  1. I can't get to the link from work. I'm trying to recall where I got it from...but generally a not-for-profit is not considered heavy in overhead until they are over 25%. ARC President is close to seven figures in salary. You haven't been snookered....anymore than anyone else who donates to large organizations. If you really want to make a difference, visit any retirement home, veterans home, etc. during the holidays. Take the children if they are well behaved. Call ahead of time to ask the staff what little gifts you could bring. Socks, lap blankets, large print books, etc are nice. It teaches the kids a great lesson and the folks there appreciate it. You don't get to write it off, but it really hits home. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.
  2. Hmmmm...I guess it's a point of view issue. This puts him in the running for best President in my book. He did something stupid that hurt people who volunteered for it (were equally stupid) and effected him more than anyone else. Since you don't mention what he signed, I'm guessing he did not raise taxes, create wide ranging useless programs, etc. And even if he did blame his predecessor for things, his term was short enough that he was probably right. His death caused problems for his party? That makes him a bad President? Nah! To poke you just a little more, the long held wive's tale that being in the cold rain makes you sick has long since been disproved. At great government expense, tests were done on volunteers. The researchers discovered that cold and water do not make you sick. Germs make you sick. Who knew? All in good fun, my friend. You could argue that this guy gave us nothing in return for the effort it took to put him in office, but I generally vote for people hoping they will screw things up less than the last person. That makes WHH a winner with me. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. 3. An old man goes into a confessional and says, "Father, I'm 96 years old. Yesterday, I picked up two college girls. I took them home and had crazy sex with them all night." The Priest asks him if he regrets his sins? The old man says, "Not one bit." The Priest asks, "What kind of Catholic are you that you don't regret your sins?" The old man says, "Catholic? I'm Jewish!" The Priest says, "Then why are you even telling me this?" The old man says, "Telling you? I'm telling EVERYONE!" 4. I was introduced to that place years ago. One of the very best ways to wake up in the morning. What's the name of the place where all the staff are gay guys in drag? That place had great breakfast. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. 5. I recommend legislation to 'tax' anyone who doesn't own a firearm and purchase ammunition regularly. Ammunition should be subsidized for those who can't afford regular trips to the range. Why should the burden of preparedness fall only on some? I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. 6. It has started getting colder in Belgium. They use radiators here. I was standing beside one after getting out of bed this morning and thought of floor furnaces. I remember having hash marks on my footy pajamas from standing on those things. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. 7. Mantas filter for their food like the large whales do. They are known to be very docile. Biggest threat from them is if they don't notice you and smack you or turn your boat over. Very cool dive! I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. 8. Formerly of NASA? I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.
  9. I can empathize. I particularly hate it when professionals who should know better don't understand the words they are using. I often hear broadcast journalists use the word 'literally' and then describe something figurative. 'New and improved' is a phrase that should never have been. Politicians are frequent abusers of the language, but I think that's intentional. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. 10. Ummmm....I hate to interrupt another silly argument...but I've searched for where I can get one of these devices and come up empty. Can you provide a a link, please? Christmas is coming, you know. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. 11. Am I the only one who still wants to be able to park in his living room like Dan Tanna did in Vega$? I find it funny when someone calls it a 'Rockford Slide' but doesn't know what the name means. Same with 'Daisy Dukes'. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. 12. "Researchers claim the creature could help unlock the secrets to a long life" Yup. Don't let scientists cut you open to see how old you are... "Ming's life came to an abrupt end seven years ago when scientists from Bangor University dredged the seabed near Iceland (pictured) as part of a study into climate change" Demonstrable negative effects of climate change... Re: discovering it was 100 years older than previously thought - ‘We got it wrong the first time and maybe we were a bit hasty publishing our findings back then,’ Paul Butler, from Bangor University, told ScienceNordic. Say it isn't so... I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. 13. It's been a long time since I heard a show start out with, "Tonight's special guest star..." I think Marcus Welby had that. Quincy might have. I forget. Who shot JR? 15. Nobody understands anymore when I start yelling "Danger Will Robinson! Danger!" I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.
