If this had been MY thread: I was driving home yesterday, and was behind a guy in a Chevy PU. Decent truck, fairly new, good condition. Something on the toolbox slid off and hit the road tumbling. No they don't, unless you mean specifically lung cancer and specifically in relation to cigarette smokers. For everyone else they're still increasing your risk for a variety of wonderfully charming mouth and throat cancers. If you go overboard, the pipe stem in your mouth or cigar in your mouth can increase the liklihood of mouth cancer. Most anything in your mouth too much does the same. (don't tell the women) I consulted with a doctor and researched before taking up the pipe. With limited use and absence of inhaling, it reduces the risk of cancer of all types. The only study ever done that differentiated between pipe, cigar, and cigarettes found statistically significant differences. Pretty much every study that ever administered too much of anything to lab rats...found the tested substance to cause cancer. Go figure.
