I agree with everything you say at an individual level. I'm not sure anyone could commit identity theft with the US Government. If they could...should we interfere? Certainly they can't do worse. lol I agree with your assessment on tax cuts. I think we need to raise taxes and cut expenditures to close the gap and balance the budget. I think we need to start re-paying our debt. I am completely un-electable by either party's standards. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.

I can't say I've ever had a really bad date. But I have had dates that I wasn't really into. A female co-worker insisted that I go out with her friend. I contacted the friend and arranged to meet. We went mountainbike riding at a local state park. I met her at a neutral location and we took my Jeep to the trail. I took her on tame trails so she would enjoy it. We chatted along the way. Had lunch afterwards and more chat. Nothing wrong with it. There just wasn't anything there for me. I felt kind of bad about it. At work Monday, my co-worker told me her friend gushed about the whole thing. She thought I was great, loved my Jeep, loved biking, etc. Said it was her best first date ever. :/ I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.

Fracking jobs, because the energy companies said so in their websites and advertisements. Since watching the remake of Battlestar Galactica, I can't see the word 'fracking' without a completely different meaning popping in my head. Changes the meaning of your retort tremendously. When you live within your means, you don't need great credit or much credit at all. Moreover, if you live within your means and pay your bills on time, your credit tends to take care of itself. I am told I have a great credit rating. I don't check it. I have no need for it. What I said was, "You don't need a great credit rating if you stop using credit. If you balance the budget and start paying back your debts, I'm pretty sure that will go well for your credit rating." So...quit using credit and your credit rating is not as important. Get your house in order and pay your creditors; your credit rating will do better. And you take issue with this? I'm starting to see why we have a problem in the US. People think living in a budget deficit year after year is good. I don't think even John Maynard Keynes would have agreed his theories were perpetually applicable. I'm not a historian, but I've read a fair bit on this subject. The US Civil War is very popular with US Army Officers for study. As I understand it, the Southern states were using their cotton to get excellent deals with Europe on goods that directly competed with Northern goods. Northern states attempted to thwart this with import restrictions and tarrifs. At the same time, the abolitionist movement sought to undermine the financial underpinning of the Southern agrarian system. The Southern states left. After two years of war, the North was sick of it. They were not doing well. They had anticipated a very short skirmish before returning to normal. Lincoln was a devout believer in a federal government. He turned to the abolitionists to provide a moral pupose for his war. They responded. The information campaign that followed rallied the North and continued the war for a purpose it didn't really start out with. Today, we are taught in school that it was about slavery. Part of that is left over from the post-war abuse of the South that was so prevalent. Part of it is because it's hard to teach anyone that the root of most all wars is money. The people on this forum are adults...regardless of how some act. It's time to admit that wars are almost always about money. Pretending wars were morally just in the past is just silly. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.

Are we fucking kidding? What idiot thinks that never being able to sell 10 year bonds at or under 3% is a good plan? If we have to do the consumer analogy again - you have a credit card with 15k in revolving debt on it, but at a very low 6.9% rate. This month you decide paying the minimum on time is for suckers and you buy lottery tickets instead. Your rate is increased to 23.9%. Guess how much more you're paying now replacing maturing bonds. (just under 3 months before we get to have this lame debate again) Nobody said anything about the US having 'no' credit (except you). I'm not even sure that is possible. And if you are buying your bonds back (after the balanced budget), then you have a severely reduced need to sell them, don't you? So, you compared that to 'never' being able to sell bonds sub 3%. You seem to have a penchant for extremes. I recommended the very responsible act of living within our means. You compared that with the very irresponsible act of not paying your bills in favor of the lottery. Not sure how that worked out in your head. I'm not trying to be insulting in any manner. I'm just pointing out that you are using superlatives and analogies that don't work. Maybe we're just talking past each other. Not sure. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.

If I get a chance, I'll research this idea. Not sure I would take financial advice from the majority of Americans or the Pope. Bill Gates is smart, but didn't make his money investing in Wall Street. Warren Buffet is certainly credible. Given recent Nobel awards, I consider a Nobel a dark mark on an economist's credibility. I'm not saying the idea is good or bad. I'm just cynical about the list of experts you presented. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. Heh heh... Them Yankee boys are all going for it. I think that false sense of security is just about ripe. Of course, at this point, burning some of those Northern cities in retaliation for Atlanta would be doing you all a favor. Have you seen Detroit lately? Fixed. The federal government doesn't need to be involved with power lines, etc, only things that can't be handled at the state or local level. I have always maintained that government is the least efficient means of doing anything and therefore must be restricted to things that can't be done at a lower level. The individual level is best. I think Wendy is remembering an old bit of prose from WWII. I can't cite it from memory, but you will remember it when you read, "They came for the Jews and I did nothing because I was not a Jew". I have also long maintained that I don't want to tell anyone else how to live their lives because I don't want them telling me how to live mine. Don't do anything that hurts others, including stealing their money through taxes, and we'll get along fine. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.

