Currently I only have one break setting. I've done one slider-up BASE jump from 1200' off a 1800' A. I've also done several jumps from a plane/balloon with it. I haven't noticed any adverse behavior. New Years Eve I did a cross-country H&P and found I could pull my toggles a good 12 inches past the current break setting without inducing a stall. Which tells me I could greatly slow my opening forward speed by adding another brake setting. The problem I have is making a change like this without any real place to test it. What would be a good way to test this and how deep should I start? I've had no problems so far, but I haven't opened up facing a wall either.

Gatty and maggot are already sleeping together, I have the inside scoop. It's been a pretty short relationship and he's already out lookin' for some strange. As for you Nick, I think it's that accent. Everyone was talking about it at Rantoul... Are you sure your not walking near the line??? You did comment on Gatty's avatar!
-
You mean P Kolorado don't you? I don't know no P Konrad...
-
Did you sleep with him? Cause he keeps tellin' me about some chick and how hot she is for him. It would make much more sense if it was you instead of some hot chick.... I guess that 1st jump went OK, your able to post. I think anybody can base jump. Even wall strikes seem to be becoming less hazardous. Look have many people have lived through them recently...

Hey, I'm unprepared and I've been snowboarding once... WHERE IS THAT EXIT POINT?
-
I agree with the first statement, but feel the second is just more of what you are objecting to in the first. Maggot was not being a dumbass. I'm sure he thought there was no unnecessary risk in what he was attempting. While there certainly were issues he did not take into account, I think he was just being naive and hoping for the best. Not the best choice, but clearly not the actions of a dumbass. The primary thing Maggot did not take into account is the effect his hangup had on the boogie, but he didn't intend to have a hangup in the first place. I think Maggot is a very lucky person to still be around for the kickin', and I think it brought some reality of the sport to people's eyes without serious injury. If it had not happened to Maggot, it probably would have happened to someone else and the consequences could have been far worse. Enough said...

My turn...my turn... You're still talking about two different bridges. The jist of the feedback you are receiving is "Do some research on your own" Don't come here asking questions that have been answered many times before and can easily be found with a little work. Something I learned during my FJC is BASE jumping is not just dangerous, it's hard work. You don't just go to an exit point, throw on a rig, and make a jump. Most objects require a pretty good climb/hike not to mention the amount of work done by others to gain access in the first place. And then there is the personal preperation like packing and such. A one hour pack job for a 2 second freefall... If you're not willing to put in the effort to do a little research you probably aren't going to like BASE very much or be given much info on your posts here...

Mine says exactly the same...

Hey the other thread disappeared. That was some of the best reading I've seen on here in a while.

Did you sabotage Tom's computer or what?

A rather interesting discussion here...we're writing 24's paper for him. I'm really about people watching out for themselves. I don't feel the need to have the government protect me from things I might do that really only directly effects me. I understand there are all kinds of indirects effects of drinking, smoking, riding without a helmet, driving without a seat belt, skydiving, BASE jumping, etc, etc. But most things I do effect me much more than the rest of the world combined. If I choose to make poor decisions and take up BASE jumping without first finding out what I might need to know, then so be it. My death may be bad for the community, but I think being dead is a very good deterrent to that course of action. If not then I'm bound to kill myself somehow anyway. Hand out the Darwin award. If it's legal and people want to try it it's going to be a very small percentage of the world population. Skydiving's legal and the only friends I know that skydive I met skydiving. It's a very small community and BASE is just a fraction of that. I'm not saying I'm against education. I think anyone interested in attempting almost anything should seek the proper training. I don't feel like we should be holding base as if it's something we own. I wouldn't even suggest anyone try it, but if someone asks I'll point them in the direction I think would be best. Legal, hell yes I like legal! I would love the opportunity to walk up to a building, ride the elevator to the top, and jump off without the added danger of getting busted. Take the NRG bridge for instance. What's the likelihood of someone being in the landing area on any given day, much less me hitting them? How about the cliffs around Lake Powell or the Grand Canyon? It really makes no sense!!!

Considering switching from Sprint PCS to Cingular Wireless
tfelber replied to Viking's topic in The Bonfire
I've been using AT&T (now Cingular) for more than 8 years. I've had my issues with them and I still use them. I travel all over the place including Europe and yes there are places I get poor or no reception, but I'd be willing to bet others have the same problem with their carriers... There have been times I was the only one with a signal and times where I was the only one without a signal. I use their nationwide plan so there are no roaming charges. All in-network calls are free. I use about 2500 anytime minutes a month and it costs me about $120. Thay have some very good signing bonuses if you ask including free minutes and phones. -
Sounds like you're just becoming quite the SHARK, Shrek! You may have to change your name if this keeps up...Or everyone will be afraid of you... Well, everyone except the people who put you out or beat you and that's only what a few hundred of us right?
-
Anyone no how late you can get in. I get back into PHX at 6:55pm... What kind of side bet Skinny? I want my $20 back!
-
Hell, who cares about the yacht. That thing has a Waverunner with a 429 cobrajet in it!!!
-
Nice...makes you wanna go make a jump!
-
I'd rather be lucky than good and I'm good...This time I might just take you out for free!
-
Hey...how'd you do that? And thanks!
-
Who's girlbase?
-
Hey Jay, I was just reviewing the thread from the last time I played and you offered a $5 bounty on Shrek and I did take him out as promised...pay up buster! Shrek mentioned something about transferring money, how is that done?
-
If you'll pre-deposit those funds I'll knock $5 off...
-
I was willing to bet I'd put you out, personally! You just want to bet you'll out last me??? Is this a penis thing? BTW, I'll take that bet!
-
I'm in...what's the side bet? Who can put Shrek out again. Doesn't someone owe me some money for that?
-
I'd say NO. Nor do they need to in their minds. Their goal is to attract people to the extreme not keep or service those that are already there. As Hajo said it is for what makes the news. Did the jumps into the Superbowl get this much media attention? A lot more people actually witnessed those jumps. Now if those jumps were orchestrated as bandit jumps, think of the media coverage... It seems the people getting paid to make the jumps really don't care. They got to jump and got paid to do it. Maybe all the publicity isn't bad for BASE. Maybe the more people see it the more it becomes accepted. Publicity has helped many extreme sports in the recent past. I realize there are people into BASE because they are drawn to the secrecy and stealth aspects, but others are drawn to the publicity. I enjoy both aspects. I get really jazzed sneaking a jump. I also enjoy taking my wife and son and friends and ... out to watch. There are several times I drive by something jumpable and I just want to go up to the people in charge of access and say "Do you mind if I jump off your object?" It would be nice if that would work occasionally.

That is a huge plus... I've always been able to call them whenever I had a question. How many other courses offer that?
