We've reached out to the ad networks that are running the ads, the one is looking into it, while we are waiting on the other, we will do testing in the mean time to see if we can replicate it in order to track down which network is serving it.

Thanks for the heads up, we'll try locate this ad and remove it.

10 Free Copies of Dan Brodsky-Chenfeld's book "Above All Else" up for Grabs!

This past weeks competition winners are: Alan K. Griffiths and Frédo Flypower. Congrats guys! -
I will go and make a change to the URL in the Read First thread. For the other threads mentioning the glossary, yeah, we can't go and edit them, but we can think about possibly implementing a re-write rule. The glossary is in one of the subsections of the safety section. Safety > Students > Glossary

Hey, Nah, we definitely have no plans of removing them. Could you advise me as to whether you are following a link to the areas and they're breaking (if so, where are these links) or if you just can't find them? The FAQ should work through the help menu on the top right: http://www.dropzone.com/help/index.shtml While the Skydiving Glossary is accessible through the safety articles at: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/safety/detail_page.cgi?ID=35 If you see dead links that are supposed to link to these, just let me know where and I'll get on fixing them.

The following scam has been reported: Click here to read more about these kind of scams. Remember: DO NOT do business with anyone who offers to send you payment for a higher amount than your selling price with the understanding that you'll send back the balance. Be suspicious of anyone claiming to be acting on behalf of a "client" or another "customer". Be suspicious of anyone claiming to be from Nigeria or West Africa If you agree to accept a check payment, then do not send anything, gear or "change" before the check cleared. And be careful, if you manage to clear a fraudulent check then you may be liable for the damages if the bank finds out later. Make sure your bank authenticates the check. The following user has been reported by several users as a scammer. The user put up an ad over the past few days which was copied from another website, he then asks for payment via paypal. PLEASE NOTE: The ads are often generic and copied and pasted from other legitimate ads, so if you see an ad using the exact wording in the message, we recommend you avoid doing business with it. They will often merely change the name of the item for sale. Username: jjrsam Ad: This user is using a scam that is increasing in popularity on sales websites throughout the internet, where they will copy and paste a legitimate advert from another website so that the wording sounds as though it is really a skydiver, making it very difficult to decipher whether the user is legitimate or not. We highly recommend attempting to ask questions that are difficult for scammers to answer relating to their item, that they could not know from copy and pasting. If there is any doubt as to whether the seller is legitimate or not, we also recommend considering asking them to work the sale through their dropzone. We ask you to remain vigilant when it comes to online purchases. The user has been removed from the site.

Meso replied to slotperfect's topic in Error and Bug Reports
The problems with migrating parts of templates from other websites we've developed... ;) I've fixed it now. -
Hey there, I took a look at this and did a bit of tweaking to something that was a bit out of place, I am hoping it has solved the problem you've reported. Just shout if you're still experiencing it. Cheers

Users don't currently have the ability to delete their reviews. You can private message me or contact me at support@dropzone.com and we can work at removing the review for you. The help menu is giving an error due to the fact that we are currently busy upgrading our templates and today, the help section was part of that - and it takes a few hours to iron out the bugs sometimes. You can get help from contacting support@dropzone.com or by private messaging me. There is a list of moderators available at the bottom of each forum section.

Hey, The error was caused due to the template change we're rolling out. I've corrected the link on the My Stuff drop down, which should now point to the correct URL, the one posted above.

Thanks for the heads up. This is something that is likely tied to our upgrade of the templates, we will work on getting it back up shortly.

Hey, The error tag is related to the ad, which we will try fix up. But the log in box is temporarily removed from the home page while we get ready to upgrade that template to the new one seen in Photos, Dropzones and Gear. You can read more about the issue here: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4364056;page=unread#unread

As Bolas mentioned, you can log out on any of those pages. The other 10 login/logout boxes should work fine on all the other sections, and they should all be global. The 'my stuff' bar on the forum, assuming one has it showing, offers a log out option. Otherwise the other pages (dropzone, gear, photos etc) offer a logout button on the top right next to help.

Irene was borderline Category 1 at landfall, I remember being up all night tracking it through landfall (and the days prior). I recall some very marginal cat 1 winds around the OBX, but nothing that could secure it as a hurricane landfall. I've been tracking Isaac now for a while too, a week or two prior to it's original wave exit off Africa, the GFS model was showing it being a quick developer and then heading out to sea. But it's development was surprised by the SAL (Saharan Air Layer) which is an area of dry air that hinders development (as all dry air does for tropical storms). Once it reached the Caribbean it was supposed to strengthen and early NHC forecasts called for intensity that was near the SHIPS model (which is an aggressive intensity guidance model). But dry air and moderate NE shear ended up sending Isaac's convection to the SW, and to develop a well stacked inner core that is needed for strengthening you need the lows to be stacked above each other, this happens when you have a constant CDO (convection building strong over the LLC (low level center)). It has been struggling with stacking issues non stop actually, there was an ULL (upper level low) to the NW of it which was enhancing outflow, which gave it a great satellite appearance, but the core has always remained troubled, with convective bursts occurring around the large LLC, and essentially instead of building a single circulation stacked onto the LLC the MLC (mid level circulation) of which there were a few, were existing around the LLC instead of on top of it's center. Over the past 8 hours, it looks as though things may have improved a bit, with the latest recon flight showing that the LLC and MLC may finally be stacking and that the multiple vorticies may have now died down and be consolidating. Big news though is that last night the first G-IV flight went in, and the G-IV recon flight collects data for the model initialization, so the models should now be more accurate. And it's looking like Alabama to the east side of the FL panhandle is the most likely place for the main landfall as the current models stand. Though recon is currently in the storm now and the talking point between us weather nerds is that the NHC position was at 16.9N at the 2am, while recon found the center at around 15N - which could mean a huge change in track. The models will likely be run from the new initialization point in the 06z model runs. Center relocation is caused by convection a lot of the time, with convection that is strong tending to pull the circulation towards it. Though there are still so many questions, such as - is this now the primary circulation - have the other vorts disappeared, is the core becoming stacked. There are still a lot of variables, it could make landfall in Cuba and have it's circulation destroyed, it could make it over fine. It could be stacking and start to strengthen rapidly, it could just slowly gain another 5mph every 12 hours. It could trend more west or it could trend east, depending on center relocations. It's why obsessive tracking is so fun

We're currently busy retemplating the site (as can be seen on the dropzone, gear and photos pages so far). Currently we're busy working on the home page template and part of this required the login box to go for now, but rest assured it will be back soon ;)
-
Thanks guys, I've gone ahead and added those gear manufacturers and items to the database.
-
We've finished rolling out the next set of updates to the template. You will notice that the photos page has a new and improved look to it. As with the previous pages mentioned above, if you see any errors or problems when using the page, don't hesitate to either just leave a comment in the bugs forum or send me a private message.
