UPDATE: They got my N3 at Alti-2 and emailed me. Apparently I removed the little static electric label that comes on the LCD screen and put it on the back of the unit. I don't remember doing this but I did unpack and assemble it in a rush. The back of the altimeter has two holes on it. One is for the speaker. The other is for the pressure sensor. The sicker may have created an airtight seal. I don't even remember doing this but I was rushing. So hopefully this will prevent someone else from being careless with their gear. They are still testing the unit for any other issues. Ok. Flame on. I deserve it.

I called Barbara on Mon & just got my loaner alti today (wed). Now if you can do something about the weather in NY, I can jump Fri. Seriously though, Great customer service.

Just got off the phone with them. They seemed concerned & asked me to ship the unit to them. They said they would cover the return shipping to me since it is such a new unit. When I explained that this is my only functioning altimeter, she said they would try to send me a loaner altimeter immediately. I am sorry this problem requires me to ship the unit to them but the customer service does seem reasonable.

Thanks but I tried this with no results I'm contacting them today. Should have verified the 0.0. It's on me. I should have been more familiar with the device.

I did the SW RESET (MENU>SYSTEM ADMIN>SW RESET>OK). It restarted but the QNE is still very high >5,000 ft now. Next I did the RESET with the paperclip and got the same results. It did turn on on the ground. It just shut off before I got into the plane. I definitely should have been more familiar with this before jumping it.

I was going to make my first jump with my ne N3. Last time I wore a new altimeter I used another one on my right wrist as a backup. I wish I did this time too. The manual states that there is no need to turn on the N3 & it should turn on when the plane takes off. After ~1,000 ft and no signs of life I got nervous & pressed some buttons. I got to the alti screen but it read 0.0 at ~1,600 ft & it wasn't changing. Fortunately a more experienced jumped switched altimeters with me. When I got to the ground he told me that he got the altitude corrected on the plane but the QNE is now ~8,000ft on the ground in NY! I found a similar situation on the alti's forum (only the QNE was 190ft) but it states that it should not be zero bc it is not the Altitude, it is the pressure altitude and it is supposed to tell you how high you are above sea level. I checked with 3 other jumpers on the ground that have N3s and they all read between -60 to -90ft. Not even close to my ~8,000. Any ideas on how to fix it? I just downloaded and installed the Paralog with NMU functionality but it won't connect to my N3. Overall not a good experience with my N3 so far.

This was my first experience at any tunnel so take my review for what it is. I went there with the intention of getting coached on si flying. I ended up just getting coached on back bc hey like o make sure you can fly in all directions in belly & back prior to moving on to sit. After 32min of coaching over 2 hours, I still need more back coaching but I still learned so much there is no question it was worthwhile. Kenny was my coach & I would recommend him to anyone. The only thing I didn't like is that I only booked for 15min. They gave me an additional two min at the end of my 1st session at a reduced price. When I decided to add another 15min they charged me another $240 (original 15min was $270). So they gave me $30 off but if I had booked the 30min at one time it would have been $475 for 30min instead of the $510 I paid for it. Maybe this is how all of the tunnels work. At any rate it was only another $35 and I will definitely be back. Also my muscles were so tired I didn't get as much as I could have out of the last 5min of the day. Next time I will book 30min again but I will spread it out over more time.

I think the instructor usually provides the suit for the course, and if you do it at z-hills then there is a huge chance that it will be a wicked wingsuit you use. Think Robert Harris is offering the course there now. Any instructor who doesn't have suits is an instructor you'll want to avoid. That said, we've had a few students show up here with Wicked Wingsuit rentals for post-FFC training, and most of them have been quite pleased. All the suits I've seen come through here have been in good repair. The *only* issue I've seen with the suits is a couple that have been poorly sized, and in one case two years ago, created severe problems for the student (he put 3" foam blocks in the toes to shorten the suit). Good to know that. ty

Thanks. That's what I was looking for. I just applied as well, buying it solo stunk, got terrible rates; groups tend to get better coverage for sure Being part of the USPA doesn't qualify us as a group? Alot of professions (ex, actors) form unions that help with issues like this. Maybe that is something at least people who work in skydiving could do.

Think Robert Harris is offering the course there now. This is true. In most cases we prefer renters to already have taken a FFC and have a handful of flights. Sometimes the instructors don't have suits available so we will rent to a student if we know more about their plans. There are a few dropzones that happen to have a supply of our suits on hand, they include: Zhills, Skydive Dallas, Moab Over The Edge and Skydive Interlakken. Zhills and Interlakken have the advantage of not only having I-Bird (beginner) suits but a full range up to S Bird available. Last year we ran the school in Zhills because we had plans that kept us there over the winter. Rob Harris is running the school this year. Great. Thanks for all of info and quick reply.

Has anyone here rented a Wicked Wingsuit to take the first flight course at Z-hills? How was it? Any advice for someone thinking about doing it this winter? Anything unexpected?

Does anyone know if there is a competitively priced Life Insurance policy geared toward skydiving related deaths at USPA DZs? When I say competitively priced I just mean not 5-10x the price of a policy of a non-skydiving related death.

Great Job! Thanks for posting. Makes me want to go to the wind tunnel right now. If the tunnels were more business savvy they would post progression videos like this showing skydivers how much improvement can be made in such a relatively short time. Good job!

M home DZ is ~80 mi away. I have 6 other DZs all approx. 100mi away in spread out over NY, NJ & PA. What is the best way to check the weather at all of the DZs so I can decide where I want to jump if he weather is sketchy at my home DZ? Weather Underground? Weather.GOV? Is there a way to program in all 5 DZs so I can check them all out at a glance?

A live monkey trained to use a nikon. lmao -
They definitely are. That was what kept it from coming completely loose, I think. Good to know. Thank you.
-
Good point. I know how it sounds after reading the "incident" I posted but I did have an instructor check it out throughly and after checking it out on the ground, I can't figure out how it came so loose. At any rate it pushed me to get my own rig which was long overdue.

that is sick. camera guys rock.

Thanks for posting the shots of the the helmet mounted RED & Panny3d. I have never seen anyone wearing either of those. Do you have any stock photos you can post so I can get an idea of the max quality that can be obtained from a Red or Panny3d?
-
Now that I know what I Red camera is, I see i mentioned everywhere. Here is a line from the shooting of Iron Man3: "....was the camera operator, shooting the scene while free-falling and wearing a helmet-mounted Red camera." http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/behind-screen/iron-man-3-red-bull-452228
-
Just google Hot Air Balloon. Many of the operators will take you but they won't advertise it for obvious reasons.
-
Yes. Quality was the main reason I asked because I recently saw the photos at http://www.basedreams.com/ & was taken back by the quality... as well as the background scenery. I understand that these photos were shot from the ground but it made me curious about the max quality you can get from a jumpable camera.

Good point. It's all relative. It's a good value... with the right professional who knows how to use it.
