  1. I have had a W8 with a Katana150 in it. Firm fit, but works. My guess is that the Silhouette170 will be very firm, but not impossible. Definitely not a combo I would want to have for a long time, but should be acceptable for a short transition period.
  2. wow :( in case the harness re-size doesn't work, another thing to look into aside the ROL is a ripcord setup. good luck !
  3. Have you considered a left handed BOC ! Seems like a better solution
  4. I had a 2005 Icon I4 with a 2002 PDR160 in it. It worked, but was a tight fit.
  5. Are you 4'10" or 6'3" ? how much do you weigh ? do you want to jump an old POS Raven or nice modern gear ? Do you want a square or a round ? do you plan to land on shore or in the water ? What kind of experience do you have ? More data given = higher possibility of an answer
  6. Can someone point to the incident that triggered the investigation ? tnx
  7. I have an RS1 and a RSK1. Currently both with optimum126s and AADs. Have had PDR113 and a Tempo120 in them.
  8. I agree, considering it has no history record.
  9. how many people were killed by Cypres ? big difference between a device killing you vs failing to save you
  10. Adi Luca is NOT a scammer, but a Romanian skydiver. his profile here is http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?username=adisky and I can vouch for him so much for ASSumptions :(
  11. over the Masai Mara game reserve in Kenya. Snuck a rig onto a balloon flight, and talked the pilot into letting me bail.
  12. in my experience a 170 Silhouette packs in between a full ZP 9 cell 150 and 170. Smaller than a 170, but bigger than a 150. PD seems to agree http://www.performancedesigns.com/packingchart.asp
  13. Not trying to sound like a jerk here but what do you really expect to get for $1500? A semi-decent rig, just like I said :) Have you seen the student gear that many DZs have ? Many are still using Vector IIs with velcro riser covers, older reserves (Ravens, Rascals, Fury's, etc) and full F111 mains or well used Mantas. I assure you, that for $1500 you can get a better rig. Say a Talon2 or and older Javelin with a Raven reserve and an older Sabre or if you are light enough and are not giving into the propaganda you can get a very lightly used F111 main for peanuts, just make sure to load it lightly. Hell, even odler Vector3's are possible, they came out in '96, and are quite nice. Of course if you want to be the cool kid on the block, you will spend an unsurmountable amount of time looking for that Mirage G4 with a PDR and a Sabre2 with low jumps for $2K :(
  14. I have a budget of ~$300 a month for hobbies (skydiving). If I want an AAD then I probably need to send ~$2000 which is a fair number of months of jumping or doing less jumps. Like with many activities/hobbies in life you have recurring costs and initial investments. Wanna have a car ? It will cost you insurance, gas, maintenance, but it before all that you need to BUY the said car :) Wanna start rock climbing ? You better spend some dough on gear, otherwise you will just be hiking :( again, I am not trying to sound like a dick here, but it kills me to see people who are way past their A-license pay an exuberant amount of money for rentals, instead of scraping a somehwat not bank breaking 1.5-2K and getting gear they can get 3x more jumps with for the same amount of money. as usual, good luck !
  15. I hate to sound like a naysayer, but : if you cannot afford a semi-decent rig, you probably cannot afford to skydive. By semi-decent I meant give or take $1500 USD.
  16. nbblood nailed it. These scammers are never in the USA. Predominantly UK and African countries have been the epicenters of their activity. Contacting local law enforcement will just result in your and theirs wasted time. Talking to the scammers will result in wasted time as well. (unless of course you want to have a bunch of fake checks made out to funny fake names). Talking to them, and figuring way to fuck 'em is like feeding the trolls. These people are large conglomerates who answer large bulks of email. That's why they always use generic terms as "sir" instead of your name, or "item" instead of the actual item name. This isn't new, don't piss against the wind :)
  17. Pre-authorize the credit card for the cost of the canopy (with renters permission). Once the canopy is returned, charge the rental fee. If the canopy is not returned, convert the authorization into a charge. Fairly SOP, think of what they do at hotels. re : http://www.3rdpartyprocessors.com/creditcardpreauthorization.shtml
  18. AADs are required for students by USPA. There's really no way around this, a safety device that would have likely saved this jumper was defeated by the negligence of the rigger/owner of the dropzone. You can pretty much take the waiver the student signed, and light it on fire. FAA = federal regulatory agency. Thus regulatory law. USPA = an interest group, no legal jurisdiction If anything your argument brings into light a possibility of shared liability between the deceased and whichever other externality may not been responsible.
  19. airbags are federally mandated. AADs are not.
  20. I have put a well used Spectre150 and a Silhouette150 into a TJNK, so I suppose a hybrd or a used 7 cell should work. A nice new 150 ZP 9 cell will probably make you quit skydiving :(
  21. February 4th, 2011 you contact me via email regarding a jumpsuit I have for sale for, and offer to have me sell the rig for you, while sending you the jumpsuit to you as partial payment. I am attaching the screen shot where you and I discuss it, and you are very clear on the fact that you won't get paid until I sell the gear, yet will be getting the jumpsuit sent to you right away. We talk by phone and email. February 11th, 2011 Rig arrives and is inspected. It is missing parts which makes it unsuitable for sale. I request that you send me the missing parts. You explain that due to it will take some time to get the parts over to me. March 17th, 2011 I receive some of the missing parts, but not all. I advise you that I will have to rebuild/make some of the stuff that's still missing. June 5th, 2011 I finally get the rig in sellable condition and advertise it for sale June 18th, 2011 you make this post on dz.com and as of this day (June 19, 2011) the rig is still unsold and in my posession and advertised on dz.com What's weird is that you have my phone number, as we have chatted a number of times in the past, where you called me regarding various matters and not only related to things I had for sale. You also have my email address, you have my username and thus have access to PMs. Instead you choose to attack me in public and post an improper timeline and incomplete info. Call me, my number, as jumpsalot-2 mentioned is in my ads, and is 304-699-1699 Forcing me to defend myself on a public forum for a wrong doing that I never did is plain silly :) Blue skies ! PS If anyone really needs/wants me to expand on teh issue if the original poster of the thread, I am willing to do so via PMs.
  22. IIRC (and don't hold me to this, as it's second hand info) SOME reserves came with a pilot chute attachment point so you could jump it as a main once or twice and still be packed as a reserve. I could be way off here, but that's what the riggers I worked with for my ticket told me... and well... take it for what it's worth. you are referring to the Raven reserves made by Precision. In which case the OP should be asking Precision on their stance on his reserve.
  23. can you please let us know how you measure that 700ft ?
  24. Did the Argus kill her or fail to save her ? just sayin'...
