  1. I can't wait to see the mathematics from someone that knows more than me, but I believe is has something to do with weight vs. surface area. For instance, my gf is about 115lbs and im a little over 200lb, not including gear. Even though I'm almost twice as heavy, I doubt I have twice the surface area as her. Which would explain why I have to dearch like a mofo while giving her "arch" signs so I can keep her in sight "Are you coming to the party? Oh I'm coming, but I won't be there!" 2. At Couch Freaks this year I had a brake fire on 2 jumps in a row. Same side. It had happened once before about 50 jumps ago on the same side. I had a couple riggers look at it. None saw anything out of the ordinary. I would stow my excess line by running it straight up the 2 keepers on the back of the riser. Never had a problem doing it this way. I don't exactly know if the excess line might have been coming loose and somehow snagging the toggle or somethin, but the problem seems to be solved now that I double it up and run it from top to bottom. Just some food for thought if anyone has tested this kinda thing. I jump a nitron 170 loaded about 1.33. The first one worried me since I've never been on my back before, but it calmed down. The second one I noticed while the canopy was still sniveling so I got my hangs up and straightened out the risers before anything radical happened. "Are you coming to the party? 3. I've spent about 75-100 jumps working on my hd now. I'm not sure about the normal speed of progression, but when you are from a small cessna dz where absolutely no one can fly head down, it makes the learning curve pretty shallow. The only people I personally know that fly hd only show up at boogies, and all 3 of them primarily fly daffy, so likewise that is what I started to learn first. I am pretty comfortable in it and can change my fallrate pretty easily now, although sometimes having a problem getting REALLY slow. I've gotten cartwheel transitions somewhat down, to the point where I don't really slide during it. The problem now is moving forward and closing the gap. I've been playing with the back leg but don't see much progress with it. And like what alot of people say, it seems like I try to stick it so far out there that i get asymmetrical in my core and stiffen up, then shit gets all wobbly My question is, is it possible to use your hips, like in the straddle position, but in the daffy position too for forward movement, or should I go spend some time broadening my leg position and learn to fly straddle too? I know the couple times when I'd be sitting and a hd flyer docked on me, I notice they close big gaps with their hips in the straddle position then revert to a daffy style when they are in close. Ultimately I want that ability. But in the mean time, just curious if hip movement was worth experimenting with in the daffy position. "Are you coming to the party? 4. My Icon has the handle sewn to a stiff board piece (feels kinda like a tuck tab). That stiffener is sewn to the PC just like UPT does it. One side of the stiffener is in the spandex pouch, and the other slips under the bridle protection fabric. It keeps it really secure and doesn't flop around like the Wings handle does (I've seen the same as in the "bad" picture). "Are you coming to the party? Oh I'm coming, but I won't be there!" 5. I agree to an extent, but posting to complain about other people's posting sure as hell doesn't get anything accomplished either. If you don't want to read 36 pages of posts, don't. That simple. I myself find it interesting to see how much the company has actually grown. And posting to this thread will keep it high on the list. It stopped me from going to a skyride affiliated dz, as I'm sure other people have been saved the same way. I'm only 1 person, but that's less tandem money in their pockets. I think that is a positive step in doing something about skyride. Telling everybody they're wasting time by posting, while you do it yourself, has no positive result of any kind. 6. I couldn't tell you a damn thing about pricing, but that black one with the whole logo is downright sweet! "Are you coming to the party? Oh I'm coming, but I won't be there!" Flying Hellfish #828 Dudist #52
  7. I'm pretty sure he means get a suit instead of using t-shirts for upper body drag. I know first hand, t-shirts can cause problems. My jacket to match my funny looking freefly pants is on the way
  8. I'm sitting here looking at the engineer sitting directly across from me, and its blatantly obvious he has no game either. Now I'm not saying I have some, but I consider myself fairly normal and communicable and I like to do normal things. This guy is talking about what he did over the weekend. He hurried home friday from to work to guess what....work on his neat little program. He worked on it all weekend, stopping occasionally to eat but that's it. It's not even work related, its a program he is writing for fun. That is a little strange to me, seeing as I had a normal weekend of skydiving, going out to the bars, dinner and a movie, etc etc. So its not necessarily EVERY engineer, but a good majority of us are just plain nerds with no people skills "Are you coming to the party? Oh I'm coming, but I won't be there!" Flying Hellfish #828 Dudist #52
