I just demo'd a 168 Pilot last weekend. I loved the powerful flare. I think it just nudged the Saber2 out of the way as my favorite canopy. I think the ZPX coating is worth the extra cost too.

So I have a little over 100 jumps & am interested in getting a tracking suit. I saw these sick looking Birdman Tracking pants with a a small wing in the crotch area that a jumper was wearing last weekend. It is probably too much for someone at my level. Any recommendations on a first pair of tracking pants / suit for someone with ~100 jumps? Birdman vs. Pheonix Fly vs. Tube3. I tried checking the websites but the info was limited.

+1 at my Dropzone also. It seems people who still smoke are almost embarassed by it. Everyone I see at my DZ sneaks far away to have a smoke. It isn't an issue here. We just don't want ya to see WHAT we're smokin'! lol I don't think they are embarrassed by it at my home DZ but all of the smokers are respectful. It's is not an issue there either. In fact if they saw anyone smoking near gear I think most if not all of the smokers at my DZ would yell at anyone just as quick as those of us that don't suck on the cancer sticks.

There was live music. It was nice to have a rear exit plane to jump out of. The speed of the Casa seemed to vary alot depending on the load. First jump in the morning I think it was faster than the King Air. When it was full, I would rather jump out of the King Air. The boogie was alot of fun overall.

Well that's not OK. I have alot of respect for the instructors and coaches there. They should be paid more, not stiffed.

Video with speed, elevation displayed

Thanks. That video looks sweet: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lkOkY4PmpI8&feature=player_embedded At :50, it appeared to have gone from 200 ft. to 99 ft.... It looks like it went from 200ft to 199ft to me. The resolution is not the best but I am hoping that is more from youtube than the software. I wonder if the contour 2+ version is going to be more or less accurate. -

There may be nor requirement to talk to them but isn't it better to let the ATC know when a load of jumpers are going up so they can inform any traffic?

I agree with the global warning part. You are way off on second hand smoke though. It is a carcinogen. It's a free country & do what you want. Just don't be an ass & subject other to it.

The new ad for the contour 2+ states that it now also embeds “rich data” like speed, elevation and distance via a built-in GPS receiver as part of the recording. All of this can be edited and fused via their Storyteller app. Does this mean that you can play back your video with your speed & elevation being displayed on the video? Are there any skydiving videos like this? I've never seen one like that. -
Thanks.

I saw a jumper wearing a pair of pressurized tracking pants. He said they inflate through air inlets/vents. I have heard that you should have at least ~300 jumps prior to flying a wingsuit. I know I have seen jumpers with less than 100 jumps wearing tracking pants. How many jumps before you even consider tracking pants?

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to look into these rolls.

PLFing off of a 16 ft wall! I need to get to that point.
-
Couldn't agree more. In hindsight, I could have landed the pop up much better & avoided the need for a PLF.
-
...................................................................... AH yes! You brought back some fond memories from the winter of 1981, at the Canadian Army's Airborne Center, in Edmonton. For the first two weeks we alternated between push-ups and PLFs. Then we jumped for two days. I think I could use a training program like this.
-
"Crap...Stick limbs out" Yep. That's exactly what my brain did.
-
Now that I think of it, I was never able to PLF in my sleep.. and it always bothered me.. especially when I read a story about a more experienced jumper seriously hurting themselves & only later learning to PLF well.
-
I practice them every time I do a FJC. ..... Yeah FJC was probably the last time I really practiced PLFs well.
-
that was awesome.

That's good advice. Read while you are away & do re-currency training when you get back. Thank you for your service btw.
-
+1. I had less than 40 jumps when I took a 4 year break so I may be overemphasizing this but re-currency training is important. It wasn't until I was in the air that I realized that it was NOT like riding a bike... at least not for me. After relaxing & not trying to do too much I felt much better.

I thought I knew how to PLF until yesterday when I needed it. Downsized to a smaller canopy (still relatively large)... tried to avoid traffic & ended up on runway. No big deal I thought. I've landed on the runway as a student without a problem. Then I got a pop up towards the end of my flare and my PLF turned into a somersault thing with my body pivoting off of my forearm. Surprisingly I walked away without a problem but I realized it could have been much worse. How often do experienced jumpers practice PLFs? Do you practice them on landings even if not needed once in a while?