Will there be a second civil war in the USA? Hard to say. Some historians suggest that only about 10% of the population participated in the American Revolution. According to this poll, three times that percentage of this forum think something is going to happen. I think pressure for change is more significant in our country now than ever before in my lifetime. I think something is going to give. Perhaps in an explosive manner. Whether that will involve acts of violence or not remains to be seen. I hope not. But the use of violence against non-combatants has become pretty popular worldwide lately. It seems many people are 'mad as hell and not going to take it anymore'. The question is, who are they taking it from? How do they thwart their nemesis? They apparently blow themselves up in a public forum to express their frustration with no clear purpose in mind. I think the mass fraud media and the belief that anything on the internet must be true has lead to the best misinformed public in history. They say wars begin when politicians lie to the media and then believe what they hear in the news. How much more so when the media helps in the lie? I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.

Everyone agreed to take on a shiney new credit card and assume a pork filled budget that uses it. Why don't I feel like rejoicing? According to this site http://www.usdebtclock.org/ midnight is way too late. We will either have a raised debt ceiling or a balanced budget in a few hours. If they can't go on credit anymore, that means they have to balance the budget, right? I'm ok with that. You don't need a great credit rating if you stop using credit. If you balance the budget and start paying back your debts, I'm pretty sure that will go well for your credit rating. Let's watch and see what happens. Since the sequester didn't cause the sky to fall as predicted; the government shutdown didn't cause the sky to fall as predicted; I'm guessing this notional deadline passing will not result in the sky falling either. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.

Hijack alert.... I thought the debt limit was a number. How does it run out at midnight? It just flashed into my mind that this is being broadcast everywhere, but makes no sense. I've been so repulsed by the lies about default that I missed this non-sequitur. A little help. Is the debt limit a number with a specified time period of authority to use it? If so, we are not talking about raising the limit, but extending the authority. Nobody is saying that. With no current budget, what is the authority to spend anyhow? We still have money flowing in. The only bills that are being paid should be those that were obligated under a previous budget. Too many lies for me to keep track of. I'll quickly point out that every poll I have seen agrees that it is the American People who do not want Obamacare. I'm undecided on where I stand regarding the Republican gamesmanship. Both parties do it routinely. Hard to throw stones when they all live in glass houses. Oddly, it doesn't seem to dissuade any of them. The real problem in my eyes is this: nobody is leading us toward a solution. Nobody is even discussing a balanced budget. For that matter, nobody is discussing passing a budget. They are only talking about passing stop-gap measures and borrowing more money. I'm against both. But I seem to a terribly small minority who thinks we should have a balanced budget and live within our means. Political games. Temper tantrums. Blame. Death. Doom. Destruction. Distraction worthy of a great illusionist IMO. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. I'm reminded of two things... 1. A scene in 'V for Vendetta' where the government elite are discussing the results of the government listening into private conversations, monitoring what people are saying on the internet, etc. 2. The NSA is actually doing these things. Seems polls are no longer needed except to manipulate the masses. The government already has the true data. Just a random thought train. They are all winning. Both sides will declare victory and both sides will be right. They will still be in power and we will be further in debt. They win. We lose. Been away a while. Got banned or something. Taking away the Government's credit card does not keep them from paying the bill on prior purchases. It does not automatically lead to default. It DOES force them to balance the budget. Which party is advocating that? Nobody. They aren't even talking about passing a budget. People don't seem to realize that. They are talking about passing a CRA. That's what they do every year to make up for the fact that they collectively failed the one task they had to do before 1 October. They failed to pass a budget. It's been about 20 years since they got that one thing right. All of this has been a huge distraction. The underlying problem is that they are collectively incompetent to do the most basic of governmental tasks and there is no true leadership going on. Each side is fixing the blame. Nobody is fixing the problem. They haven't even admitted what the problem is. Tempest in a teacup to avoid the real problem. Pass a balanced budget. Solves everything. Stop funding research to see if goats sleep. Stop paying Hollywood types farm subsidies. Stop paying to develop military equipment the military doesn't want. OH, yeah...and raise taxes. One party wants to lower taxes. The other wants to raise spending. Pop quiz - which of these activities leads to a balanced budget? Neither. To balance the budget, we have to raise taxes AND reduce spending. Don't give me a bunch of BS about how large scale economies actually increase revenues by increasing spending or how reducing taxes causes the economy to grow and raises revenues. I've had the graduate level courses. I've watched the applications. There are lots of contested theories. They haven't done us any good. One thing works...Fewer expenditures and greater revenues = a balanced budget. These folks need to quit trying to manipulate the economy for political purposes. Really...they aren't nearly bright enough. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.
