  1. I'm an oddball. I like watching Glen Beck from time to time because he is amusing in the ways he puts things together and some of his arguments are quite compelling. But, I don't necessarily agree with all of his conclusions. I listen to and watch lots of people with varied opinions. I try to avoid in-breeding. Not everyone does. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.
  2. Not in the depths of winter in the wilderness ....dead calm.. no wind with heavy snow falling... no birds.. no insects and many feet of snow to absorb even the little sounds and a LONG way from any roads or flight paths.... ahhhhh We had heavy snow falling here in central Alabama this afternoon. Sure it was only about an inch and a half, but I observed a bunch of little birds playing in the yard, like kids would do. It was fun. I really never heard a goddamn thing out there though. Yeah the national news said something about 4" of snow in Cullman Alabama... I bet that was fun to watch yall try to drive in that with no snow tires... That's my home DZ. The tires are not an issue. Due to the rain, we have all weather tires. The issue is that so many Southerners react to every situation by locking up the brakes. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.
  3. Dog / vomit. Fool / folly. For both parties. Unless she is a gold digger. In which case, it's a good move for her. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. 4. Very amusing. Even in sensory deprivation chambers, I can 'hear' something. The mind needs something to to. I think that's why we dream. 5. Quotelet's talk about violence. We should. A quick review of murder rates compared to gun ownership shows little relationship that I can see. Israel and Switzerland have universal gun ownership (assault weapons at that) and both have much lower murder rates than the US. Something is wrong with the people, not the tools. When is violence acceptable? Various answers. To prevent greater violence. To prevent unjust violence. Jun Fan Lee said react to violence with greater violence. Police are authorized to use a step higher in the violence continuum than the person they are dealing with. Is violence an acceptable means to defend oneself? Yes. And others What about property? Not including deadly force, I wouldn't think. Is it ok to use violence preemptively in order to defend oneself, others or property? Yes. If the belief in imminent harm is reasonable. Is it ever ok to use violence for some reason other than the defense of life, liberty or property? No. But it's easy to make an argument that much violence falls into one of those categories. War is generally stupid, but can be argued to defend on of those three things. Are there special licenses for violence? By this I mean, it's ok for person A to use violence in a particular situation, but it's not ok for person B to use it. Of course. Police and military have special licenses. Is violence a bad thing? If so, are there any cases where depictions of violence, real or imagined, are wrong? Like so many things, violence can be good or bad. It depends on the situation and how it is used. Basically, good and evil are a human invention, so it is on humans that the blame must rest. Animals don't denounce predators for eating. For the most part, i'm sure we can all agree that guns are efficient and fairly readily available tools for violence...some more so than others. This is the debate, but should it be the focus of attention or should the core issue of violence be? I think you have hit the nail on the head. Are we (Americans) as a society more violent than others? And if so, why? A little research would indicate we are. I don't know why. There are lots of ideas that have merit. I would really like to avoid the discussion of guns, as it's kind of boring at this point and I'm finding the discussion about violence much more interesting. Agreed. How's that working for you so far? lol reply] I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. 6. I'll come back and post more comprehensively. I think the OP is trying to start something useful. For the moment, I'll address the average need for a weapon. The average person does NOT need a weapon to defend themselves. They also do not need a fire extinguisher, first aid kit, spare tire, death and dismembership insurance, seat belts, motorcycle helmets and a host of other things. The problem is that you don't know if you are in that statistical average or not until it is too late. Statistically, no children will die due to mass killing in the US, so the average school doesn't need to do anything new to protect them. But we're having lots of discussions about the ultra rare event, aren't we? I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. 11. Things like that scare me. 1. Do not put a knife in their hand. Do not drag them into the house. Do not mess with them at all unless you need to render first aid. 2. Unload the firearm and lay it in plain sight away from you. Present nothing that would cause a responding officer to want to shoot you. After that, it gets a little tricky. You need to notify the authorities. You need legal representation. Not necessarily in that order. I tell friends and family that they should call me first. When the police arrive, they should quietly and respectfully explain that something very tramatic has happened, their thoughts are a mess, but they will be very happy to assist the officers after talking to their attorney (who is on the way). Then, shut up. Andy and Jerry might want to chime in here. But I have had so many clients that I could have defended better if they had not cooperated with the police by giving permission to search, trying to talk their way out of it, messing with evidence, etc. Let's face it. You just shot someone. Depending on the slant of the police and DA, you are half way to a convicted murderer or half way to a folk hero. Your attorney can help shape that. It would be a shame to win on the murder charge, but get convicted of tampering with evidence or some such. Worse, messing with things makes you look guilty and makes the police and DA surly. Not a good thing at that point. Alright. I'm only licensed in Alabama. If you are in actual need of legal advice, don't be stupid. Hire a good attorney who knows the law in your state. 12. Winner! Personally, I consider the man's button-down with nothing else about as sexy as it can get. Breakfast isn't necessary. 13. I'm all for reasonable reporting requirements. They are common sense and really shouldn't require laws. But today, right and wrong seems to be synonymous with legal and illegal, doesn't it? 14. Eh. Unless you believe in reincarnation, death is an absolute of some sort. It's easy for me to deal with. Being injured such that I am not dead, but can not enjoy my life the way I am accustomed to...that is truly scary. I have geat respect for those who are disabled during their lives and do not let it reduce their enjoyment of life. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.
