  1. Aren't you missing PD's Excalibur out of this story? "The ground does not care who you are. It will always be tougher than the human behind the controls." ~ CanuckInUSA
  2. IMHO, I owe every Vet the benefit of the doubt they are a good person. If they prove otherwise, knowing they are a vet makes me think less of them because they are reflecting poorly on other vets. I am not a Vet, and I have respect for people who follow through on commitments. I agree with every word you wrote. Perhaps my original statement was too strong. 3. Respect is to be earned, not expected. This vet was out of line and playing the "look what a hero I am" card is just BS. Good job - you worked for the government. It doesn't earn you a lifetime of being owed shit by anyone any more than any other profession does. "The ground does not care who you are. It will always be tougher than the human behind the controls." ~ CanuckInUSA
  4. I use a Viso. It works for me. Don't use a Suunto. "The ground does not care who you are. It will always be tougher than the human behind the controls." ~ CanuckInUSA
  5. Freedom of religion is an internatinally recognized human right. Like I said it contains the right to belong to a religious group, and it contains the right to NOT belong to a religious group. This person expressed his human right for the latter. IMO it is very much a protected class. Does it include the right to intentionally offend another religious group as in this case? 6. Yes, and what Im saying is that the business decision was discriminating. Discriminating against someone who intentionally refused to do something about the fact that he was offending other customers even when offered a solution? Good discrimination, I say. 7. After reading thru this thread I was convinced we were dealing with a Troll. I will take your word that this is a real person? I just recieved a private message from him asking what DGIT is. Ledballoon, this attachment is for you... Yay!! One (at least) of those squares was for me!! "The ground does not care who you are. It will always be tougher than the human behind the controls." ~ CanuckInUSA
  8. Yes. This.. "The ground does not care who you are. It will always be tougher than the human behind the controls." ~ CanuckInUSA
  9. And that, to devout Muslims, is offensive. Many muslims believe that Allah has decreed that Muslims declare war on infidels. You have to step outside your cosy Western perspective to understand that others may be offended by things that do not offend you. I personally am not offended by the words "nigger" or "cunt" but I fully accept that many people are and I temper my use of them to allow for this, regardless of my right to freedom of speech. 10. Like it or not, these whuffos pay for many DZs to stay open so the rest of us can play. The real solution in my mind is that people start minding their own business and stop looking for things to be offended about - but I realize THAT isn't the American way. "The ground does not care who you are. It will always be tougher than the human behind the controls." ~ CanuckInUSA
  11. I find your tattoo offensive. You don't have enough years in sport to be wearing that. If I were a DZO and I asked you to cover it up at my dz, would you feel the same as you do about "this guy"? Sure - if it really offended you, and I wanted to continue to jump at your DZ I wouldn't see that I had any choice. "The ground does not care who you are. It will always be tougher than the human behind the controls." ~ CanuckInUSA
  12. That is the reason it is done - because many people think it looks cool. I have not noticed my hardware getting hot, but I do know that if you leave a spoon out in the sun it can get too hot to hold so I don't know that there is much more risk with black hardware than regular SS. You don't like it - don't buy it! I do, so I did. "The ground does not care who you are. It will always be tougher than the human behind the controls." ~ CanuckInUSA
  13. The idea is to start with a canopy plan and then modify from that rather than the plan being to just make it up on the fly and see what happens. Yes, of course the plan will have to be adapted 9 times out of 10 when you're in the air but the point is to start from a well thought out plan that you can assess and modify for the next jump. Your scenarios about what if I am too high or too low are perfectly manageable by extending/shortening the legs of the pattern or flying in more or less brakes. There is always a need for using judgement, but being predictable is less likely to get you in trouble than making things up on the fly as well making you a more controlled, accurate canopy pilot. It would be good for you to sit in on a basic canopy course where this is all explained. "The ground does not care who you are. It will always be tougher than the human behind the controls." ~ CanuckInUSA
  14. After my third dislocation I had surgery. After that I took 6 months of intense physical therapy to get back to strength. I still do lots of rotator cuff exercises in the gym. The resistance bands were good before I was up to full strength. You can't rush it. It may well happen again so plan your modified EPs, use an AAD and an RSL and try to learn to fly mantis. 15. I sympathize with the DZ. This guy has a tattoo that is offensive to other jumpers, and the DZ is trying to run a business. "Cover it up" is a reasonable request and the right solution. That's where this guy threw his teddy out of the pram and started causing friction (quite apart from the fact that the tattoo is quite clearly a "fuck you" to Muslims). It seems like a case of DYKWIA and he wants special attention. "The ground does not care who you are. It will always be tougher than the human behind the controls." ~ CanuckInUSA
  16. I like the 300/600/900ft reference altitudes...I'm going to try that next jump. When you're trying it out, note the amount of time you get in full flight from the last turn to flare. You want at least 10 seconds - if you don't get that, you should take your altitudes up. "The ground does not care who you are. It will always be tougher than the human behind the controls." ~ CanuckInUSA
  17. Black . . . . Hardware! I hadn't seen the black hardware before, but I'm not sure I'm sold on it. Does it have any benefits other than looking cool? If anything, I'd say having your metal the same colour as your harness/ risers would make it less likely that you or another person would spot a routing problem. True, it's probably marginal, but I can think of other (more extreme) examples where safety has been compromised for the sake of aesthetics. I have it on mine and I don't think it blends in as much as you might think. I like the look and I am confident of my ability to set up my rig correctly so for me it's an aesthetic choice with no safety worries. YMMV. "The ground does not care who you are. It will always be tougher than the human behind the controls." ~ CanuckInUSA
  18. That makes me wonder if they are really a good choice for any canopy Well they are a good choice on a competition CP wing. The lines make up a significant proportion of the total parasitic drag in the system. The key is not to abuse (overuse) them. "The ground does not care who you are. It will always be tougher than the human behind the controls." ~ CanuckInUSA
  19. Black . . . . Hardware! "The ground does not care who you are. It will always be tougher than the human behind the controls." ~ CanuckInUSA
  20. You're coming out of your turn, canopy on heading, everything is Zen ... and then SCREEEEEECH!!!! Exactly - made me jump the first couple of times, but now I take it as a sign of building some good power! "The ground does not care who you are. It will always be tougher than the human behind the controls." ~ CanuckInUSA
  21. I always interpreted it as "the pin is out of the closing loop". "The ground does not care who you are. It will always be tougher than the human behind the controls." ~ CanuckInUSA
  22. That is an awesome post. It pretty much takes any argument out of it. "The ground does not care who you are. It will always be tougher than the human behind the controls." ~ CanuckInUSA
  23. +1 for Infinity. I am on my second one. Very comfortable, well-built and thought-out. Plus the company is very responsive. Speak to Flora if you have any questions - she has helped me out with a couple of things and always gets back to me in a timely manner. "The ground does not care who you are. It will always be tougher than the human behind the controls." ~ CanuckInUSA
  24. Pull around 4.5k Flat-line set to 2k - I have not heard it in freefall yet, but I do hear it at 100-200' at the end of a 270! "The ground does not care who you are. It will always be tougher than the human behind the controls." ~ CanuckInUSA
  25. +1 I've already seen a nasty accident this year from thin lines breaking in a turn in a comp (I don't know for sure if they were used for work jumps too). Comp lines are not a good choice on a work canopy. "The ground does not care who you are. It will always be tougher than the human behind the controls." ~ CanuckInUSA