  9. I know of thousands of people who come up with better marketing plans. They're called small businesses. And suprisingly, most try to be decent and ethical. At what point in your life did you really become stupid enough to think that skyride is a good marketing plan? When they make money? I'm not even a marketing major and I know there is more to it than straight income. I hope you had a sibling that was charged with taking over the brains in your family. "Are you coming to the party? 10. I can't comment on Safires besides what I've seen others do with them. I have jumped a Pilot 188 for over a hundred jumps and a sabre 2 190 a couple times. Pilot pros: OPENINGS. Not a single one of mine could be any better. I really liked the responsiveness and predictable turns. It seemed to build up speed very naturally. Flare. I liked being able to flare different ways. A sharper flare would really plane it out for surfing-related stuff, while a slow deliberate flare started a little higher was nice for accuracy landings and precision. Great glide ratio for long spots. Nice colored packing tabs for those who still don't know how to flake a canopy Pilot cons: The only thing I really didn't like was the short recovery arc. But that isn't neecessarily a bad thing. There's my opinion of the Pilot with my experience. I'd recommend it to anyone as an intermediate canopy, but not really one to learn high performance landings with. As for my small amount of experience with the Sabre 2, I wasn't a fan of the openings, but some people get consistently good ones. Probably just one of those things. It felt about the same with inputs, maybe a little snappier, although the recovery arc is a bit longer. Great powerful flare too. "Are you coming to the party? Oh I'm coming, but I won't be there!" 11. My 32nd jump I sure did. Under a PD230. Simply yanked a toggle down hard and fast. The turn started and then I quit turning while the canopy kept going. Probably what Brian Germain refers to as "not giving your body time to catch up with the parachute". That was my lesson in initiating hard spiraling turns slowly, then speeding up once the turn is started. "Are you coming to the party? Oh I'm coming, but I won't be there!" 12. I asked this in gear and rigging too, but thought some CRW dogs might have additional info. A jumper at my dz recently bought a Flight Concepts Express 175 for canopy work. He emailed the manufacturer for a manual, and they said they do not have one, since it was custom built for CRW teams only. I believe he is mainly curious about packing style, but his rigger wanted the actual manual. Any tips or info would be appreciated. *Edited to add "manual" to title* "Are you coming to the party? Oh I'm coming, but I won't be there!" Flying Hellfish #828 Dudist #52

  14. The funnel would definitely be YOUR fault! "Are you coming to the party? Oh I'm coming, but I won't be there!" Flying Hellfish #828 Dudist #52
  15. Why do you have an attitude every time you respond to someone? He was simply asking you how you know he is competent, because you assumed it. I know people who have 450 jumps, claim they can swoop by toggle whipping 180's, and are dying to jump at that WL. Does that mean they are competent just because they claim to be? So if he is anything like these people, he is definitely reckless. If not, then great and I'm glad he is progressing safely. On the original topic, I have jumped both and the Sabre2 arc is definitely longer. I did not mind my Pilots recovery, and I prefer its openings fo sho! But if you want a longer arc between those 2, the sabre is the way to go. "Are you coming to the party? Oh I'm coming, but I won't be there!" Flying Hellfish #828 Dudist #52
  16. We had a 2-plane group jump into a party put together by the Kansas Medical Center. All 8 jumps were hop n pops. Staggered openings and single filed landings. A couple of us hit the tarp, while everyone was extremely close to it. All great landings! The last jumper had the big flag (I forgot how big) And once he deployed it a biplane with smoke trailing circled around him 5 or 6 times. At about 1000 ft the national anthem started. Very cool moment. Towards the end, right when he landed, 3 of these biplanes with smoke performed a low fly over. Perfect timing! Definitely the coolest moment I've seen! All around great demo, and the crowd loved it. "Are you coming to the party? Oh I'm coming, but I won't be there!" Flying Hellfish #828 Dudist #52
