I want to get one of those signs like they have on semi's to put on the top-back of my canopy "If you can't see my eyeballs, I can't see you" But seriously... You can reduce that blind spot a little by tilting your head back and looking up past the back edge of your canopy. I ain't happy, I'm feeling glad I got sunshine, in a bag

Lower person has the right of way... but... do you really want to use that as your argument when you're falling a couple hundred feet to the earth wrapped in someone's main? You should be looking all around you under canopy this includes behind you and above you As you turn to final, look where you're turning, and look to the right (assuming you're turning left to final) to mkae sure you're not going to cut right in on someone that's making a longer final approach - if it looks like you're going to, turn in earlier so you never cross their path or end up in front of them. Canopy's do create a wake behind them, be mindful of that. And remember, this isn't driving a car, you have to do more than glance to the left, right, or behind you. Know where everyone is at, even if you are supposed to have the right of way. To see what happens when people assume the other person is seeing them/looking out for them http://www.skydivenet.com/fatalities/fatalities_us_01.html --- take note of #28 and #29 I ain't happy, I'm feeling glad I got sunshine, in a bag

You want the reason or where I got it from? I heard it from someone who lived in Canada at the time. This was a number of years ago. The thought behind it was: What's valuable in your bathroom? Nothing. If the intruder was in there, he was coming after you, your life is/was in danger. Guns aren't going away. I'd love for every gun on the earth to disappear (and send my girlfriend to martial arts training) but that's not going to happen any time soon, so until then, I will be all for responsible gun ownership and the right to carry it. Oh, well, I love to be rebuffed.... In an earlier post, I said your statistics were meaningless in the way they were presented. You didn't give anything else to compare to, or say what the other 25 countries were, or give total number of deaths in children under 15. It also just said "played a role" were they hunting accidents? Kids shooting kids? Adults shooting kids? A child caught in the cross-fire of a drive-by shooting? And the percentages didn't seem like they meant much, they're just there to be numbers and frighten people to make a point - that's why in my response I factored out suicides (if someone wants to kill themselves, whether or not they used a gun is irrelevant) And what does the fire arm death rate of children have anything to do with guns being allowed? It's playing on people's sympathy "the poor innocent children" ... when in fact we have a problem with violence among our young. Guns being around did not cause our young people to be violent. I think I just completely rambled on that one... hope it made a little sense. Oh, and it was later on (after I posted that) that you cited your source, complete with what countries it was being compared to, etc... so that made it a little better. Buff.... err... rebuff away! edit: And since when can't you have a gun in Canada? Canada has some of the better ones I've heard of. If I remember right, I was told once that in Canada the only room of the house that you are allowed to shoot and kill an intruder is the bathroom. It was something to that effect... that was a while ago. Makes perfect sense though. Any one verify that for me? My memory is fading in my old age. That's funny, I'm pretty sure we did that before!! I think Vi won though (as it should, it's obviously superior) I ain't happy, I'm feeling glad I got sunshine, in a bag

I thought they did.... didn't one of them (or they got a friend to, maybe that was it) bought guns at a gun show. (don't get me started on gun shows, I do think most of those should be shut down) I do completely agree with you about responsible ownership. I think gun locks and locked cabinents are a must for any gun owner. I ain't happy, I'm feeling glad I got sunshine, in a bag

jfields - I was saying the context in which used those stats made them meaningless, not that fact that a lot of kids die from guns. Guns did not cause two wackos to go around their school shooting it up. If those two demented children wanted to kill a bunch of thier classmates, they didn't need guns to do it. They knew how to make pipe bombs, and used those, they could have stabbed them, poisoned them, run over them with a car, burnt the school down, used a bow and arrow, gassed the place, run a semi into the building... there's plenty of ways to kill people. Did having guns make it easier? Maybe. Did the popularity of violence in America coupled with parents who probably didn't give a shit help? Without a doubt. So you think if they wouldn't have had access to guns, a lot of innocent kids wouldn't have died that day? I ain't happy, I'm feeling glad I got sunshine, in a bag

