I have gone ahead and amended the help article regarding the watched threads to reflect the way to currently get there. Thanks

Hrm... There have been no changes on our side to try adjust any of the upload process, so if something weird is going on, it may be due to a bug. I have tested it out by uploading a single image 3 times, one with a single name, one with 3 names, space separated and one with the same name that your file had. All 3 of these uploads were successful, which makes me think perhaps, while the jpg file you're uploading works correctly, there may be some kind of issue with it that our system is seeing. You can try uploading a different jpg image on this thread and see if it does the same, but with the upload process seeming to work fine in general, and the filename not being an issue, it can only lead me to think it's a problem with that specific file.

Eh. I looked into Windows 8 this weekend but there are a few things that put me off, one being that it's not really highly supported yet, I generally like to wait a couple of years before moving onto an operating system - just so that all software is compatible. I like my start button, it's been there for a long time and I'd preferably have it remain there. If I wanted a whole new navigation system and an OS which isn't vastly supported - I'd move to Ubuntu. Windows 8 is generally created with things like touchscreens in mind, the UI navigation for a regular PC seems to leave something to be desired. I've been a long time XP user, it was only actually yesterday that I moved to Windows 7 since I needed a 64bit operating system to run my 8GB of ram. And the transition so far really hasn't been as bad as I was expecting, it seems if one has high specs - Windows 7 is quite delightful (after turning UAC off). I'm quite impressed with 7 and I would likely be waiting until 9 potentially before moving on from it... If at all... May just hang on to it like I did with XP.

That would make sense, there are parts of the site that are still run statically, so once a day the server goes through and rebuilds the information. So it's very possible that in the rebuild process, that it rebuilds the default settings as opposed to what you've changed. With this information, I'll try look into what we could do about it.

Eh, while I tend to stray away from the anthropogenic warming creating a bunch of severe weather thinking, the drought and record highs have far more credibility for the whole global warming thing than hurricanes do. Reason being that it's easy to gauge when a drought is out of the ordinary etc. With hurricanes there is no such thing as an ordinary hurricane, each time it's different, sometimes they go *poof*, other times they under RI and become monsters, other times they ignore our understanding of science and strengthen as warm cored tropical cyclones over cold waters (see Epsilon). Sandy wasn't run of the mill, but there is no hint of any anthropogenic influence on her. In fact the thing that made this storm unique is that out of all the hurricanes that have formed, this one's strengthening was only marginally due to SSTs, and instead had more baroclonic influence. When you get 10-15 tropical systems a year, every few years one is going to do something amazing in some way, depending on how the synoptics are set up at that time. Sandy got some typical late Oct ones and in turn did some really cool stuff, like spreading out her wind radii as her pressure dropped, instead of establishing a tight inner core. There's been unique hurricanes since the beginning of time though, it's all about upper air patterns and how much dry air is coming off the CONUS, or how the Saharan Air Layer is. SSTs are only a very small portion of storm development. Throw enough coins at a basket ball hoop and eventually it's going to pull off something unique - perhaps ride the rim. Of course, tackling the things like steady increases in drought and highs, assuming they exist throughout a vast area - is not as easy. But not Sandy, she was just a normal storm caught in a unique set of circumstances, as happens once every 5 or 10 years.

This definitely isn't a Nor'Easter. As the NHC confirmed in the 5pm advisory, and as recon has continued to show, the core is still a warm core system - well at the time of your post, meaning it's still a hurricane as opposed to a baroclonic low that merely solely feeds off the atmosphere. Though at around 4pm EDT it began to start the baroclonic process - and now is primarily a baroclonic low, drawing it's energy from the air and relying on gradients. Sandy holds hybrid characteristics. She has a very large wind field, and with that, means that she can pull cold air down from Canada into the circulation. And unlike most Nor'Easters, Sandy has been causing surge to develop for a number of days now as she traversed up the Atlantic. Further more her pressure is insanely lower than any nor'easter that has ever existed. Most strong nor'easters have minimum central pressures in the 970s, not the low 940s. The reason why Sandy is so special is just this, we have never encountered the same type of system before, it's unchartered meteorological territory. Sure there have been similar systems that were hybrids, but not the same as Sandy. Back to the hype, after Katrina, yes... The media now makes a big deal about anything. But in many cases it comes down to meteorology still being inaccurate by nature - the atmosphere is fickle. Irene could have been 10x worse had it been for just a few differences in it's development. I expect Sandy to be worse than Irene, not a Katrina by any means - but likely the most damage the NE will see from a storm in decades - and definitely worth good media coverage. And judging by the number of people who didn't evacuate or are currently riding around on jet skis in the new york harbour - they need to hype it.

This is Atlantic City currently apparently: https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/548888_456342181073807_953424409_n.png

The following user has been reported by several users as a scammer. The user put up an ad over the past few days which was copied from another website, he then asks for payment via paypal. PLEASE NOTE: The ads are often generic and copied and pasted from other legitimate ads, but the price will be too good to be true, and like they say - when it seems to be, it probably is. Do not do business with the following username: Username: ptuczz Ad: Mirage G4 only 15 jumps! Stilletto 135,PD 126 REDUCED PRICE! Mirage G4 MT only 15 jumps! full options DOM:2011, Stilletto 135 DOM:2010, PD 126 (no jumps), AAD Vigil 2 DOM: 03/2010 All gear has done less than 50 jumps and is in excellent cond. Like new! Will fit 5'4 - 5'8 easily, 135-155 pounds. Reason for sale: Getting out of sport. This user is using a scam that is increasing in popularity on sales websites throughout the internet, where they will copy and paste a legitimate advert from another website so that the wording sounds as though it is really a skydiver, making it very difficult to decipher whether the user is legitimate or not. We highly recommend attempting to ask questions that are difficult for scammers to answer relating to their item, that they could not know from copy and pasting. If there is any doubt as to whether the seller is legitimate or not, we also recommend considering asking them to work the sale through their dropzone. We ask you to remain vigilant when it comes to online purchases. The user has been removed from the site.

