Probably the best option. It's been that way here for ages, it's easily accessible at pharmacies. And speaking from experience, it's definitely the best option - especially for those who oppose abortion. Realistically, in cases where the condom breaks, or there is a contraceptive accident that results in the uncertainty of whether or not it could result in pregnancy. The girl is far more likely to keep quiet and hope that it doesn't, than to speak to her parents to try and get permission for emergency contraceptives. The availability of the pill to them in these cases can easily reduce unwanted pregnancies. And given the common side effects of taking it, it's not like they will just go and have sex thinking that they can just pop a pill twice the next day to solve it. Having been in that situation a couple of times when I was a teenager, I can say for certain that if it had not been for the easy access of EC, some bad choices and possibly even worse outcomes may have happened. Good on 'em for realizing that there is more good than harm that can come from this.

Please keep on topic guys (had to hide a couple posts). While the issue at hand is relevant to the thread, it has started to take a tangent that would be best suited in this thread: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4467380#4467380

Thanks, I've forwarded it on to be removed.

Got some... Straight edge half sleeve with lyrics from the band Have Heart, "Watch me Rise". The only positive tattoo with meaning I have. After that point I just got whatever I liked, on a whim - if I regret it later in life, so be it... Life is short, I won't be regretting it long. I've had all mine for a few years now. Others include the cross of saint Peter on my chest, over my heart. Which is more just my way of rejecting the religious household I was brought up in. Sigil of Lucifer on my forearm, well that's just to ignite conversations that can lead into religious debates. An anti police brutality piece "Refuse / Resist" inspired by Sepultura. Another straight edge tattoo of a black sheep from the punk band Minor Threat's one album cover. And then a random aesthetic piece. Next on the list of desires is some birds though, I'm quite into my birding and need me some feathered fellows on me. Perhaps a raptor or two ;) I am kind of like a walking soap box troll.

The following scam has been reported: Click here to read more about these kind of scams. Remember: DO NOT do business with anyone who offers to send you payment for a higher amount than your selling price with the understanding that you'll send back the balance. Be suspicious of anyone claiming to be acting on behalf of a "client" or another "customer". Be suspicious of anyone claiming to be from Nigeria or West Africa If you agree to accept a check payment, then do not send anything, gear or "change" before the check cleared. And be careful, if you manage to clear a fraudulent check then you may be liable for the damages if the bank finds out later. Make sure your bank authenticates the check. If it sounds to good to be true, then it probably is.This username has been disabled.

Something weird is happening with new unread posts lately
Meso replied to unkulunkulu's topic in Error and Bug Reports
While we had someone take a look at the new post problem, they weren't able to replicate it to solve it, I will get back in touch with them to get it sorted. With regards to the ads, unfortunately that sounds like those ads are not something we serve, but rather google ads. If you can give me screenshots of the ads that take extended time to load we can look into it, but I suspect it may be a google ad. -
This is a list of recent scammer sellers that have copy and pasted gear ads from other websites to dropzone.com. These users will offer gear in the classifieds and when you attempt to buy it, they will often ask that you send the money via PayPal as a gift. NEVER send payment for a gear item as a gift, the reason being that there is a policy where PayPal will not get involved in disputes that are gifts, meaning if you are scammed of your money, you're not likely to get it back. These users have since been disabled from the site: omthurr nstimmd axesrer eightieg nsshfie elaoop If you have contacted one of these users to purchase gear, we recommend cutting contact immediately. We continue to urge users to ask questions to both buyers and sellers to establish their legitimacy. If possible, get in contact with their DZ or rigger to confirm this, or work the sale through an Escrow service. Unfortunately since we offer a free service which allows any registered user to submit and respond to ads, we are faced with challenges with regards to these scammers, but we will continue to do our best to alert you to these users and continue to provide tips and new information to make the safest possible transactions.

Yeah, it's an awful ad campaign. I'm not sure how it found itself onto any ad hosts. The easiest way to get rid of it, is to refresh the page. As mentioned, we're working at getting it removed ASAP. Waiting to hear back from the ad host still.