  17. I'm 228 lbs out the door, so I had the same problem early on. Suprisingly, relaxing will help alot. But like everyone else said, its about body position. I used regular jump suits and learned to dearch and slow down while staying stable. My suit now (Bev Suit in my avatar) isn't anywhere near loose and baggy. On the other hand, you can kind of see in the picture that I have 3'' wings under my arms. Kind of like a camera suit but not as big. I highly recommend them for fast fallers. You can really change your speed alot just by putting your elbows in or out. Now being a coach, we have a student who is close to 240 out the door. When he arched hard I had to sit down to him. Since then, he's learned to slow his heavy arse down, and now hangs with the rest of us. Spend some tunnel time or jumps on fall rate and relaxing, and you'll be right there. 18. Great idea....if I had anything else to say. That said, my opinion for best all around rig is the G4. I like damn near everything about them. "Are you coming to the party? Oh I'm coming, but I won't be there!" Flying Hellfish #828 Dudist #52
  19. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3521426#3521426 this cracks me up! Nice post there sport! So why get defensive when someone else brings up a problem with your rig that they have noticed?? Jesus get a grip "Are you coming to the party? Oh I'm coming, but I won't be there!" Flying Hellfish #828 Dudist #52
  20. Ok let's step thru this since you can't catch on very quickly: Ya actually I do. Cuz I said it. What? Maybe you dont have a clue what you're talking about. I wasn't theorizing anything. Right. Since you know me and all. Judging from your many recent posts, I'd say you aren't very intelligent either. How that affects this discussion I'm not sure. Your personal attacks are because you immaturely get defensive about the rig you have. Big fucking deal its a rig. Get over it. You are correct this time. They are fantastic rigs and I like them alot...just like any rig on the market today. They are pretty similar anymore, excluding a couple. I get your attempted logic, but there aren't only 2 rigs on the market. So change the subject of the thread or deal with some people liking rigs that you don't. Again, they are all great rigs. So are they the only good ones, especially for freeflying like this thread title is about? Better question, do you know a damn thing about gear in general? No? You've hinted at that. So are Infinitys or Voodoos bad rigs too since they aren't on your little top list? Why can I not talk about problems I've seen with rigs? Is that not the discussion here? Mirage is a fantastic rig, I agree, but the Icon is a fine rig as well. And sweetheart, I realize you have limited knowledge of gear, but spandex and the strap I'm talking about are entirely different things. Go do some research and find me one bad or unsafe thing about the new icon rigs. Just like every rig on the market today, you won't find anything. I'm sorry you feel that way, but thanks for making my delivery time shorter. As stated above, you probably could have worn an older one, as they were pretty uncomfortable yes. Truth is they have changed and mine is as comfortable as any on the market. I never once claimed one rig was better than the other. Unlike you I have the ability to control myself when someone brings up a problem with what I jump. "Are you coming to the party? Oh I'm coming, but I won't be there!" Flying Hellfish #828 Dudist #52
  21. Sometimes such a short delivery time can contradict quality... My freefly coach just bought a brand new mirage last month. On its 7th jump the elastic band along the lateral that holds the hip rings tight against you snapped on the loading deck. I'm not talking in a general sense, but no rig is perfect. I bought my Icon in January and have had zero problems with it. It stays snug, no leg strap problems, the side walls stand straight up when I'm packing it, never have had a flap open, etc etc. All rigs have pros and cons, but the cons you listed on the Icon might have been older problems, as they seem to be corrected on mine. 22. Wow nevermind. It seems that the Saphire 2 was done with PD measurements, while the Saphire 1 was the other method that adds about 8% to the real size. Question answered! "Are you coming to the party? Oh I'm coming, but I won't be there!" Flying Hellfish #828 Dudist #52
  23. Does anyone know if Icarus has switched to PD's measurement system yet, and if so, when they did? A friend of mine has a Safire 2 and we are curious if the placard size was measure with their system or the current PD method. "Are you coming to the party? Oh I'm coming, but I won't be there!" 24. I have used a shoestring before, but be careful with the aglet (the plastic end). It can be kind of a pain to pull out of the closing loop, and I've read here before about it causing a total when it got stuck in the loop. "Are you coming to the party? 25. Lol you sound like a real winner So how about that Skydive Arizona post earlier? Anyone have any new info there? "Are you coming to the party? Oh I'm coming, but I won't be there!" Flying Hellfish #828 Dudist #52
