Don't ask for serial numbers...that might tip him off. Tell him it's prolly worth $1000.00 or so, but you need some pics to be certain, then circulate the pics around to see if anyone is missing the gear. Jon I usually ask for a photo of the data panel. It is a good idea to get a detail photo of this regardless because it has good indication of wear and tear on canopy (some well worn canopies are illegible) and verification of the dom. Act interested in buying it. Tell him you can find out how much it is worth but need some serial numbers... then check stolen gear sites here and at USPA. I have had gear stolen and it sucks. The thing is at this point if I ever "found it" it has surely passed hands a couple times and the person who has it probably has no idea it is stolen. I went 7 years without making a jump and went right back into the swing of things. My first jump back was a three way RW jump (one was an AFF Instructor - so that counts as make a jump under supervision of an instructor). It was also under my own gear. I have a D License and felt like I picked up right where I left off. Just like riding a bike! :) Have fun. Enjoy. Don't let so much time pass again! After the latest road trip to Summerfest, I have some more to offer: * Balcony of apartment complex... not private. * CVS in Bloomington, IL on way to Summerfest (did you know you need to get a code for the bathroom?!) * In a tent at Summerfest (and interupted twice!) * Pool at Holiday Inn Express in Ottawa, IL * Hot Tub at Holiday Inn Express in Ottawa, IL (disclaimer while activities took place in the pool and hot tub the actually finish of it was back in the room... so no bodily fluids contaminated the pool and hot tub) * I65 somewhere between Chicago and Indianapolis. I definitely recommend school. I made my first eight jumps while I was a junior in college. I couldn't really afford to jump so I stopped until after I graduated and had a really well paying job.
