Obama pondering using executive decision on gun control
davjohns replied to regulator's topic in Speakers Corner
Wow. Just wow. You just made it clear that only criminals should have guns. Wow. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course. -
Am I the only one throwing out the bullshit card? Really? He cheated on you and then blamed the breakup on you? Really? I agree that trust broken is very hard to restore. However, if the cheater is sincerely, deeply hurt by their transgression, there is a chance they can turn away from their wandering ways and be faithful thereafter. On the other hand...if they blame others, they are not taking responsibility for their actions and there can be no true remorse. This guy seems to fall into the latter category by blaming you and will cheat again. RUN. Be thankful for the great gift of truth you have received now and the more painful experience you were spared later. And RUN. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.

Welfare mom with 15 kids wants someone to pay for them
davjohns replied to regulator's topic in Speakers Corner
I once had a fairly close friendship with a black female who confessed to me that she was in college before she discovered there was no 'man'. She had been told all of her life that 'the man' was holding people down, oppressing blacks, denying jobs, etc. She really had no idea this was untrue. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course. -
NASA is well known for their efforts to promote themselves. Even requests for grade school visits to NASA facilities have to include a media plan. More media usually equates to a safer budget. Welfare mom with 15 kids wants someone to pay for them

I would ask that you substantiate that because i really doubt that she has much support outside of her immediate family or circle of friends. And in fact she IS reaping the benefits of her lack of responsibility. She is homeless and cannot feed her kids. Does that sound like some sort of free ride? Not to me. I'm not sure your recitation of the facts matches what I've been given. The video I watched over her showed her in a home and there was no mention of homelessnes. To the contrary, one person in the video said the woman's rent was being paid by others. The video also said that many people have tried to help her. My comment was directed at her statement in the video that 'someone should be held accountable' for her children. I agree. I think SHE and the fathers should be responsible for their children. You seem to take issue with that idea. I vehemently disagree with the idea that the irresponsible actions of another creates a duty on me to get them out of the mess they made. I am happy to help the unfortunate / less fortunate. However, I am greatly offended by someone who has acted so irresponsibly going on camera and claiming it is someone else's responsibility and acting indignant that someone else isn't being held accountable. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course. -
Obama pondering using executive decision on gun control

I'll be surprised if he uses an Executive Order on an issue so devisive, public, and protected by the Constitution. It would invite huge amounts of money being poured into legal battles. I suspect the result would be judicial limitation of the power of the Executive Order. POTUS is many things, but stupid is not one of them. State of the Climate National Overview Annual 2012

I'm afraid this issue has become so political and tied up with money that I find all 'scientific evidence' suspect. NOAA receives government funding. Politics and money. Suspect. Sorry. I'm agnostic on this issue. I see evidence for whatever way you want to go. But then, that's why it is dealt with in SC. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. I think if you take into account that he called her 'sterotypical', the comment is not unfair. Whether the stereotype is based in truth or not is a different issue. I saw a video of her on facebook. I agree with her. Someone should be held accountable. I just think SHE is the one. She clearly thinks someone else should be accountable for her actions. Sadly, a large section of my government and fellow citizens seem to side with her. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. I used to think that as well as it was what we were told when we switched from 7.62 to 5.56 but the truth of the matter is not so simple. Having worked for years on people who have been shot in a trauma setting I developed an interest in wound ballistics. Watch this, I think you'll find it interesting. http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=fb0_1350399880&comments=1 I have done a bit of research on the development of the 5.56mm and the M16. I'm going from memory... The 5.56mm was part of a move to standardize ammunition with NATO countries. One of the big arguments for its adoption was that it was cheaper and lighter than the 7.62mm alternative. So, the logistics community was in favor of it. As for lethality, it was sent to Vietnam for use by SOF in the prototype XM15. The reports were favorable. The weapon killed effectively in the close environs of the jungle. So, the lethality of the round was not an issue in the decision to go to the round. The problem began when the weapon was subsequently sent to the Army Marksmanship Unit. The XM15 had a relatively short barrel and a 1:7 twist ratio with a 55 grain bullet. Basically, the bullet was unstable when used by the SOF. It was accurate enough for close quarters, but it was tumbling as soon as it hit anything to disrupt it. So, the weapon and round tested in Vietnam was quite lethal. The AMU found it lacking in precision; especially at long range. So, they proposed a heavier bullet (72gr, I think) and twist ratio of 1:9. This gave the round a greater gyroscopic effect and resistance to deflection. It also gave it a tendancy to zip through targets without creating the kind of damage the SOF guys reported. Thus, I don't think the lethality vs wounding ability characteristics of the round played into the decision to adopt it. While it is a valid point, international treaties frown on using such criteria for decision making. I think the logistics crowd had the biggest say in the change. As to the issue of range, the 7.62 has been the long standing round of choice for 1,000 yard competition. The advent of the .338 Lapua is changing this. But the balistic qualities of the .308 (7.62) and hardware involved are so well known that it is still the standard. The 5.56 is not preferred for long range. It just doesn't have the mass to carry far. Someone also mentioned the .30-06 earlier. A far superior bullet to the .308 IMO. Much flatter trajectory. This means the marksman has to make less adjustment for targets at various ranges. In the military marksmanship arena, this is very important. However, the round was not NATO standard and had to be abandoned. The M1 that was retooled from .30-06 to .308 and then transformed into the M14 was very popular with many Soldiers. Sadly, the weight of the M14 may have played into the decision to replace it with the much lighter M16 and 5.56. Aside over. Please go back to discussing whether I have a constitutional right to keep and bear arms. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.

