damn.... that took me 7 seconds to say.... at 176 fps that translates into ~1200 feet before the reserve pilot chute is launched.... oy! what happened to the old days when you simply executed emergency procedures... and I was origanally trained on shot and a halfs... Chris

hehehehe (or in spanish... jajajajaja) While the crossbraced canopies once attracted only the "elite" canopy pilots, today these canopies can be flown by experienced pilots with good judgement as everyday kit. We've tamed openings, and a person with good skills can enjoy these for everyday jumps. Judgement is the most important arrow in any pilots quiver. Chris

in the morning... coffee, then a little more coffee... followed up by more... then a taste of 100 low lead and/or jet A as I preflight. fly/jump all day... begging for water, interupted by a taste of that nutricious nicotine... then as the sun sets, chug a big water and begin the real nutrients: a cold beer... followed by the most important nutrient....sleep... then start it all over again who eats at the dz.... sorry, they don't let me do that. I follow instructions well according to Mrs. Johnson, my first grade teacher... Chris

I've always had a problem with that song... it goes... "You're so vain, you probably think this song is about you...." Well it is about him, what are you trying to say Carly? Thank God... I'm now listening to John Lee Hooker singing "In the Evening when the sun goes down".

Tandem Instructors: Helmets?
GroundZero replied to Hooknswoop's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
There will be a proposal before the board to create a BSR requiring helmets for tandem Instructors and passengers (as well as AFFI's). 1. Tandem Instructors, do you wear a helmet on tandem jumps? Yes.. 2. Why or why not? to protect my hearing (love my music, but as I lose my hearing I lose my love for my music... huge crime! ) And to prevent the worst damage from riser slap. 3. If yes, what type of helmet? frap hat... can't check the drogue and such very well with a protec or other hard hat... the big container stops my head swivel. 4. Do you have your passenger wear a helmet? Yes, frap hat... for their protection, (hearing and otherwise... makes a good puke bucket if needed on the ride up...I take care of the airplane owners too.) 5. Why or why not? See above... 6. If yes, what type? see above... 7. Have you changed your helmet policy for tandems? no 8. If yes, how? N/A 9. What rigs are you rated on? Strong, Vector, Eclipse 10. How many tandem jumps do you have? ~900 in the back and almost 300 up front. Chris -
Anything we can do to help... let us know. Sometimes it is tough to keep up with phones, emails, recdot and this forum. but try all methods of communication... getting it solved and correctly is most important to us too... as much as it is to you too. By the way... at Precision we always number our lines from the endcell in... i.e. A1 is the line attached at the stabilizer side , the larger numbers work toward the inside... (A5 is center cell of a 9 (or 27) cell. We truely prefer to do maintenance at the plant... for 2 reasons. 1. (most important!) By maintaining canopies that are in the field, under real life use, wear and tear, abuse and neglect, we get a better understanding of what happens outside our microscopic, very controlled enviroment. We have learned more about canopies from everyone out there. Please consider using our facilities for repairs, relines, and any other inspection needed. We have an inside interest. Let us put that to your advantage. We build the finest canopies, both in design and workmanship... Let us help you jumping the best in the best shape. 2. Your repairs are additional revenue. We like that. More revenue helps us continue to improve our/your products. Anyone, feel free to contact me directly for assistance at any time through any medium... (phone, e-mail, these forums, instant messaging, etc.). By the way, your riggers out there, (Like Rob Warner and Ryan Gifford, among others), go outa their way to stay abreast with respect to specs, methods, etc. I talk to these guys and others like them daily. If you have a rigger that seems uninformed, politely move on to someone that can handle your maintenance. I smoke a pack a day, drink my fair share and drive my vehicles way too fast. The car has fair tires but I tend to wear them out on curbs first. They need thicker rubber on the sidewalls. A good friend told me today a good thing.... It's not the destination..... it's the JOURNEY.... what a fun drive it has been. I'm glad I don't have to do the "59" thing...... 61 will be the best year! Watch out Rantoul! Here we come. CHris -
Batwing 116 Line specs... A1: 275 A2: 277 A3,4,5: 276 B1: 281 B2: 284 B3,4,5: 280 C1: 297 C2: 294 C3,4,5: 293 D3,4,5:312 Chris sure we'll share any information you ask for... When we sell a lineset , we will install the lineset at no charge, then also include free inspection that almost always include repairing a broken stitch here or there, also for no additional charge.

hey... we've got a bunch of VX's around here too!! Chris Great weekend of jumping here in Tennessee, hope it was the same in Texas!

try them both and decide which you prefer... Chris Precision Aerodynamics demo's available 423-949-4688 chris@NOSPAMprecision.net

Bad mojo to do that Quade... Thought you'd been around a bit longer to know better... Chris

wrong... Try it with a canopy that flies straight.... Chris
-
a general rule of thumb that I use with spectra... count on one inch of shrinkage per hundred jumps... (for the control lines and endcell lines- where the slider does the most damage). Chris

nice canopy... earlier version of the Nitro (Nitron as marketed by Precision) try it before you pay for it.... then you'll want it... Chris

What did you learn this weekend?
GroundZero replied to superstu's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I learned that when the first two-good-weather-day weekend comes to Tullahoma Tennessee, so does the AEDC Airshow which closes down our airport (and DZ)... Oh well, can't complain too much, got to see my hero, (Patty Wagstaff!), Jimmy Franklin, his son and that incredible JET powered Waco...WOW! other small fry airshow acts included the Golden Knights and The Aeroshell T-6 team, lots of nice airplanes, C-54, B-25, P-51 (woody-time!), oh yea, B-17, and the new stuff... what'da ya call 'em? uh F/A-18, F-15... the F-86 was pretty too, (gotta love those classics). Kinda sucked that we didn't pay anything... no one paid, free for everyone. Guess ya gotta love Tullahoma, even on a pretty weekend that we can't jump... Nice Loadstall, C-47, Pitts, Eagle Team, too many to name... fun people to party with too. Nice weekend in Tullahoma, wish I could have jumped, but the canoeing was fun too... kinda nice to spend entire days with my wife and kids!! cHRIS -
sorry i was looking for my money, thought you had found it.... Chris

The line drawings for the PD Slinks are quite clear. I witnessed 3 people, (two of which are riggers), study the drawing for about half an hour. This was at Quincy a couple of years ago and also the end of the day... tired, hot and beers nearby... With no previous experience, it took the team some time to agree on the intended method of locking the Slink. There is room for interpretation on the line drawing if only a quick glance is made. Once the team correctly assembled the links, all agreed it was rather obvious. We went to great lengths to make our instructions simple and straightforward when we took photographs for the Wrap-It Links instructions, yet we have seen many people hook them up incorrectly. So we decided to start jumping them installed incorrectly... two turns instead of three...one turn instead of three... simply around the stop (tab or ring)... they all held through even hard openings... we weren't brave enuf to try them with the loop only partially over the ring/tab!) We pull tested the soft links, (both ours and theirs), and stainless links of varying sizes... all soft links broke at over 3000 lbs., proud to say that ours with the 3 turns broke around 3800 lbs... plenty strong to be used for both mains and reserves. BUT, please follow the instructions! http://aerodynamics.com/Wrap-It/wrap-itv3.pdf Chris Precision Aerodynamics

Tipping in skydiving is greatly appreciated by the underpaid professionals. Seldom do they see a tip and typically the tip is small (10-20 bucks). If you feel the job was worth more than the charge, by all means do... (however, if the person is "asking" for a tip, smile as you walk on by.) Chris
