  1. Calvin, You have just been dealing with a lot of shit lately. I wish there was something we could all do to get you beyond this valley that you have found. It must be hard to deal with... I wish you and yours the best and if there is ever anything I can do please feel free to ask. My heart goes out to you. Tony

    Happy Birthday

That looks like one Big A** pilot chute...
  3. I don't really have a problem with an access fee for objects. I pay to take my boat to the lake, park at the airport, hunt, or fish, etc. If the money is used correctly it could improve the current situation. Are we costing the city money? I guarantee the city doesn't think so or they wouldn't encourage us to come back. I could see where blocking one lane of the bridge for a day would be a major inconvenience, but this doesn't happen all the time. It's actually very, very rare. I was present Memorial Day weekend and the larger orange construction barrels were much more of a traffic issue than the jumpers and we had the helicopter there four times and the ambulance there probably at least six. Normal jumping, even on high turnout weekends doesn't affect the traffic on the bridge. People looking off the bridge to view the canyon has as much impact. There are additional costs to the city when we have a large turnout like Memorial Day but it is generally offset by the additional tax revenue. I think that when communities; whether it be cities, corporations, families, or individuals reach a point of needing additional revenue they start looking at all possibilities. A bunch of people coming to your town to jump off your bridge would seem like a ready source of income in almost anyone’s analysis. But what do we care. We are a bunch of out-of-control hellions that do what we want when we want and no one is going to tell us any different…Right? I think we should all get together a buy a cliff somewhere, erect a tower with a bridge to our multi-story living quarters/bar and tell everyone else to just piss off! Or we could just pay the price of participation and be happy…
  4. How about the chapter on "How to hang from a thread and not whine like a baby." You've got to include that!

    Best RIG??

Weren't you the one who didn't want to start the debate??? However, in skydiving and BASE and just about anything else that's leading edge, I must agree!

I'll take you off a really nice 70-80 footer. Nobody's ever jumped it, but I'm sure you'll probably make out OK...
  8. Sorry to hear Andre. Thanks for the info. Tony
  9. Yuri's just a puss (no personal attack just stating facts Tom, ask him) I took my Flick terminal (twice), small mesh slider and a D-bag, with my camera on no worse for wear. The openings were abrupt but the camera didn't bother me.

I know a Nigerian king... Any email you receive referencing this person is a hoax...He already deposited all his money in my account. Move along...nothing to see here.
  11. Left elbow/severed ulnar nerve (Fighting) Left ankle (Motorcycle) Left collar bone (Motorcycle) Right wrist (Cliff jumping - not BASE)
  12. I also jump the HC1. I haven't noticed any skipping, but I do get pauses occasionally due to opening shock or any sharp impact. I just set the "Steadyshot" to OFF to see if the problem goes away, but haven't jumped this setting yet. As for weight(661g) it weighs less than the trv30(680g). The image quality is fantastic. Look at Yuri's cliff strike video and notice the color in the rocks, and that's a reduced quality image. I did some testing the last couple of days with a 3CCD Panasonic and the HC1 was far superior in every aspect even when comparing DV to DV. At $1100 to $1300 though you better like it. Tony
  13. Hey Fabien, Sorry to hear you got hurt, but good to hear your alright. Hopefully get to jump with you next time you're around the US. Tony