Regardles of your personal position on gun control; these items should be kept in mind: 1. Just because you have risen high in one field (be it entertainment, academics, military, or whatever) does not make you an expert in other fields. Quoting this General because he gained notoriety and has an opinion on the matter carries no more weight than quoting Streisand on social issues. 2. General officers are selected by Congress. They are, by definition, political creatures. Their public opinions are therefore just as suspect as any other politician. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. I can't differentiate. The phyiscal act is the consumation of the betrayal in the mind / heart. It started in the mind and was allowed to grow into a physical act. They are one and the same in my mind; or at least on the same evolutionary line. The cheater failed to be faithful in a small way and never turned away. I think the entire universe will simply cease to exist, instantaneously, in its entirety. Of course, it will then be replaced immediately thereafter with an EXACT DUPLICATE in its place. This will all take place seamlessly, and will only be detectable by the most sensitive of scientific instruments. When these instruments cease to exist, their replacements will indicate an infinitesimal irregularity that will baffle the replacement scientists, who will little suspect that the Dirac Delta they witnessed was the discontinuity between the Before Universe and the After Universe. This simple and obvious outcome was, for some reason, left out of the list of available options. BSBD, Winsor Except for the dolphins, who will have mysteriously disappeared. I actually received my fish bowl from them with the inscription, "So long. And thanks for all the fish." Did you? I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. While it MAY act as a deterrent, I really don't care. I consider the primary purpose of captial punishment the removal from the gene pool of a proven bad apple without the expense of housing them ad infinitum. As to the use of an object, I nver recall thinking my father's use of a belt was abusive. Even the Vice Principal who used a paddle on me knew how to use one. Obviously, that is not the case with everyone. And I didn't see that as a skill I needed to acquire. My hand worked fine. But I would not call any use of a paddle or belt assault. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.

I used pushups, timout and such for reminders. If I had reminded the child once not to do something, the pushups or timout acted as a reminder. The length of timeout or number of pushups, etc. increased as necessary. For instance, when told to do something, if the child came back with what they wanted to in place of what they were told, they were told to do ten pushups and then obey. If anything other than, 'yes, sir' (or yes, ma'am as appropriate) came from their mouth, additional pushups were given. It was just a reminder of who was the parrent and who was the child. What you are describing is willful disobedience. I have seen it quite a few times. My son did it when he was 2. He was playing with a touch lamp. I finally told him to leave it turned off. He looked me straight in the eye, turned it back on, and ran. I scooped him up and swatted him. I placed him in front of the lamp and told him calmly to turn it off. He said, 'no'. It was clearly a battle of wills at this point. For the next few minutes, I told him calmly to turn it off and he refused. Each refusal brought a swat to his rear. Finally, he caved and turned it off. He came to me for a hug and it was there for him. We never again had to figure out who was the parent and who was the child. I've gone through very similar scenarios with other people. Once you've overcome that battle of wills, you usually don't have to do it again. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.

Just curious... If a kid is misbehaving and won't stop his behavior when you tell him to stop, why would he do push-ups or stand in the corner when you tell him to? I never said they wouldn't listen. You made that up. I used punishment to shape behaviors so we would never get to the point that they ignored me. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. To a certain age, it is about the only way to quickly and efficiently make the connection between unwanted behavior and unwanted consequences. Both of mine got swatted when necessary. However, my parents used a belt. I tried that once. I couldn't tell if it was too little pain to get the job done or too much. So, I went back to using my hand. I wanted to know exactly what level of discomfort I was using. Once they were older, I found other ways to make the points. For instance, my daughter was very active. Five minutes in the corner was pretty painful for her. Both of my kids got really good at pushups at one point. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.

How is it different from the American way of paying bills online? For my American bills, I go to my bank online, put how much to send in the little block by each bill and tell it to pay them. Of course, I have to log in and have it set up, but it takes about five minutes. If I don't have the bill handy, I overpay. The payee's computer figures it out and adjusts the bill next time. For European bills...you must have the bill with you. It has a special code at the bottom. Don't know what it is for. You must input information for each bill and pay them one at a time. To log into the site, you have to have a device called a digipass. You enter your PIN in it and it gives you an eight digit code that is your password right now. For each individual bill you want to pay, you have to go through the procedure with the digipass twice. You must pay exactly what the bill says or you will get a delinquency notice or they will send you a check for the overage. Then, I get to worry about depositing the check. I'm not entirely sure it is more convenient that writing checks and mailing them. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. I'm in Belgium. The European way of paying bills online is a bit annoying. I kind of like the whole 'green' thing. Roads suck here. Drivers are worse than the roads. The hardest thing to get used to is that nothing ever seems to be open. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. I think this should be very much fact dependent. I can see situations where a third party search could be reasonable. However, in the vast majority of circumstances, searching a third party or their property due to proximity to someone who has abrogated their rights is clearly 'unreasonable'. I would expect the government to prove the third party knew or should have known that the second party's presence bore such consequences. That would be quite difficult.
