With all you have put into skydiving, I applaud your choice. I;m glad I'm not in a position that would require me to make that choice. In fact, I'm actually in some ways being encouraged in my exploits. THey are even planning on using my avatar picture on the cover of our spring/summer schedule of class booklet. I hope I get to see you in the air one of these days. Pearl "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490

By going to a DZ and doing what your instructors tell you. They are trained to help you learn to jump safely. Too much book and video browsing can set you up for unlearning. For me, I have to put my absolute trust in my instructors first of all and then in myself to be able to do what they tell me. Why not go to a DZ in your area and talk to an instructor there and see what they tell you? "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490

Should people that no longer Jump still post here?
grannyinthesky replied to Thanatos340's topic in The Bonfire
Not in my book. You are one of the people who makes skydiving about the bestest thing in the world. You have jumped. You clearly still love it and you will be back in the air one of these days. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490 -
THanks for expressing your concerns here. I've had some concerns about the OP trying things because he's read about them here or wlsewhere. I hope he takes your words to heart. He seems bent on trying to learn how to skydive from books and videos. With even my few jumps, I know that's looking for disaster. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! Should people that no longer Jump still post here?
grannyinthesky replied to Thanatos340's topic in The Bonfire
Way to respond. Yes, I certainly think there is a place for all sorts of people here. I have a whopping six jumps, although I would have more if the weather would have cooperated the last month. I started reading and posting here after my first tandem as a way to explore the possibility of someone my age learning to skydive. The encouragement I found here was invaluable and I still appreciate all the feedback I get. Those of us with only a few jumps are able to help each other as well as get help from those who are actively jumping and those who aren't currently jumping for whatever reasons. Overcoming fear, for example, is a topic that many have posted on in response to newbies need for reassurance and help. I also appreciate the offers I have had from people around the country to meet, greet and jump (oh, brave souls,.....you have no idea what you say....) The people who jump/have jumped/want to jump are a big part of the lure and addiction of skydiving for me. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490 -

Snow days are a mixed bag. It's nice to get the day off from work, but......I'm a math teacher and we've had three snow days in the last few weeks. We have to finish the same materials by the end of the quarter one way or another. I feel bad for the students. In order to finish, we will have to really hurry through the material. If we don't finish, they won't have the prerequisite skills for the next class in teh sequence. Besides, if this snowing stuff doesn't stop soon, I'm never gonna get to jump and finish AFF. (I know....it will stop, but,,,,,,) "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490

Although relatively new here and to skydiving, or maybe because of it, I appreciate having the various forums available. For example, since I am still working on just mastering basic skills and hopefully getting my A one of these day (it's got to stop snowing someday!), I don't know or need to know much about the discipline section right now. I collapsed that part for now. I am able to focus on the areas that are more basic. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490

My kids are now 30 and 33 and have expressed a possibility they will at least try a tandem to see what it is their crazy mom is up to. I definitely support their discovery of my world. I also have a 9 year old grandson who is very interested and I'm really hoping to be on the plane when he does his first jump. When you think about all the things that kids can do with their lives to destroy them through drugs, getting a high from skydiving is a whole lot better than that. Oh, my, yes......My kids stuck them all over everything in their bedrooms when I wasn't paying close enough attention once. THose things were just about impossible to get off painted furniture. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490

I think there's just one me, but it's a question of how much I let others see of who I am. In the classroom, I exercise the most restraint and here on DZ.com, probably the least in general. I don't change what I will say to suit the occasion, just whether or not I will say it. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490

I wouldn't say I hate landings, but 6 jumps and I have yet to stand one up. My instructor told me I could easily have stood the last one, I just didn't put my feet down. Maybe next time........of course, it's got to stop snowing here first. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490
