the resource kit - they have some you can download, but to get everything you have to buy it. I was slightly confused as to why 'kill' wasn't there anymore, or listed as one of the tools on the 'paid for version' Evidently it's now called 'pskill' and it's included in win2k. There's also 'pslist' which is a command line way to list running processes. If those don't work, I have the old version of kill and tlist that I've continued to use on win2k and I can send on. It will still try port 80. Reduced functionality, but it will still work. As I said before - for cheap, dirty, and easy - I'd add bogus static routes or entries in the hosts file. Check the resource kit. There is a command line "kill" command. If you can't find it, I'll send it to you. Does exactly what you want it to do. Instead of kill -9, it's kill -f

You've got an apple that's sharing files off the 2000 pro machine? Or it's running network apps like other clients? In any case, it shouldn't affect anything. How many workstations are you working with that you want to restrict like that? If it's only a few, there's some cheap and dirty ideas like playing with hosts files and adding static routes that would only take a few seconds to do, and not cost you anything. They might still be able to download it, but it could probably stop them from actually using it. it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality

Anyone have the Feb-Mar-April-ish issue of Parachutist from... I *think* it was 2001. Right after the winter where there were 3 or 4 fatalities in Florida, I think all visiting jumpers. I still remember that article about currency. Anyway - if you have it, read it again. Was an excellent article. One big point I've remembered since reading it was - let's say you take a couple months off (like winter up north) you get back that first warm weekend, and you're super-careful for the first 3 or 4 jumps. That's not usually when people get hurt. it's number 10, 11, 12, 13, 14.... right about the time you start thinking "Yeah, I remember how to do this" and get too comfortable. Eh? What kind of conflicts? Disabling ports probably won't work - IIRC, MSN can use 80. As far as disabling certain programs or downloading of stuff, you'll probably want to setup a policy. You running AD? it's like incest - you're substituting convenience for quality