  15. That would be consistent with what the US found after a ten year assault weapon ban. But let's not cloud the issue with facts. It didn't work before...we should try it again. 16. Squeak is a guy? I'm not trying to be funny or offensive. I really thought that was not the case. If I read the article correctly, adjusting my lights can help. But the design of the lights is different. It appears the US standard allows more light to spill into oncoming traffice than Euro standards. I can reduce the problem, but might not be able to eliminate it. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.
  17. Several thoughts on this.... I am prepared to die. I do not fear it. It can not be avoided. Fearing it is silly. While I am here, I intend to live. It is not true that you only live once. You only die once. You live every day of your life. Avoiding death by failing to live is wasting so much. Once I die (whenever I die) my problems are over. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.
  18. Yeah, I knew someone would make it personal. Makes me hesitant to seek opinions around here. That was meant to be a bit of humor, BTW. I thought it was obvious since I am actively seeking to resolve what is bothering these people I do not know. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.
  19. Ah. That seems to explain it. Thanks. If I read it correctly, there is little I can do. I'll keep reading, though. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.
  20. I have to have the vehicle inspected as part of registration. I was going to talk to them about whether the headlights needed adjusting. The interesting part is that the same thing happens on my motorcycle where height should not be an issue. So, I'm not sure I'm blinding anyone so much as they aren't use to US standards adjustments. Oh, yeah. It also pisses them off that I drive a Jeep and a sportbike. They drive skateboards and scooters. I have to wonder if that's part of it. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.
  21. Fair point. But I'm in a big ol' Jeep with big steel aftermarket bumpers. They are in a Fiat with four hamsters under the hood. lol So, you are recommending that I get past them, then fire the rear mounted shotgun to blow out their rear window? Oh, yeah. They also tend to tailgate. Sometimes I consider mounting flood lights pointed rearward for this problem, but they don't actually pose a risk unless something happens in front of me, so I let it go. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.
  22. Fair enough. I agree that prescription drug use is a problem. Where do you draw the line? We placed it in the hands of doctors. They don't seem to be telling their patients 'no' when they should. On the flip side, I think there are people who would benefit from some prescriptions and are not taking them for various reasons. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.
  23. I don't think schools have rules against using those prescriptions when under a doctor's care. It certainly doesn't rise to the level of doping when the rules are clear and there is testing to enforce the rules. It's a bit different. I see the similarities, but it is different. This guy cheated. It is clear enough that he is mincing words to avoid prosecution, lawsuits, and other consequences. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.
  24. So, I'm in Europe. My four door Jeep with 6in lift, rack and fog lights kind of stands out. I can live with that. The four wheel drive is very nice when the snow / ice comes around. I'm happy. I can deal with the bad drivers and tiny parking spots. Here's the issue: my lights are a good bit further off the ground than the average Euro car. So, these guys regularly think I have my high beams on when approaching on a dark road. They flash their lights at me. No problem. I flash mine back. To me, this makes it clear that my lights are not on high beam. How could they be on high beam if I have a higher beam? All too often, this results in them turning on their high beams and leaving them on. Sometimes, they start out with that and skip flashing their high beams. What is the proper response? Sometimes, I just ignore them after they turn their brights on. Sometimes, I turn mine on to make my point. If I'm having a bad day, I might hit the fog lights as well. They started it. It's getting annoying. I also notice they do it when I'm on my motorcycle. I suspect my US spec lights are brighter than theirs or might have a wider fan, so they extend into oncoming traffic more than Euro spec. But I've looked at other cars and asked the Europeans I work with. That doesn't appear to be the issue. Ideas? I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.