Let's say by some miracle, every gun in the world disappeared. Do you really crime and murders would stop? Or even drop considerably? As pointed out above - if people want to kill/rob/rape people, they will. Your statistics about children aren't really signifigant. If kids want to kill themselves, they don't need a gun, So, if we say 730 children died (what year were these stats? And where did you find them, I can't seem to) from gun-related homicides and accidental deaths caused by guns. Ok.. and? How many died because they didn't wear a helemt on their bike? How many children under 15 died in total that year? What 25 other countries are you comparing it to? I'll bet I could easily find 25 other coutries that the U.S.'s under 15 population is 12 times their combined total. You keep pointing out that guns kill people. Guns also protect people. You'll never be able to just make guns go away, it won't happen. "A Department of Justice-sponsored survey found that 40% of felons had chosen not to commit at least one specific crime for fear their victims were armed, and 34% admitted being scared off or shot at by armed victims. U. S. Department of Justice victimization surveys show that the protective use of a firearm lessens the chance that a rape, robbery or assault attempt will be successfully completed and also reduces the chance of injury to the intended victim." Let's say your girlfriend gets attacked, with the guy intent on raping/robbing/killing her. Neither of them have a gun. What do you really think is going to happen? Now give her a gun - I'm not even saying she's going to use it and kill the guy, but he's not risking his life for a few bucks or to do what he wants to do with her. I know everyone has thier personal beliefs on this, and no one is going to change anyone else's mind, but it's fun ain't it? I ain't happy, I'm feeling glad I got sunshine, in a bag

Remi - Ok, I think we have two different views to look at here. The first one is extreme laws (like England) the second being CCW laws (like Texas) Here's the US vs England argument. I'll get to the CCW stuff when I get time later. (See attached) The graph for murder isn't there, I didn't see it with the rest of this stuff, but the murder rate is higher in the US, it's been dropping, getting closer to England's level. It is interesting: "Firearms are more often involved in violent crimes in the United States than in England. According to 1996 police statistics, firearms were used in 68% of U.S. murders but 7% of English murders, and 41% of U.S. robberies but 5% of English robberies. " So again, if people want to do bad, they don't need a gun. Just because there's no guns around doesn't mean you're safer I ain't happy, I'm feeling glad I got sunshine, in a bag

That's what I meant, enforce the laws we have, not make more. I ain't happy, I'm feeling glad I got sunshine, in a bag

K.. just moving this out of the other thread for those who wish to discuss. Any points to make? Besides "Ban it like they did in England" because contrary to the belief that was stated in that thread, that didn't really help over there. Robbery, assault, car theft, etc has risen steadily there while it's stayed pretty even here in the states. I think we should do a little better about who can easily get a gun. I also think more states need to pass CCW laws. Not just because I want to be able to carry a weapon, but because it appears crime rates have dropped in those states, with no increase in accidental shootings because of it. Nahhh.. they'll do go arounds, they just don't like Phreezone It's not a policy, it's just sorta discouraged for fear that people will get go-around happy, and call go arounds all the time. But if it's really needed, the pilots are more than willing to do it. I ain't happy, I'm feeling glad I got sunshine, in a bag

In their defense - it's not always their fault (lots of small groups) and if it is, and you ask them nicely to shorten it up a bit, they usually do. I ain't happy, I'm feeling glad I got sunshine, in a bag

Always to the right? Make sure you're not dipping a shoulder at pull time. Might not be a packing thing, might be a body position thing. I ain't happy, I'm feeling glad I got sunshine, in a bag

Ya beat me to that one, bu tyou missed this one: 25. Nothing says "I love you" like sex. It should read 25. Nothing says "I love you" like jump tickets and/or gear. I ain't happy, I'm feeling glad I got sunshine, in a bag

I put about a dozen jumps on one already. The openings on all of them were so soft it was scary. It did open one time into a turn. It was weird, it flew straight for a second, then made about a 90 degree right turn, I thought for a second a toggle came unstowed. That was really the only opening problem I found, and I just chaulked that one up to bad body position, weird wind, gonads, strife, or the will of the gods. ya know, that thought did cross my mind. It sure would explain a lot. If it's a troll, it's world class material. If not, maybe we should all show some patience! (skydivers? patient?! phht) I ain't happy, I'm feeling glad I got sunshine, in a bag

I think they'll come after me first... a few weeks ago I exceeded the posted speed limit by about 80 mph. Had to test the camera helmet somehow! On the upside, had I gotten pulled over, I would have gotten it all on video - and we know it's all about the video. I ain't happy, I'm feeling glad I got sunshine, in a bag

My name is Phreezone, and I've recently inpersonated someone having a birthday at Friday's in order to get free helium ballons. I'm ashamed of myself, please punish me. I ain't happy, I'm feeling glad I got sunshine, in a bag

I got kicked out of a bowling alley... does that count as a "mishap"? It involved skydivers (go figure) and beer (go figure) I ain't happy, I'm feeling glad I got sunshine, in a bag
