What US DZs Offer Hand Cam Tandem Vid
likestojump replied to skydived19006's topic in Tandem Skydiving
What kind of photo quality do you get with that set up? Sounds like good money to the TI from over here. Here's a GoPro still in full res. http://www.aircapitaldropzone.com/images/GOPR0176.JPG How many of your shots from the same jump turn out that nice ? As I understand that a shot every 2 seconds will generate at least a few keepers, am I right ? Got any examples with overcast skies and dying light ? -
how would flying in half brakes HELP getting back from a long spot ???

What's your preferred flght time measuring device(s) ?
likestojump replied to likestojump's topic in Wing Suit Flying
It does record, you can download the data and figure out what happened, pretty much. Stalled out the Protrack (well, being that they still don't go past 119seconds, they are useless for logging:(), stalled out the Neptune2, and the AltiTrack. Using Ghost2 and X-bird.... downloading data/video seems to be the only solution so far ... -
Lanky guy looking for advice on containers
likestojump replied to NoValidTitle's topic in Gear and Rigging
from selling gear (lots of it) I can tell you that your chances of finding a rig that will fit you well is very slim. However, you can still get a rig that will work for you, and just re-size the harness/laterals. It will cost you $250-$500. Alternatively a you may want to buy a new container, and find used canopies. Most threads here are about big boys unable to find gear, but any (pardon the use of the word) abnormal body type has those issues. good luck ! -
you are referring to BlakeM (base424) doing that at former Tahoe, the video is on youtube somewhere...
-
bullshit. you are just lazy. you claim to be a big boy - you are 5'8" 185# - that's nothing out of the ordinary for someone living in the US, perhaps a bit chubby, but that's it. you keep referring to riding motorcycles like you are some big shot biker. Got any accomplishments to prove that ? Got you name plastered all over the internet (I don't mean postwhoring in a MC forum) ? Completed 50CC (not cubic centimeters) ? Completed Iron Butt ? Rode to a bunch of rallies ? Got cool pics of yourself riding ? As of right now you have over 2800 posts since registering 18 months ago, and most of them are in the Bonfire, most on topics unrelated to skydiving. Spend more time reading pertinent info, and less time posting. blah...

hey Shah, just the other day I suggested to stop acting helpless. I see you don't listen. here are 16 pages of results that come up after you search for "best container" : http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=search_results&search_forum=all&search_string=best+container&search_type=AND&search_fields=s&search_time=&search_user_username=&sb=score&mh=25 Any name brand builds a good rig. • Some people will swear by Racers (I am sure a certain individual will chime in this thread with Jumpshacks website address and something along the lines "everything you need right there"). • Those in PNW will tell you that if you are not jumping an Infinity you are cheating yourself. • Others will tell you that you are suicidal for jumping a Mirage. • Some will tell you that your life will be 10x safer if your container had a Skyhook. Of all the current production models - they are all good - do the research and decide for yourself !

What's your preferred flght time measuring device(s) ?
likestojump replied to likestojump's topic in Wing Suit Flying
As quiet as this forum is right now, maybe I can get some useful info :) Since upgrading to Ghost2 I keep stalling out the Protrack and the Neptune2. So far the only reliable "timer" I found was my video camera. A guy here flying an X-bird just wears a stop timer (yes, for real). has anyone found something that works ? -
They have SOME good info and some bad. Just because it comes from PD does not make it an absolute. Just look at this:http://www.thepdblog.com/pdblog/2010/09/video-line-stow-myth.html Terrible info! If you are going to refute a Myth, try not to show the myth in the video..... MEL all subjective. I feel that if one has the free time, there's lots of good info to be found : http://www.performancedesigns.com/education.asp line stow myth ? Well, let's see... Back when fat dacron lines were joined together by 308 stitch instead of fingertrapped, the cascades had a very good probability of hanging up in the tight locking stow rubberbands. Today in the world of mostly thinner and fingertrapped lines, the same cascades have a very small chance of hanging up in a proper sized rubber band. No myth, but simple observation. Myth ?- obviously not, it's a fact that it has happened, and can happen. Is it something to be deathly scared of ? - probably not, better to understand the problem and set your dbag up in a way to minimize the possibility of occurrence.

