Besides the casing and rechargable, is there much of a difference in the readout or software layout compared to the N2, or are they basically the same? I may need a new toy "Are you coming to the party? Oh I'm coming, but I won't be there!" Flying Hellfish #828 Dudist #52

I cant freefly, swoop, or even low pull. I gotta make my name known in the world somehow! "Are you coming to the party? Oh I'm coming, but I won't be there!" Flying Hellfish #828 Dudist #52

I just ordered some useless crap, a skytie, and 12 yards of 750lb vectran yesterday. It shipped out already, so far so good. I left a little message in the comment box asking them to send me the whole roll for the same price, but we'll see what happens "Are you coming to the party? Oh I'm coming, but I won't be there!" I personally hate pepper and the like, but an instructor at the dz grows peppers in his back yard, very hot ones I hear, and he routinely brings bags out whenever he shows up. Most people swarm them and they're gone in a hurry. I found that, for me, eating hot food like that inhibits my natural ability to stink up the plane, so I refrain from any and all spicy food on jump days Gotta make my presence known!! They are both altimeters. But the N3 has the ability to be used as an audible if need be. Personally I like my N2 over any others I have used. Analog faces are great, but I love the digital readout and accuracy of the Neptune, especially under canopy. Plus canopy alarms can be really handy if used correctly. Both give detailed jump details, such as exit alti, deployment alti, speeds, etc and both keep electronic logbooks. It really comes down to the decision of analog face vs what I mentioned above. Everyone has their own opinion, that's just mine. Oh, and the fact that the N3 is usb rechargable is pretty sweet too! "Are you coming to the party? Oh I'm coming, but I won't be there!" Like everyone else says, just hold off a bit. Ask about gear, see what newer jumpers own and ask why they chose it. Questions questions questions. There is a ton of used gear out there, I found my first one after only a few days of searching. From then on as you gain experience you'll decide what's best for you and what's not. As for me, a brand new V3 is currently in production "Are you coming to the party? Oh I'm coming, but I won't be there!" Flying Hellfish #828 Dudist #52

Pulling slider down with big steering lines
linebckr83 replied to linebckr83's topic in Gear and Rigging
There are a million threads on this, and most people agree it depends on the canopy and wl. I dont think itll matter much on a 210 loaded at 1:1, and it isnt a whole lot on my 170. But moving the slider from the top of the risers effectively increases your line length and reduces the anhedral arc. I do notice a difference in glide and flaring power, and my riser pressure does seem to be less, although that could be in my head since im working out . I did not go removable for drag decrease as my swooping technique leaves a whole lot to be desired still, but I just dont like not being able to look up, sideways, or behind me when i have my slider in my skytie. It is still collapsible because sometimes, like on windy days or back-to-back loads, it just isn't worth taking off. "Are you coming to the party? Oh I'm coming, but I won't be there!" I've noticed the same thing. And most get defensive when approached about it. Also, I couldn't before, but I'm getting to a point where it is getting easier to judge someone's credibility very quickly, as others described above. Most people wont beef their profile by only a few jumps, and if they do by, say several hundred, they talk in a way that shows they are not at that level. Just a few observations I've made around here. "Are you coming to the party? Oh I'm coming, but I won't be there!" Flying Hellfish #828 Dudist #52

Pulling slider down with big steering lines
linebckr83 replied to linebckr83's topic in Gear and Rigging
Its not about finger trapping the lines, I already do that whenever I remove and reattach my toggles. I have trouble pulling slider grommets down over the toggle knots so I can put the slider behind my head. I have 12 yards of 750lb vectran on the way from paragear. Maybe Ill comment on my customer service too "Are you coming to the party? Oh I'm coming, but I won't be there!" Flying Hellfish #828 Dudist #52 -
I factor someone's experience in when reading their answers to questions. Does that mean the most experienced is always right? Of course not. But if you have 2 opposing point of views, say on downsizing, with mcordell and his 40ish jumps vs stu or chuck with their thousands, it plays a roll. I think listing experience is helpful for the newcomers on here who do not know the truly experienced jumpers from the posers. "Are you coming to the party? Oh I'm coming, but I won't be there!" +1 My 170 isn't a small canopy but I can get the first 2 alarms to go off pretty easily under it. I dont remember ever hearing the 3rd under canopy besides on a weird hnp when it went off as I was sniveling 2000 ft above that designated altitude I have a Pro Trac and Pro Dytter btw. Pulling slider down with big steering lines
linebckr83 replied to linebckr83's topic in Gear and Rigging
I was thinking about replacing it too. Since the others are hma, would vectran be a better choice than spectra? The 750lb is $.90 a yard from paragear. "Are you coming to the party? Oh I'm coming, but I won't be there!" Flying Hellfish #828 Dudist #52 -
Pulling slider down with big steering lines
linebckr83 replied to linebckr83's topic in Gear and Rigging
My nitron 170 has hma lines with no cascades, but the control lines are the thick spectra I believe, like on student canopies. The knot on the toggle is pretty big obviously and I have trouble getting slider grommets over that part of the riser sometimes. Anyone else have that problem or have ideas to fix it? The bulk of the stowed line is in that same area, making it even thicker right there. "Are you coming to the party? Oh I'm coming, but I won't be there!" Flying Hellfish #828 Dudist #52 -
I don't have a set, but I'm curious as to why you want a set of those if you have newer ones. Just wondering. I just got a new rds slider from PC. I love it! Great craftsmanship. "Are you coming to the party? Oh I'm coming, but I won't be there!" Flying Hellfish #828 Dudist #52

