The Electoral College system was to make sure the uneducated masses didn't screw things up. If we voted for the wrong person, the elite would correct it in the Electoral College. On a side note, we might could have a true democracy today. With smart phones and such, it might be possible to create a system where people could have a voter registration ID and vote directly on items. I think it would be a catastrophe, but it is technically possible. And there would be the traditional cry of disenfranchisement of those who can't afford the technology or to travel to a polling place, walk upright, etc. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. It will likely be a mess if people transport across state lines. There is some provision for states to recognize other states' laws and some provision for ignoring them. And going from one state to another usually invokes Federal jurisdiction. Personally, I don't see why some drugs are treated differently from others. If drugs are going to be legal, let them be legal. Alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, concaine, etc. are all about the same to me. Just make provisions for not hurting others (drunk driving, etc.) and don't make me pay for your habit (lack of employment, healthcare, etc.). Fossil fuels are finite. They WILL run out. We need to use the finite to reach the much more plentiful alternatives. Sooner is better than later. Planets are finite at the moment. I think most people can understand the planet follows cycles and we will always be somewhere in some cycle. It is reasonable to think that human activity is having an effect on the climate. The question is how much effect, what exactly is causing the effect, and how much of that the planet can naturally heal. While I agree with a conservationist attitude (we only have one planet, afterall), there seems to be excess use of the issue to make money. That makes the legitimate issue look trumped up. Yelling more loudly that the sky is falling really doesn't help. I'm living in Europe now. Seeing how they live here, I think the US could do much better. I think we use fossil fuels and other finite resources foolishly. I don't think the solution is to give money to people in the hopes that they will not waste it and will really come up with alternatives. However, taxing the fossil fuels to force the market to find economically alternative solutions might have some merit. Handing out money from the public treasury is deceptively easy. I don't see the issue here as being global warming, yes or no. I see it as whether it makes sense to subsidize a company that is not producing alternative transportation, but is producing a hot 'car du jour' for the elite. If it was subsidizing smart cars or something of that sort, at least it would make some sense. Subsidizing this company makes no sense. The eco argument is just being used to get taxpayer money. I'm considering adding a camera to my motorcycle helmet. It seems many designs are not really suitable. Same with skydiving. The cameras could be more streamlined and mount friendly IMHO. His caravan blasted through a stop sign and nearly hit a couple of Soldiers in a crosswalk. When I got to the gym, I discovered that was where they were going in such a hurry. Biden was in workout clothes, taking pictures with troops. He was there about 15 minutes and didn't work out.
