I like the memory of it being the first. Damn, every time I close my eyes I'm back up there, gawking at Kiwi. He is an awesome coach, I always feel so comfortable with him. Also starting to stiffen up. For something that lasts under 5 minutes, this is a serious workout! remove your mind from the gutter... 21:3:(shrug) 21 jars of peaches canned on Saturday cause my repack/wash job wasn't ready. 3 kick butt jumps today! Have I ever mentioned that I'm really addicted to this? Started doing coach jumps for my A. Now, since I did IAD I've never had anyone up close to me during a jump. That is the coolest feeling! Two nice clean docks. Needed three so I'll be doing it over, but I really don't mind. No official beers owed, since that was just a coach jump, but it was my first time docking on someone. Guess that makes it my first two-way. I'll be drinking chamomile tea to calm down before bed tonight. I am SO pumped! Started looking for gear while I was still on student status. Gear rental at the local dz is pricey, and I didn't want to spend $ renting what I'd rather own. Found a complete used rig on the dropzone.com classifieds (under $3000 CAN), tried it out as soon as I was cleared to solo, and bought it a couple weeks later. Course, I lucked out finding great gear, just my size, in great shape, from a gal who lives just 1 1/2 hours away, who was really really patient while I scraped together the cash. Thanks Donna! Yes, but only occasionally. My hubby is really into climbing, and I go along with him when I can. We are surrounded by great cliffs and beautiful sites, so we don't have to go far. He tends to go during the week, though, when I'm at work. I'd like to do more, and really learn how to climb instead of winging it. I have no technique at all. And I'm really slow. What's the most vivid memory about your first jump?
Snowbird replied to prepheckt's topic in The Bonfire
My first jump was IAD from a C-182. Probably the feeling of being in limbo - I wasn't falling, I didn't feel any pressure from my canopy opening, just felt like I was hanging in midair. It blew my mind. Then under canopy, looking at the valley and lakes and wishing I could stay right there for a long, long time, dancing with the wind. And like everyone else has said, the instant knowledge that I would be doing this again and again and again...
