Great pics. I especially like the banner in the center of the bridge pic!!!

Very good point, I feel the Flik has a lot of forward/horizontal speed compared to other canopies I've tried, but I haven't tried very many. I've also jumped that cliff with a Fox 285 with similar results. However, I never really thought to compare the two in time and distance. Something for me to review...

That's pretty funny when you think about it. My son is 4 and I have him jumping off stuff all the time. He'll get up, do his count down (3, 2, 1, Cya), and jump into my arms. He was standing on the bridge yelling "Good one, Daddy!" to me the whole time I was under canopy when I did my FJC. So I was thinking the other day, it would be very easy for him to visualize BASE jumping and the opening of the canopy as safe as jumping into my arms. Our kids have a completely different sense of possibility than even we did at their age. He never stops surprising me!

Hey Andre... I've SL'd a cliff here in SoCal that is 170'. I got about 8-10 seconds of canopy time (I'm jumping a Flik293, vTec at 225lbs exit weight). I would say I got about 50-60ft horizontal seperation when my feet touched the ground. I could review the video and give you more precise times and distances, but you also have an extra 20 ft of starting altitude. So at 50-60 feet seperation you should still have 20 feet vertical. Your wingloading is probably similar to mine.

Not me...but a helicopter would be nice!

In Bill's recent wall strike the canopy left the container 90 left. There was a white logo on the front RHS of the canopy that can clearly be seen all the way to opening. His body position looked good and stable. Any ideas on that, Tom? This never really was discussed in the original thread.

I spoke with Clint this weekend and the plane is gone for the winter...

I've flown the Fox285 and the Flik293 both with vTec and Multi. I was considering a 322, but ended up with the 293 because I felt it would give me somewhere to go up or down in size after I learn a little more. I weighed 210, but am now down to 190. I've gone SL from 170', PCA from the potato, handheld from 1 to 3 sec delays, and stowed from 2 sec delay. I've also taken it out of a plane, a ballon, and a helicopter using a sail and a small mesh slider. It is a great canopy, I wouldn't change a thing. I've never done a slider up BASE jump with it. It's big to pack, but I flat pack for BASE anyway. I did pro-pack it for skydiving and it's touching the floor when it's hanging over my shoulder. My openings have been on-heading everytime so far. The inflation is fast, probably due to the vents. I've got quite a bit of video and some photos of openings if you are interested.

TowerToppers the man. He climbs A's all day. When we were scouting recently he explained how to tell the height, what the different types of towers were, what the regs on striping and lights were... Very good guy to have on an load.

Congrats on a jump gone well...Feels great!!! The pendulator that Tom was talking about is designed to eliminate some of those specific issues regarding fear and it altering your performance. Basically he puts you up in a tree about 10-15 feet off the ground with a harness on attached through a pully to someone on the ground. You can then practice your exits repeatedly from a safer altitude. There's still the fear of jumping and knowing whether the person is going to catch you, without nearly as much real danger, unless of course it's rigged so your direct line of flight includes an aluminum picnic table bolted to the ground. That was a close one!!! But it really gets you over the learning curve of what's going to happen when you leave the exit point. I'm sure something could be rigged quite easily, similar to what gymnasts use to enable the same type of practice regarding aerials.

Sounds like he's looking at his feet/ the object. This could easily induce a head-down exit.

I'm always alone! Most times, although that's very few still, I'm the last one off. I have no issue with it. I have had people tell me they don't want to leave me up here alone, but I think that's one of the reasons I will hang out on the edge for a while before I jump, so I can create my aloneness. I get clear in my head what I'm doing, why I'm doing it, and whether things will be OK no matter which way it turns out. I make sure I'm not doing it for the people watching and/or waiting. With a price this high it has got to be for me and I'll take as much time as I want to figure these things out. If your in a hurry and must go then go. As I said earlier, I have no issue with it.

Do you have a live-in packer or what???

Not wanting to be too critical here, but this is the type of statement that would have someone waiting on a backup device. This should always be stated "is meant to" or "is meant to in the event you are unable to or don't" I agree with others above that she failed to complete her EP's and I'm pretty sure pulling the reserve ripcord was covered in her training!

What about proofing and such? If we're reading someone else's article and find a typo or grammatical error is there an issue with logging in as an editor and fixing it or have you found specific people who are willing to do that on an ongoing basis?

Happy birthday Brandy, when you two coming out west?

They both look the same to me...

Pretty good footage. I saw Teddy getting ready to jump my new rig. I saw his opening, but didn't get to see him or JW land it in the water. My poor mistreated rig. Was that Alana I saw in the tie-dye shirt? She looked pretty freaked out!!! Russel and Collins jump looked really sweet. Now I'm mad I didn't go!!!

I relate to it as understanding why something is done a certain way so then you can actively decide how you are going to do it. Most things I've found, in skydiving/BASE jumping specifically, are done to eliminate/reduce failure. Once you understand the why's you stop second guessing yourself on whether you did it right.

I spent a little while reviewing the footage and it appears your canopy came out of the container 90 degrees to your left. There is a couple of frames where the change in brightness as you go into the shadow of the wall makes it hard to see what is happening, but if you look at the video you will see the white label on the right side of your canopy is facing straight away from the wall. The direction of the canopy is completely stable all the way to inflation, no turning. You can see the nose catching air and the tail spreading open. Very clean opening, just 90 deg left of your intended direction. Some one asked whether you flat packed or not. I don't know what difference that would make. I would say you definately used a handful out of your luck bucket though. Great jumping with you. Tony

I've got the video and can convert it if you'd like it posted. Just let me know Bill.

I'm talking the Wednesday before the Boogie, Steve. That would be Sept. 28th...

I'm heading up Wednesday evening from Phoenix. Got room for a few. Anybody else? I don't know about my return trip. I may go to Tahoe for a day or so or I may go to Perris. Probably won't go directly back to Phoenix. But that could change based on everyone else's plans...

Be there or be square!!! I'm counting down the days... How about a raid on RCL???