Man are you bored! Go pack or something.
  16. Right in line with my discussion here: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2289455;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread
  17. I think it would be more useful to have a thread devoted to the article with a link attached to the article so that the article could be discussed in more detail. Most of the info in the articles have been discussed elsewhere on this forum, but the article brings up additional meaningful conversations. I can start a thread about any topic I choose, but there is no way to relate directly to the article, there is no way to ensure people reading the article have direct access to the discussion, and there is no way to enable the author to easily view and answer questions about their article. For instance, I could post threads in s&t, ff, formation skydiving, general, ... regarding this article and there would be no way to ensure the author or others interested in the topic wouldn't miss the discussion. If we had a forum called say "Articles" or "Article Feedback" or whatever this would create a placeholder for relevant information. I could always contact the author via PM and have the discussion with the person directly, but that wouldn't be very useful to the community and would hinder other's useful input.
  18. What "related existing forum" ? Let's stick with my for instance...Where would you post a comment or question relating directly to the calculations in the Exit Seperation article?
  19. I think creating a Forum for posted articles where each article would have it's own thread would be a useful tool for people to discuss and learn more about the particular topic. There are several comments I have regarding the Exit Seperation article, for instance.
  20. Not bad mouthing people who jumped while EMT's were in the landing area, but... My concern with jumping while paramedics are attending to another person is the delay in getting someone to you. Normally not a problem, but you look at what happened on Monday and you can see the concern. Jumper down helicopter flown in and ambulance brought in with Sherrif or Deputy I was third off when the helicopter leaves empty, land, look up a guy flare's ten feet off the ground breaks leg and arm. I call 911 Ambulance is still enroute to hospital so they have to send another. We call of the helicopter due to extent of injuries. EMT arrives and sherrif and I start walking to his boat and I look up to see Shannon's jump. I yell at the Sheriff to call the helicopter and one of the EMT's assisting with the broken bones hustle's to the river. Shannon is rushed to the ambulance in hope... I go back to the broken boned jumper and jumpers are standing around helping the EMT's "Hand me this colored thing out of that colored bag" and so forth... The Sheriff finally called the bridge and asked that jumping be stopped due to being under staffed. If Jason would have been the one who just hit the water who knows how it would have turned out, hopefully as good as it did, but there were three EMT's assisting with Jason and Jason was there only concern. Do I think you endangered yourself or others? NO! Because chances are you weren't going to get hurt and need any assistance. (I jokingly asked you if you swooped the helicopter at Woody's that night.) But it could have made a difficult situation even more difficult and we clearly made the Emergency staff in Twin work for every penny we donated to them that weekend.
  21. Good to hear from you... Have you checked on your pin rig fund? Don't let Nick go and blow all that money we're sending him. I'll call you later. I was writing the whole incident down yesterday and can't believe your still with us after what happened. Makes you appreciate how close the edge is even off a seemingly simple bridge. Tony

    huge porject

Here you go Nick...Use it as you may. Gender: M Age: 42 Location: SW US Family Status (married, single, children, etc): Married 2 kids 4.5 yrs and 2 months (My wife thinks BASE jumping is selfish) Did you skydive before you started to BASE jump? yes How did you first get started in BASE jumping? Took a couple of guys to a big A and even though no one jumped it was a fun excursion. Then a canuck gave me shit at Moab about not having tried it while I was tripping on some good shrooms and I was hooked. Did you attend a jump school? As opposed to what? How long have you been jumping? 9 years Did you plan on BASE jumping from the start? Not no, HELL NO! How much does it cost to BASE jump (jump, gear etc)? Infinity or all the money I can muster which ever is larger. What do you think of when you see others jump? I think Oh no, good exit, nice throw, that's gonna leave a mark, on heading, hook it baby, nice, the winds aren't that bad, Good Jump! What do you think before you jump? About everything I might have forgotten, these guys are probably getting impatient, F!@# them this is my jump if they want to go then go, You know this could be it, It'll all work out, 3-2-1-Cya, Ouch that's gonna leave a mark, hook it baby, the winds aren't that bad, Good Jump! What do you think while falling? I wonder if this is what it feels like when it doesn't open, WHACK, Nope gues not. What do you think once you land? See above Have you ever gotten hurt BASE jumping? Not yet and I hope to keep it that way. Do you illegally jump? BASE jumping is only illegal in NP and I haven't jumped in a NP so the answer is NO. I don't think I've ever been in a NP... Why do you BASE jump? It's exciting to be near the edge, but it's probably due to some chemical deficiency in my brain if you read all the studies on this type of behavior.