Best of luck to you, you are in probably what one could call the 'bulls eye' and in all honesty, I expect power losses are going to exist largely throughout the NE over the next few days. Though you mention you're 25 miles inland, meaning that your biggest threat will be rain water, which while potentially bad - is better than being along the beach in the surge zone. Houses on the beach do pose risk of heavy flood damage should they be in a position of surge potential. But there is nothing one can really do about those situations apart from hope for the best and remove any easily removable valuables prior.

Only saw this thread now, but I have been tracking Sandy since she was a mere wave in Caribbean and have been following intently since. Sandy is a pretty awesome and unique storm, it underwent RI (Rapid intensification) just prior to Cuban landfall but naturally land interaction lead to weakening and dry air started to get pulled into the inner core of the storm, which eroded the central convection and kept it from strengthening too much. Sandy then began to take on some slight subtropical characteristics, while actually maintaining her warm core, keeping her a tropical cyclone. Dry air and vertical shear continued to keep her moderate in wind speeds, at around 65kt for most of the time. But her central pressure continued to drop, now for small systems and most systems in general, lower pressure means stronger winds. But as with Sandy, as happened with Irene - instead of the lower pressure translating into an increased tight pressure gradient and in turn, strong winds... Sandy and Irene both spread out their lower pressure instead, what this does is it allows the storm to keep it's wind speed, but instead spreads it out over a large distance in the wind radii. Sandy's ability to maintain decent wind speeds over such a large area is also due to some baroclonic influence. The pressure gradient from the ambient pressure around her can cause the wind speeds to increase even if her physical appearance deteriorates. The main problem for towns and cities with these storms is that the large wind radii allows for a lot more energy being transferred to the waters below and in turn creates larger storm surge. The reason Katrina was so bad was because it was a large wind field and a strong storm prior to landfall, and even though it weakened as it approached the GOM coast, the surge that it created as a stronger storm remains with it. Sandy's primary threat is likely to be surge, surge and rainfall. Areas of NY are likely to see up to or more than 10 feet or surge, that's more than double what Irene gave. In fact 3.5ft is already being reported in Battery Park. It doesn't help matters that it is a full moon, and tides are going to be higher already than normal. Sandy is a type of hybrid system though being mixed with a trough, what this does is it enhances outflow of the storm for one, which can strengthen it. It basically ventilates it. Which is why the storm may gain an extra few mph over the next 6-12 hours. I know of beach damage along the VA coast already, and flooding and a bit of surge already occurring in parts of New York. The rain totals are going to be quite large, but for places like NY harbour where they can only take 5 ft of ocean water height increases before it will lap over the harbour walls - the 10 ft of surge could end up shutting down subway systems.

That's something that would be implemented in the somewhat near future rather than the immediate. Our content management system runs its own forum software and would require creating a whole new piece of code from scratch to do create that feature. It holds merit and we may well implement something like it soon-ish, but can't say it is on the highest priority list at this stage.

Not many Australian proxy services out there to test this. If you can post a screenshot the next time, or give the brands they`re advertising we can try remove 'em.

In our experience if they're willing to pay through paypal, the payment is made and is fraudulant, so it reflects originally, but is then reversed a few days later. -
Should be updated now :)

Invalid Certificate Errors on Every Page Load
Meso replied to champu's topic in Error and Bug Reports
This seems to be a problem with the way Safari sometimes handles certificates. The certificate is most certainly legitimate, so there is no reason for it to be giving grief. I've seen several forums on this topic and there were different issues for different people. Some being that their computer date/time was wrong and thus conflicted with when the certificate was generated. I would recommend checking out some of these links and seeing if it can't solve your problem: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4463030?tstart=0 http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1351831 -
I hate to ruin the potential for true love, but for what it's worth, I disabled their username.

Meh. The same ones as before? The car ads? I'll forward the information along.

Are you still receiving this error? There are several factors that could result in this. One being that the server could be having a hiccup at a particular time, otherwise another possibility is that the user, when submitting their ad - had an issue where the ad wasn't placed correctly and one of the fields that are set on submission was never set. It's hard to pinpoint, though if others report the same then it could well be an issue on our server.

It is a weird error message indeed. We've had problems with it in the past, and I'm still not entire sure what causes it, other than it should disappear after a few minutes and never be heard of again for a few months. I think it has something to do with the server having problems writing a request... But the easiest thing to do is just to try repost, if it lasts for more than 10 minutes ever, then just contact me so I can yell at the guys doing the tech work to fix it.

And you're all missing out on the cake

I've tried assigning a fixed height to the header behind the ad image, so now in theory.... there shouldn't be a bump when the ad gets displayed. I've only made this change to the forum section as I suspect it's the only place where it really makes life a bit more difficult. Lemme know how it is.

Okay so I've removed the top facebook link, and replaced it with the alternative option of a facebook like box on the left hand side of the page. This should cause no issues in the loading of items pushing the page down as they load. I have done testing on a mobile device and I can say that while there is still a small 'bump' when the top banner ad loads as there has always been, there is no longer a second movement from the loading of the facebook button. Hopefully this sorts things out.
