I made a clicky! I made a clicky! (I've always wanted to do that... see, you can teach an old dog new tricks!!!)
-
http://aerodynamics.com/Ground_Zero/PAGES/Nitron.htm did it work? Thanks Hookitt for the pointers!

r2hubert, Don't forget about the Nitron... same class as the other canopies you're describing... contact me regarding demos... let me know where you'll be jumping, it's quite possible that demos are coming to a dz/boogie near you. The Nitron is a higher performance 9 cell canopy, with a few interesting features... winglets... meshed endcell openings... continuous lines... see our website for specifics... (sorry I don't know how to do the clicky thingy, help me out here somebody!) http://aerodynamics.com/Ground_Zero/PAGES/Nitron.htm Pack volume on the Nitron 120 is 349 c.i.... (one note on packvolume versus material used... We build these canopies with Performance Textiles SoarCoat fabric...same as the PD Stilletto... the Cobalt is built with Gelvanor fabric as are the German Nitros... Pack volume on the Nitro 120 is 394 c.i.... the Gelvanor fabric does pack larger in the same application. From my experience the Gelvanor seems to perform and last as well, just is somewhat bulkier...) call or email for demos... Chris Martin Precision Aerodynamics chris@precision.net 423-949-4688

Kim, I'll be there too... (and I'll try to sneak outa my real job as much as possible to come play with the baby birds!) Chris

how many total jumps? And what is your dz elevation? Chris
-
For best idea on size, lay any canopy down on the carpet, spread it out , then stretch the "other canopy" out on top of it... This is how any person compares "true" size. Size does not always define performance or flight characteristics. Test jump any canopy in a relative current size, then you decide which is best for you. With main canopies, Precision and PD are thinking much the same, (and always have), other manufacturers have only clouded the size issue. Physically measure the canopy to see for yourself. Chris

How much difference in loadings?
GroundZero replied to Jessica's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Bruno, Haven't you todl me you're 200+ lbs... that'll make a difference (in addition to additional drag if you're taller and a bit more exposed...) Chris -
How much difference in loadings?
GroundZero replied to Jessica's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I find that at top speeds it's a little about weight and mostly about drag... I'm in the mid 150's weight wise... (compare horsepower to weight loadings here)... The biggest difference is drag... on first few runs i too was finding mid 140's, then by burrying my chin itn the tank bag I was upper 140's, by squeezing my knees tighter into the tank, another few mph, then point toes aft another mph, then flattening back and pushing ass more rearward another mph. Look at parasitic drag on an airplane... I could not believe the little 108 hp veri-easy outclimbing and passing me in my 230 hp 182... let's see, i forget how it goes... (in overcoming existing drag) to double speed, you need to square the horsepower... something like that. Same reason Rutan doesn't add hp, he simply cleans up the drag. Chris I love to drag race the 250 lb guys on 900's!! Smoke em all day long on my little 600... (but i also cheat a bit, the bike's been tricked too.) -
Get out Saturday if you can, weather looks best on Saturday (and we party Saturday nite!) Yea, we'll have two packing tents set up. Chris

I'll see if I can get some frame grabs of his exits from the westwind...

GroundZero replied to Bazza's topic in Safety and Training
i've always reminded less experienced tandem people: "When you think of reaching in, it's time to reach out further". Chris -
Rob, You must've jumped it in Molalla? p.s. Beezy is finally gonna fly the hand mount this weekend, I'll let you know how he fares! Chris

How much difference in loadings?
GroundZero replied to Jessica's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
well i'll be damned... and now i find out you have an fzr-600... What year? Mine's a '93 Chris I suspect you're lighter than me... but I've still seen mine over 150mph! -

Eric, Did you ever jump the one with the killer stereo system in it... I think he sold it to Jim West? The one with the JBL subwoofers and cd player? We flew that in Tullahoma a few years back after he was bringing it back from Molalla, OR. I'll bet that is the one you've seen. Chris

perfectly executed waivers ... The Lawyers wanted to save those for the "trump card"... Never used... during 2.1 million dollars worth of legal fees... Who's calling the shots in the legal cases... the plaintiffs and defendants... NOT! Next time I'll fire my lawyers sooner (last time I waited til I ran out of money) and present the waivers during the discovery process...