rigger said... packers said... I'll ask them... Where are all those mental crutches going to be to help you pull the reserve handle ? Surely you can go to PDs site and read up on the Navigator. Though this just further promotes your helplessness, in the spirit of getting you to at least read what the maker says, click on this : http://www.performancedesigns.com/products.asp?product=na and read what the manufacturer has written about the canopy. Get off your ass, and do the things that you CAN do. Stop complaining about being a big boy with a piece of metal in you. I got a 245lbs friend flying a 300 main, and a 215lbs friend flying a Velo79 and he has titanium in his leg. I have not heard either one of those guys ever complain or act as helpless as you sound in these forums.

no, the Navigator that you jump is a Hybrid - it has ZP topskin, and F111 bottom skin. So it flies more like a ZP canopy, but packs more like an F111. Their other hybrid canopies are the Silhouette and the Pulse. Please be more proactive about learning your gear. You cannot come to an internet forum every time you need an answer. PD has an AWESOME site, with lots of information and great articles. etc, etc.

let's not diss the F111. There are still quite a few people who jump F111 mains and like 'em. I have a 125lbs friend who progressed 218/190/170 all F111 - because she liked how easy they are to pack, and how inexpensive they were to procure with low jump numbers (all because of those F111-haters :) imagine a 155lbs low timer who has $400 to spare and is about to kill themselves out of packing frustration. would you rather : a) have them quit b) have them sell a kidney and buy a Sabre2-190 (and struggle packing it) c) have them buy a Sabre-190 with 1000 jumps and a shitty set of lines d) have them buy a very low jump PD190/PD210 I tend to think option D deserves consideration
-
Well that's tool talk. And be offended all you want, but why the hell did you WASTE the sellers time and make him a $2K offer when you weren't ready to proceed ?
-
As far as it being ZP/hybrid/F111 - I got an idea - ASK THE SELLER ! As far as Reflex container - my personal opinion is that they are nice and good for everything out there. Structure Fire was a pretty hot SoCal Freefly team that was all Reflex (IIRC), that should say something.

harness resizing can be done different ways : a harness built without articulation, where in order to change the MLW length you have to unpick (cut) the MLW to lateral junction and then sew it back up at a different point. it could be a hip ring only, where you need a complete harness rebuilt it could have rings at the hips and chest - then just that piece needs to be replaced on both sides. It involves a lot more work than people realize :) Keep in mind that while your MLW length and lateral lengths can be changed somewhat easy in some instances, the yoke cannot be changed. My guess is that a C yoke is just too big for you and will be uncomfortable. good luck !

camera on a tripod long exposure lens cap once the lighting hits, cap the lens and close the shutter works well if it's extremely dark :)

Malfunction/Cutaway & Ground Crash Video
likestojump replied to ridestrong's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I know I am resurrecting an old thread/post. But... there was just a fatality that has been caused by GoPro directly. read here : http://www.basejumper.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2931621#2931621 -
I probably shouldn't stick my nose into an area I know little about, but my naive question is, how does one know that a 1500' pull is wrong? (Or is it in the FAR's? I can't recall.) Somewhere I read Lodi isn't USPA, and I don't know if pull altitudes are printed on the back of Lodi's famous little waiver tickets. So where does one learn the special Lodi rules? I checked their web site, and can't find any rules for experienced jumpers. Nothing about pull altitudes, wingsuits, hook turns, or whatever. Presumably there is a board in a hangar somewhere with some rules. But can they cover an equivalent for every USPA rule, on who can jump a camera, how many jumps before jumping a wing suit, etc.? Or is everything "wide open" unless the owner specifically chooses to ban something? Just trying to understand "how the system works." LODI has it's own BSR = Bills Set of Rules. Better not break 'em, cuz you will be told to fuck off so fast your head will spin. It's a nice place, as long as you follow the rules, which as of last time I was there were "no hooks below 500ft". Also the one time I had a cutaway there and wanted to land off on the service road of the field once I spotted the canopy, Bill told me (very firmly) to NOT land off the airport. so I didn't - and that was the end of it.

Which rig to buy? Infinity X Icon X Javelin?
likestojump replied to passaroc's topic in Gear and Rigging
As much as I hate political correctness, but manufacturer reps like yourself should refrain from posting in threads such as this one. Feel free to disagree :) -
label attached is from a 2month old canopy (Velo 84). I am quite certain that the label is a generic one
-
surely you mean a Class 7 :)