Only stupid idiots jump out of planes...

I remember last year having the same mentality. I walked around everywhere with one of my 2 skydiving shirts on because I felt better than everyone else! Now I choose to wear other stuff because I'm tired of answering the same questions over n' over. But I do still feel better than everyone else "Are you coming to the party? You do realize that a 159 (or close to it) on a real, administered IQ test puts you in the group with Stephen Hawking and Einstein right? Only a handful of people fit in that category "Are you coming to the party? Oh I'm coming, but I won't be there!" Flying Hellfish #828 Dudist #52 -

148. the internet ones are bullshit though. If someone wants to take an "official" one without finding a mensa testing facility, try internationalhighiqsociety.com. It's a group like mensa but they accept the top 5% instead of the top 2% of scores. It has some pretty tough areas, and each question is individually timed. I've even got a sweet membership plaque they mailed me! "Are you coming to the party? Oh I'm coming, but I won't be there!" Flying Hellfish #828 Dudist #52 -
At our cessna dz, rw was the norm. 4-ways all day long. Right off student status until about 150 jumps thats what i did. We have that typical skygod who has 2000 jumps over 30 years, never really did anything big in the sport, refuses to try anything new, and feels like he runs the place. I got tired of having fun on a jump just to get to the ground to hear how i fucked up his perfect formation. So i saved up for a freefly friendly rig and started to sit. Hobie goes to Dallas alot and is pretty damn proficient at a sit, and the only one that could at our dz. So Buff n I learned from him and trial and error. You'd be suprised the number of people who started trying too. Some gave up after only a few tries but alot have kept it up and can hold their own now. Of course this has really irritated the ol skygod. Quite frankly its funny when he manifests thnking he has a 4 way and finds out the rest of us are freeflying. We all join in on rw jumps here and there, but I spend most of my time on my head anymore. Theres no one here that can do it so its a long learning process till i get out of college and can afford some good coaching. Till then, id rather have fun and laugh when i flail instead of getting ripped for it. Im interested in competing someday, but its true that it takes a much higher proficiency in freeflying to do most of those formations. It's a slow process, but I'm sure there are alot of newcomer jumpers like me trying to learn as fast as possible to get to that level. Hopefully it stays around long enough for us. Funny thing is, I altered my slider to make it removable this last week. It looks alot like the deepseed version, but instead of a whole new slider I just modified my original. Since then, every single opening has been on heading and slower. Who knows! "Are you coming to the party? Oh I'm coming, but I won't be there!" Flying Hellfish #828 Dudist #52

Bump Let's hear some more, and perhaps newer tips! "Are you coming to the party? Oh I'm coming, but I won't be there!" Flying Hellfish #828 Dudist #52

I agree! I was overshooting my target every single time, but I've gotten used to it now. But that glide is awesome on long spots! Its funny to see other people next to me struggling to get every ounce of glide and I just tug lightly on the rears My openings arent really consistent though. Not much of a snivel, and the heading seems to depend on how much work i put into staying symmetrical. Maybe they seem a little fast because I was used to the 1000 ft snivels from my pilot "Are you coming to the party? Oh I'm coming, but I won't be there!" Flying Hellfish #828 Dudist #52

If your planned breakoff altitude is 4k on an RW jump, the 5 or 6 seconds passing between a 5k alarm and your breakoff time is pretty easy to guess. I do the same thing, and its pretty easy to tell when you're still turning points past where you should be. Just pay attention as usual, with the alarm being a friendly little reminder that you're freefall is coming to an end. I know what dependence on an audible feels like. I bought one at 9 jumps because I was so scared about losing altitude awareness. Eventually I pulled it out for 50 jumps until I got used to not having it. Now its a reminder that I barely pay attention to because I pay attention with my hand alti. "Are you coming to the party? Oh I'm coming, but I won't be there!" Flying Hellfish #828 Dudist #52