I just got the pop-up too, it is annoying and we are working at getting rid of it. In fact we already reached out to the ad hosts on Wednesday, but we haven't heard back from them, we'll be getting in touch with them again immediately in order to effectively remove this annoying ad.

I forwarded the British Airways ad on to a coworker who deals with the advertising issues, I'll follow up with him and see if the ad host has responded.
-
Looks like it's an ad that slipped past our ad host (we have stipulated that we don't want any invasive ads). I'll be reaching out to them this morning to get the ad removed.

This issue should be fixed.

It has been brought up and I've spent some good time looking at it before, but I have taken a note to look into it again this week and see if I can get it fixed.

With regards to your post. We have google ads which run on the site. These ads are the same as you see on 99% of websites online, they're generic ads that google serves. We personally don't collect any data for that. It will show to others too though, they are typically shown to a broad audience. In fact, I see them too... But shhh, don't tell the dermatologist.
-
Thanks for that. Few people realize that ads aren't merely annoying things that plaster your screen. They're also what keep websites able to operate. And also don't see all the behind the scenes costs involved with running websites (especially of this size). We try our best to provide you with the best user experience possible, but at the same time- to develop new templates, to fix bugs etc, it requires $. We also try to provide as much of a free service as possible, instead of charging for all classifieds use, we would rather make that free and put up a few ads. For those who haven't blocked ads... You'd also notice if you've been a long time user that it's no longer a case of being spammed by google ads. Sure, there are some included. But we've been working hard to provide you with relevant skydive related ads, and continue to try and do so. Even though I personally have adblock installed on my devices, in the office and at home- I only disable it for large revenue sites like facebook, that I know can operate regardless of ad clicks. Otherwise, if I am feeling like I'm being provided with something I enjoy without paying for it, will gladly help them out by keeping ads up.

The functionality you mention is what we're currently considering and seeing what the options are. But the idea of having certain users to be 'verified' or 'trusted' users is a concept that is likely to take place in the future. Like I said, we just have to finish looking at options and how we'd go about doing it in the most effective way.

We've been continuing to work to address any issues users may have found in the new classifieds layout - we put out a call when we upgraded for users to let us know if there was something that needs to be addressed, so it's always been a case of working with the users to get it up to scratch. Not much has changed though... I will re-implement the warning system alerting users to newly registered sellers. I wasn't aware that this functionality had changed since the upgrade. While we could add placeholder images to the listings without ads, there isn't really any reason to. It would just increase load time without serving any real purpose. There are not supposed to be any duplicate listings. When there are - they should be reported to us so that we can remove one of the duplicates. Putting that functionality back may be possible. Shall look into it. The ads added to the video sharing isn't our doing at all. The ads you see on videos are coming straight from youtube. We allow users to share their videos straight from youtube, we have no control over what ads youtube is putting on those videos that are being shared.

The scam review system isn't the best with regards to alerts. While we get e-mail notifications for buyer scams, we don't get the same alerts for scam sellers. This week I will actually look into implementing a system that e-mails us the username of a seller scam when a report is made, to make the disabling process of sellers easier.
-
There is not much we can do. We do everything in our power to prevent them already. We have a waiting period before people can post ads, we disable scam users when they are reported to us (may take a couple days due to office hours etc). The only thing we could do to prevent scammers from trying to scam people, is to implement an in-depth registration process of classifieds. Where buyers and sellers would have to confirm who they are and supply us with certain details, details many users may not want to provide. It would be met positively by some, but negatively by others. The scams you see here exist on all classifieds platforms. Even places like Craig's List or Gumtree. They fall victim to the same scammers, and there is no way to keep them out apart from changing the whole way a user registers. It's up to the buyer and the seller to establish whether the user is legitimate or not. We can only provide so much security - the rest is up to the people organizing the transaction. Make sure you speak to people on the phone during a sale, contact their dropzone, confirm their USPA or equivalent license number. As you say, 'so what if it's a little inconvenient'. With that said, we are toying with ideas that won't prevent scammers - but rather help identify the trusted ones. Cheers

Thanks for the heads up, I've gone ahead and amended the description of that forum section.