  16. Downtown Julie Brown! Cell phones the size of bricks. Michael Jackson was black once (no kidding). He and his four brothers had a group and a cartoon show. Alan Alda said 'son of a bitch' on television and everyone was ok with it. Army Surplus stores carried Army surplus. Daisy Duke was a person, not a fashion term. Televisions were a piece of furniture that had to be polished. I never did quite figure out how to find the song I wanted on an 8 track, but they were kind of fun. Getting pictures developed took about a week. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. 17. I'm a very poor historian...even more so when it comes to the history of political parties. But I don't think there is any comparison between modern 'Democrat' or 'Republican' to those US parties who once went by the same names. In fact, I think there has been flip-flopping on the political spectrum over the years. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.
  18. Why not do a downhill on one of those roads that has a cliff on one side? Wear a BASE rig. If you take the turn too wide, it turns into a BASE jump. Actually sounds pretty fun to me. 19. Big party. Open bars everywhere. Live band. Male and female strippers. Open grave. One last jump; no parachute; grave is the target. Self-burial. It's going to be all the rage. To the one where the guy jumped out en route to the oil platform and took the life vest...WTF? I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.
  20. If you ignore the tripe we were taught in school and study the real George Washington, you will likely be very impressed. As a military leader, man's man, statesman, business man, and family man, he was impressive. As a philosopher and statesman, I'm most fond of Thomas Jefferson. But GW did things TJ never attempted. 21. Actually, by these standards, a good argument could be made for Abraham Lincoln. He started a war that resulted in the death of 2% of the US population. WWII only accounted for 0.3%. The merits of that war are still debated today. I doubt it bolstered US credibility world-wide. Harry Truman dropped the only two nuclear weapons ever used in anger...on civilian targets. FDR presided over Japanese Americans being treated like criminals for their ethnicity. If you want to look at personal conduct, you might consider Andrew Jackson. He was reported to have participated in dozens of duels behind the White House while he was President. He was known as Old Hickory because he carried a hickory stick to beat people with. Then, there's the whole Indian Removal Act. JFK's sexual appetites while in office were said to put Slick Willy to shame. Carter was a nice guy, but totally unsuited for the office. Teddy Roosevelt kept wild animals in the White House as pets. We've had our share of doozies. History will judge the more recent examples. But looking back in time, it's hard to say anyone during my lifetime is even in the running for 'worst'. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.
  22. Except that MC+SS still currently collect a couple trillion in revenue each year, whereas the military is purely a cost center (or if you will, job works program). The problem with this question of does the government every shut down a program is you can (and we're seeing it) say that X doesn't count. The OSS doesn't exist anymore. Replaced by the CIA. NASA since Goldin took over in 1991 is a shell of what it was during the Space Race and peak Shuttle years. Most nuclear weapons programs have been shuttered - we now merely maintain a much smaller cache of warheads. There's a huge difference between swapping out obsolete equipment and closing down programs, agencies, and the like. My point was that agencies and programs don't go away. Once the infrastructure is there, it just changes to another purpose. I've seen it from inside. When the original purpose goes away, the agency tries to re-create itself to stay alive. My conclusion was that it is highly unlikely Obamacare will just go away. Some people around here intentionally miss points (I'm being generous) and quibblle over semantics rather than acknowledge someone else's point; even when that point is not contrary to their own. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.
  23. The horse cavalry. You know, with real horsies. No points for you, Andy. The US Army doesn't count as the US Government. The realities of combat force changes in the military that the government is too removed from. And while I am not familiar with subsidies for horse breeders, we still provide subsidies for wool farmers because their wool was once used for military uniforms. We provide subsidies to bee farmers because their wax was once used to waterproof ammunition. Even though the military changed with circumstances, government programs march on blindly. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.
  24. To the original topic: Can anyone (without using google) cite a government agency, program, etc that was ever closed because it didn't work as intended, was outdated, cost too much, etc? I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.
  25. I agree, none of that makes any sense given historical migration/conquest patterns in Western Europe??? I've seen these results before. Makes sense to me. The phenotypes of the Celtic Crscent are different from England, so the genotype should be as well. Even today, these people tend to keep themselves segregated. It will be a while before they become truly homogenous. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet..
