SLACKER!! If I have to do it I call on the master..... GRANNY! She loves math... Yep!! Math is fun!! I keep telling my students that it is and I get some pretty disbelieving looks from them. Wonder why? "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490

0:6:0 Well, with a weekend that had really crappy weather the whole weekend, I was still able to get in 6 jumps. The last one was from 3000. I can't say I've ever exited that low before. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490

So glad to turn my computer on tonight and see a post from you.

I was waaaaaay too familiar with student weather woes. I did my first AFF jump Thanksgiving weekend and by the end of April, I finally did my eighth jump. It was really frustrating... watching experienced jumpers jump when I couldn't... watching tandems go up when I couldn't.... blue skies and the plane down for maintenance. You name it, it caused me to not be able to jump. It's the way things go in skydiving for students. Now, about a year later and over 300 jumps, I have a lot more understanding, but I still don't like it when weather gets in the way of my fun. It gets better once you have your license, but then you have to be responsible for making the decision to stay on the ground instead of an instructor doing it for you. Balloon Jump (didn't get out)
grannyinthesky replied to chrismgtis's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'd suggest more hop n'pops too. Coming from a 182 dz, I've done a bunch of them and when I did a balloon jump for my 200th, the altitude wasn't anything new. Climbing out of the basket sort of was. Once I got there, though, standing there looking out at the beautiful early morning view and just letting go and falling forward was so fun. I'ml definitely planning on more! 0:4:0 Fun weekend after a soggy stormy Saturday. Our night jumps were washed out, but there was still a lot of fun to be had at the dz. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490

Huh? Too much coffee for Bry this morning?????

Looks like it is going to start raining here soon as well. Is the rain there going to mess up your weekend plans too? We were going to be doing night jumps, but unless things really improve, that's not going to happen. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490

Yes, you remember right. We did start about the same time. 2007. I just did my 300th jump last weekend and got a nice face full of pie. I didn't do anything spectacular for that jump, but chose to do a solo on a load in our little C-182 with one of my former math students doing her first tandem. That was a different kind of special. (Oh, and she like it so well, she's talking about doing AFF) If you make it to Lodi, I'd sure try to make it there to meet you. I jumped there in March and it is a bit of a different place. The vineyards are pretty intimidating and they are all over the place. On my first jump there, I opened and that was about all I could see below me. I didn't know I could go that far, but I did land in the dz landing area, unlike some unlucky other jumpers. The landing are is nice and big by the way and the freeway isn't really a problem. If you can make it to this part of the country, I'll be glad to do what I can to get you to the bridge or other jumpable areas around here. Although I haven't tried it myself yet, I do know some local BASE jumpers. Keep in touch.

Hi Minna, I am always so delighted to see you posting and I am constantly amazed by your exploits. Ever consider coming to Idaho and doing a B.A.S.E. jump of the Perrine Bridge in Twin Falls? I would sure love to meet you sometime. Pat "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490

I'll be there. I made my plane reservations a couple of months ago.
